"You, as police officers, is it right to lay hands on me like this?" Song Xiaodong snorted coldly.
The guy holding the baton sneered and said, "Whether it's right or not, you don't get to decide. Kid, when you're here, whether you're a dragon or a tiger, you must behave. Try to be tough with us, and you're courting death!"
"Kill him, damn it, my hand hurts like hell," the policeman sitting next to Song Xiaodong cried out in pain.
Song Xiaodong looked icily at the guy with the baton. If the other tried to make a move against him, he didn't mind letting him pay a heftier price.
The guy with the baton was unnerved by Song Xiaodong's icy gaze, feeling as though something was off, like swinging the baton might put him in danger.
"Damn, how dare you glare at me?"
To this policeman, it was an indignity; usually, he only made others afraid, but now he was showing fear, which was utterly disgraceful. So, after shouting, he swung the baton at Song Xiaodong.
He didn't dare strike Song Xiaodong's head, but aimed directly at his shoulder instead.
Song Xiaodong stood there without dodging. While he seemed motionless, he subtly shifted, dissipating the incoming force, and then with a surge of True Qi, he bounced the baton back.
The force surged, and the baton flew out of the assailant's control, hitting the policeman's forehead with even more speed.
"Bang!"
With a dull thud, the guy's head wobbled twice and he slumped onto the seat, knocked unconscious.
They were in a police van, with a driver in the front and three other policemen, one in the passenger seat, and two in the back. One was clutching his wrist, and the other had fainted, leaving Song Xiaodong, who was handcuffed, unscathed, making the scene quite eerie.
"You... you..." The guy clutching his wrist shrank away violently, hitting the car window, his face filled with terror as he looked at Song Xiaodong like he was a monster.
"Hmph!" Song Xiaodong snorted coldly, said nothing, and closed his eyes.
"What's going on?" asked the Deputy Chief from the front passenger seat, not quite understanding the situation, frowning.
"He's... he's using a spell. I hit him, and my wrist almost broke. Brother Sun hit him with a baton, and it bounced back, knocking himself out cold."
"Ah?" The Deputy Chief found this too ridiculous, just about to scold them when the van jolted, causing the unconscious one to roll to the floor, and he found himself unable to utter a word.
In the darkness, Song Xiaodong felt like a predator ready to devour, instilling unspeakable fear.
"Turn on the lights, turn on the lights!" the Deputy Chief shouted.
"The headlights are on," the driver instinctively replied.
"I meant the interior lights," the Deputy Chief snapped.
The driver quickly flicked a switch, illuminating the front interior light.
The van was rather old, and its lights were dim, barely illuminating the front, leaving the rear even more gloomy, which made the Deputy Chief feel even eerier.
With his eyes closed and saying nothing, Song Xiaodong sat there. Apart from the sound of the vehicle driving, there wasn't another sound inside the vehicle.
To Song Xiaodong, the silence was nothing, but to the others, it was eerily foreboding, as if they were transporting not a person, but a demon.
After some time, an ear-piercing ring tone broke the silence. Normally mundane, it now startled everyone inside, nearly causing the Deputy Chief to drop his phone.
"Hello, Deputy Chief Chen!" The Deputy Chief's voice trembled slightly as he answered.
"What's going on? Have you brought him back?" Chen Zhengmin asked.
"We caught him, but... this person is really strange. Two of our officers are injured."
Chen Zhengmin sounded rather excited, "Injured? He actually dared to assault the police, that's great! It adds another charge, that's fantastic. You can spin this into something significant."
"No, no... he's handcuffed, and when our officers hit him, he was fine, but one of us ended up with a hurt wrist, and another just... passed out. So I'm saying he's really strange," the Deputy Chief said, feeling another chill run down his spine.
Even when facing ruthless murderers, they weren't afraid when they had them in the police van. But now, with this bizarre situation, there was an indescribable fear.
Chen Zhengmin dismissed it, "What's so strange about it? Surely your officers accidentally hurt themselves. Don't scare yourselves; just bring him back to the station and deal with it properly."
Hearing Chen Zhengmin's explanation, the Deputy Chief thought it likely. "Okay, don't worry, leave it to me. I'll handle it properly."
"Yes, we've known each other for years. As long as it's handled well, I'll make sure to thank you properly."
