Davi dodged at the last second once again, but Odgar still managed to leave a scratch on his cheek.
Suddenly, his opponent had become more agile, stronger, more powerful, it didn't seem natural.
Is he cheating? Davi wondered as he defended himself as best he could.
The sudden power increase was a bit strange, yet there were hundreds of abilities with status-boosting effects. Perhaps he just had a really good fortification power. Either way, all the boy could do was adapt and seek victory by any means necessary.
The metallic clang of swords clashing echoed through the arena. Clang! Clang!
Odgar's strikes were fast but also a bit predictable. Odgar was an extremely skilled fighter, but suddenly he had started relying on simple, powerful attacks.
Not even the boy himself knew this would happen, but using the amulet messed with his mind, which was why he couldn't fight with his usual calm and elegance. In a way, it even seemed like he had turned into a berserker...
"Die!" the boy shouted, tearing off his own armor to increase his speed.
A powerful firestorm engulfed the arena, forcing Odgar to retreat and giving Davi a chance to recover.
Without hesitation, Davi decided he would no longer hold back in this fight. He had been saving his most powerful techniques for later, keeping them secret, but the risk was too great.
With a swift movement, he used <Fire Storm> and <Fire Breath> at the same time. His lungs filled with energy, and the arena was completely engulfed in fire once more.
"Die!" Odgar shouted again, advancing through the flames, but Davi defended himself with precision, blocking blow after blow.
With a quick kick, he hit Odgar's chest, pushing him back, but the impact was insufficient to knock him down.
Once again, he used fire magic, attacking the swordsman from a distance. His enemy didn't seem to have long-range attacks, so that was a good way to defeat him.
"Damn it, stop fighting like a coward and come face me!" Odgar shouted, trying to provoke Davi into attacking him.
Seeing that pathetic attempt at provocation, he smiled ironically.
"And why should I do that?" He launched flames in his enemy's direction once more. "If you want to fight with swords, you first need to reach me."
Mocking his opponent, Davi drew his own sword, only to make fire accumulate at its tip, then he fired a <Fireball>. But this time he borrowed the skill from one of the maids, so it wasn't very powerful.
"Don't mock me!" Odgar exclaimed, irritated, and advanced once more.
That said, Davi began to dodge his attacks with ease. The more irritated he became, the more predictable his movements became.
"Stop running!" Odgar shouted, lunging again.
"As you wish," Davi replied calmly. In an instant, he counterattacked by swinging his sword in the air.
For a moment, Odgar thought he was an idiot, but the next moment he felt his opponent's <air blade> open a cut on his chest.
The nobleman spat blood, staggering back, his body hunched in pain. Davi allowed himself a slight smile; it was a beautiful surprise blow, but insufficient to end the fight.
"Haha!" Odgar laughed, even wounded. "It's over for you, I'm going to destroy you!" He shouted, acting a little bloated.
He advanced again, but this time he was more careful, so Davi couldn't find any opening to attack.
The main problem was that the fight started to drag on too long, which put him in a bad position.
So he started trying to attack more aggressively, pressuring Odgar, who could barely react anymore.
Without an option, the boy was forced to draw even more power from the amulet to maintain his defense, even more so after suffering such a serious injury. But even that wasn't enough.
"Still want to continue?" Davi asked after landing another <Air Slash> on his opponent.
"Never!" Odgar shouted, "I won't give up, I can't lose here no matter what!" He stared at his opponent with determination.
Davi stood respecting his opponent's wish, but suddenly he felt a shiver run through his body.
Something wasn't right.
A mana explosion erupted from Edgar's body, and all his muscles pulsed.
"Wait, stop the fight," the judge declared, feeling that something wasn't right.
That level of sudden power increase was not normal. Besides, he was sure that the mana was coming from a device to enter the boy's body.
The judge was still unsure, but he wanted to at least investigate. Davi immediately lowered his guard, turning to the judge, but his opponent did not do the same.
The aura around Ordgar changed brutally.
The soft blue of mana gave way to a distorted, almost black glow, with red sparks cutting through the air. The veins in his neck bulged, his eyes became bloodshot, and a guttural roar escaped his throat, more animal than human.
The ground cracked beneath his feet, and in an instant he was before Davi, striking with a speed and force completely different from before.
The impact made Davi's blade vibrate, and he was forced to retreat three steps to absorb the pressure.
Damn... this isn't normal.
"Die!" Ordgar shouted, striking again and again, each attack accompanied by a wave of hot, oppressive air.
Davi tried to dodge and parry, but even his reflexes began to fail under the barrage of attacks. With each impact, his arm tingled.
A thrust came from below; Davi barely managed to intercept it, and even so, he was pushed back, sliding across the floor.
His heart raced, and a cold sweat ran down his temple.
If things continued like this, he could really end up being killed by that damn guy. Even though the judge had already told him to stop, it was useless if he wouldn't obey.
Unfortunately, the simple referee assigned to the first match didn't have enough power to stop Odgar with his current power, so Davi was forced to endure alone for a few moments.
Until an old man stepped into the arena; it was the leader of the judges.
"This stops here," he murmured in a weak voice.
