Urban Soldier Young Master

Chapter 35: We've Become White-Collar Workers Too

Although both Chu Ge and Qin Ruojing knew clearly that this so-called interview was just a formality, since there was a staff member responsible for taking interview notes in the room, Qin Ruojing didn't deliberately go easy on him and even asked a few tricky questions.

If it were an ordinary person, they might have been dumbfounded by Qin Ruojing's tricky questions, but Chu Ge's answers were flawless. Even if Tong Yaqi were still here, she probably wouldn't find any faults.

After a few minutes, Chu Ge completed the interview smoothly and officially became a member of Tianjiao Film and Television.

Meanwhile, inside Tong Yaqi's office.

Tong Yaqi was slumped in her seat, her mind filled with the scene of Chu Ge walking into the interview room. The usually comfortable leather chair now felt like a bed of thorns. After sitting for less than two minutes, she propped herself up on shaky legs and started pacing around her office, filled with inner turmoil.

"How could this happen? How can this be? He shouldn't have passed the chairman's interview, right? Did he secretly take pictures of me last night while I was asleep?"

Tong Yaqi never realized time could pass so slowly, that waiting could be so agonizing.

She even had the urge several times to call Qin Ruojing and ask if she had kept Chu Ge, even though she knew perfectly well she had no legitimate reason to do so.

She didn't know how many times she circled her office until she felt dizzy and finally slumped into her chair, rubbing her forehead with one hand and sighing with deep regret.

Last night was the first time she had such a relationship with a man other than her husband. Although she had gone all out, wanting to let herself go just once, now all she felt was indescribable fear.

Unbeknownst to Tong Yaqi, who was alone in her office troubled by gains and losses, Chu Ge had already passed the interview, completed the procedures in the HR department, and stepped into the Operation Management Department office as an administrative assistant.

The Operation Management Department was on the far right of the ninth floor, occupying two offices. The inner one was the minister's office, and the outer one was where Chu Ge and other administrative assistants worked.

Arriving at his future workplace, Chu Ge felt good. From now on, he would be an urban white-collar worker.

He casually surveyed his surroundings. It wasn't much different from most offices. Against the entrance wall was a storage cabinet divided into many compartments. Further in were cubicles separated by wooden partitions, each employee having an independent desk equipped with an LCD computer, file racks, and other office supplies. If someone didn't stand up, they wouldn't see each other.

After a quick glance, Chu Ge walked into the minister's office inside.

The minister of the Operation Management Department was Ji Songtao, a man in his early thirties with a medium build and a slight beer belly. He always seemed to wear a smiling, albeit somewhat slick and insincere, expression.

Looking over the form Chu Ge filled out, Ji Songtao said some words like "Welcome to the Operation Management Department, work hard," then led Chu Ge into the employees' office.

Ji Songtao clapped his hands twice, and once everyone in the room stood up and looked over, he cleared his throat, "Let me introduce you, this is Chu Ge, and he will be your new colleague from now on."

After Ji Songtao finished speaking, a fairly warm round of applause sounded in the office, and several people in their twenties cast curious glances at him.

Ji Songtao turned his gaze to Chu Ge, "Chu Ge, would you like to say a few words?"

Chu Ge smiled, nodded humbly, and faced his future colleagues, "Hello, everyone. I'm new here and hope you can take care of me. If there's anything I don't do well, please point it out. And if there's anything I can help with, please don't hesitate."

After another round of applause, Ji Songtao's gaze swept across several young people and eventually settled on a girl with long, shoulder-length hair who looked very delicate, "Mo Xiaoran, you will be responsible for showing Chu Ge around and explaining the duties of an administrative assistant."

The girl named Mo Xiaoran was taken aback, instinctively pointing at her nose, "Ah? Me?"

Ji Songtao smiled, "Why? Is there a problem?"

Mo Xiaoran blushed and said somewhat timidly, "I haven't been here long myself, I... I'm afraid I won't explain well."

Ji Songtao laughed heartily, teasingly saying, "Xiaoran, don't be modest. Among the administrative assistants, you're the most patient and good-tempered one. If you can't explain it well, then no one else will be able to."

Even though Ji Songtao's words indirectly criticized the others, no one showed any displeasure and laughed along.

Amidst a burst of friendly laughter, Mo Xiaoran's face turned even redder, but she still nodded, "Thank you for your trust, Minister Ji. I will definitely explain things well to Chu Ge and not let you down."

Ji Songtao chuckled and hummed in agreement, patted Chu Ge on the shoulder, and assigned him to the desk right next to Mo Xiaoran before returning to his office.

Once Ji Songtao left, Mo Xiaoran, still blushing a little, walked towards Chu Ge and extended her hand, "Hi Chu Ge, I'm Mo Xiaoran."

With a smile on his face, Chu Ge shook hands with Mo Xiaoran briefly, "I'll be relying on you from now on."

As their hands parted, Mo Xiaoran, blushing again, said, "We're colleagues, it's no bother at all, you're being too polite."

Seeing Mo Xiaoran's bashful demeanor, Chu Ge found it quite interesting; it had been a long time since he'd met a girl who blushed so easily.

Mo Xiaoran wasn't very tall, with a slim figure, the petite, delicate type. Her soft long hair flowed down her back, and while her features might not be exceptionally pretty individually, together they created a uniquely attractive face that became more appealing the longer you looked at it.

Even though Mo Xiaoran was wearing a standard office outfit of a white blouse and black pencil skirt, compared to the other women in the room, the same outfit gave her a distinct look that combined both the professionalism of a career woman and the graceful charm of a delicate beauty.

Overall, Mo Xiaoran made Chu Ge think of a cute little doll.

After the formalities were over, Mo Xiaoran introduced Chu Ge to the rest of the office. Including Chu Ge, there were eight people: six women and two men. At twenty-five, Chu Ge was surprisingly the oldest; the others were between twenty-one and twenty-four.

The girls treated Chu Ge nicely, each greeting him with a smile, but when Mo Xiaoran introduced him to the other man, Chu Ge noticed a somewhat sinister smile on the man's face.

This was Lu Gang, a tall guy over 1.80 meters, but as thin as a stick. He wore a pink shirt and colorful cropped pants, with a thin, shiny silver belt, making him seem even more feminine than Zhou Zhigao, whom Chu Ge had met on the plane.

Though he could sense Lu Gang's displeasure, Chu Ge paid it no mind; after all, he's not a one-size-fits-all kind of person everyone would like.

Throughout the morning, Mo Xiaoran spent most of the time explaining the role of an administrative assistant to Chu Ge.

Although Chu Ge had already learned about the duties of an administrative assistant from Qin Ruojing the day before—writing administrative documents, preparing meeting minutes, running errands, and coordinating with other departments—he still listened to Mo Xiaoran's detailed explanation with a humble attitude, without showing any impatience.

And to be honest, listening to Mo Xiaoran talk was quite enjoyable; her voice was gentle, and she was very earnest, as if she was afraid Chu Ge might not understand something. She explained each step meticulously and even provided numerous examples.

While Chu Ge was enjoying himself, someone in the office was not too happy.

Previously the only male in the office, Lu Gang used to enjoy the attention of the six girls around him, like a single green in a sea of flowers.

But with Chu Ge's arrival, his uniqueness was instantly shattered, and from the friendly attitude of the girls towards Chu Ge, Lu Gang was already feeling a strong sense of crisis by the end of the morning. Especially seeing the prettiest girl, Mo Xiaoran, paying so much attention to Chu Ge made him even more upset.

As it neared noon and lunchtime approached, Lu Gang sarcastically asked, "Ladies, what should we eat for lunch?"

A round-faced girl glanced at him jokingly and said, "Lu Gang, can you speak properly? With your big, macho name, could you stop talking so effeminately? Look at Chu Ge, that's how a man should be."

Though it was just a joke, Lu Gang found it even more annoying towards Chu Ge.

"Feifei, that's not fair! You forgot that I treated you to lunch when you first joined. Have some gratitude, won't you?"

The girl named Feifei laughed, "Come on, treating someone to spicy hotpot counts as treating them to lunch? You have no shame saying that."

Lu Gang pouted, glanced at Chu Ge, and said with implied criticism, "At least I have the intention, unlike some newcomer who doesn't realize he should make some gesture as it's almost lunchtime."

Hearing this, Feifei was about to defend Chu Ge, but Chu Ge stood up from his seat.
