Evil Dragon Crazy Soldier King

Chapter 227: The Story of Lao Pao

Yang Fei quickly found a local farmer.

The farmer drove a tractor, taking Yang Fei and Lin Xueyi to Heiniu Hollow.

The farmer was quite simple and honest, asking for only fifty bucks as a reward.

For Lin Xueyi, however,

that amount wasn't even a tenth of the price of a lipstick.

The tractor's engine rumbled thunderously, deafeningly loud.

The cold, hard Northwest wind made half of Lin Xueyi's face numb and blue.

All her exposed cheeks and limbs were frozen stiff, numb to sensation.

The bumpy, winding mountain road made Lin Xueyi, inside the cab, as unsteady on her feet as if she were drunk.

She had to cling tightly to Yang Fei's clothes to stabilize herself.

Lin Xueyi was on the verge of collapsing. What was Yang Fei doing by bringing her here?

Dressed in light army green, Yang Fei looked unusually spirited.

He hugged Lin Xueyi's waist from behind and chuckled.

"Sister Xueyi, life shouldn't be just about glitz and glamor, it should also have this kind of crude hardship."

"You big-headed ghost!"

Lin Xueyi clung tightly to Yang Fei, feeling a small flame of anger ready to burst forth.

Comfortably at home, she could have been watching Korean dramas, eating a family bucket meal, and sitting in the warmth.

Instead, she was dragged around aimlessly by this guy.

Now, they had ended up on the Loess Plateau, over three thousand kilometers away.

What in the world was this guy up to?

However, thinking that Yang Fei had brought her along in such a time,

added a sweet flavor to Lin Xueyi's heart.

The tractor engine roared, dragging Yang Fei and Lin Xueyi along.

After more than twenty kilometers of mountain roads, it finally stopped.

The farmer, wearing a warm fur hat, rubbed his hands and jumped down from the tractor.

His simple face was full of apologies.

"I'm sorry, but this is as far as I can take you."

"The road up ahead can't be traversed by this tractor."

Yang Fei seemed to have known this already.

He handed the farmer a cigarette and gave him two hundred bucks, thanking him for his efforts.

The honest farmer tried to decline, but Yang Fei firmly placed the money in his hands.

He waved to the farmer and continued pulling Lin Xueyi up into the mountain hollow.

The ground's mountain path was rugged and uneven.

Lin Xueyi, though she had swapped her high heels for more suitable shoes, still slipped at every step, finding it extremely difficult to proceed.

Yang Fei chuckled and crouched down.

"Sister Xueyi, let me carry you so you don't accidentally twist your ankle."

Lin Xueyi looked at his broad and solid back, feeling a bit of warmth in her heart.

Yet she snorted, "What do you care, acting like a sulky gourd."

At that, Yang Fei straightforwardly picked her up without further ado.

Lin Xueyi immediately cried out in alarm.

"You stinking brat, what are you doing, keep your hands from wandering..."

Yang Fei laughed loudly and quickened his pace.

In the pitch-black night, it seemed to have no effect on him at all.

Lin Xueyi lay honestly on his back.

She could feel Yang Fei's burning body warmth and the warmth spread inside her, irresistibly drawing her closer to him.

Yang Fei gave a bitter smile.

"Sister Xueyi, don't cling too tight."

"I'm a bona fide man, I can't handle that kind of thrill."

"Puh, bastard, can you say something nice?"

"If others asked me to stick close, I wouldn't even do it, but it's cold, isn't it, sister?"

Lin Xueyi's cheeks heated up, but she didn't let go, clinging even tighter.

Yang Fei just smiled bitterly.

In the dark night, Sister Xueyi's courage seemed to grow significantly.

On such an evening, carrying a voluptuous and beautiful woman alone through the wilderness.

Any man would probably have some other thoughts.

However, Yang Fei was not in such a mood.

The closer he got to Heiniu Hollow, the more somber his mood became.

"Sister Xueyi, let me tell you a story,"

Perhaps it was to stop his sorrow from turning into tears.

Yang Fei wiped his face and spoke softly.

Lin Xueyi was a very perceptive woman.

She could tell that although Yang Fei seemed unreliable and carefree,

this man harbored deep sadness and pain in his heart.

She obediently hummed in response, resting her head against Yang Fei's back, her eyes wide open.

"Once, there was a young man who joined the army as soon as he was of age."

"This young man had trained in martial arts from a young age and was quite skilled, a real master."

"In the army, he was quickly promoted and joined one of the country's peak Special Forces."

"He spent a year in this Special Forces unit, earning countless military honors, and later, the organization decided he should serve as a military officer to re-establish a secret Special Forces unit."

"The newly formed unit had a high level of secrecy and stringent organization standards, comprising no more than twenty operatives."

"However, these twenty Special Forces operatives were the nation's top elites."

"Ever since its formation, this new King's Special Forces Unit operated secretly, moving in the darkness and achieving great military accomplishments for the country."

Lin Xueyi's heart hung high.

As Yang Fei spoke, she began to understand.

The Special Forces unit Yang Fei spoke of might just be the one Lin Zi and Yang Fei were part of.

Yang Fei's voice carried a hint of sigh, "In this Special Combat Brigade, there was an operative everyone called Lao Pao."

"Because he always claimed he was cowardly and wanted to run away the moment he heard gunshots."

"However, nobody believed Lao Pao's words because he was famously fearless in battle."

"He was the weapons expert of the Special Forces, and any firearm in his hands would perform at its greatest potential."

"Lao Pao was naive and simple. When the Special Combat Brigade was first formed, everyone picked on him."

"Cleaning the dorms, carrying water, cooking— he did all these tasks."

"He didn't speak Mandarin well, and the operatives often mimicked his broken Mandarin dialect, but he never got angry."

"He inadvertently washed everyone's clothes and pants, including their underwear, spotlessly clean."

"He always said that everyone was brothers in life and death, friends who trust each other on the battlefield, what was there to fuss over."

"Maybe today we chat and joke together, and tomorrow we are glorified…"

The rampaging wind blew over Yang Fei, then onto Lin Xueyi's cheeks.

Lin Xueyi suddenly felt drops of scalding liquid cool in the night wind, splashing onto her face.

One drop even splashed into Lin Xueyi's mouth, bitter and salty.

Lin Xueyi's heart ached.

She had never imagined Yang Fei would cry too.

However, Lin Xueyi said nothing, just pressed closer against Yang Fei's body.

She had already faintly guessed the reason why Yang Fei came all this way to Heiniu Hollow.

Yang Fei's voice became hoarse and low

"During one mission, this Special Forces team got surrounded by countless cruel and powerful enemies due to a leak of intelligence."

"Lao Pao, holding a Gatling gun, forcefully tore open the enemy encirclement, but he himself was shredded by a storm of bullets, half of his body mangled…"

Lin Xueyi's heart trembled, and tears silently flowed down.
