Chapter 488: CXVII. Ultimate Scammer

Marcus did not respond, he just stared at Ogne's corpse specimen.

During those absurd ten-odd years, because of his blindness, he had never seen Ogne with his own eyes, nor had he seen Zote. He could only construct vague outlines through force field sensing in his mind.

Yet the accumulated majesty brought about fear.

Their eyes were burning black suns, their fingers were ten armies that triumphed everywhere, their chests were man-eating bloody mouths, their ears were smoking graves, their wills were the manifestation of the god of fear.

They...

were unbeatable.

Until today, he finally knew what they really looked like.

So they were...

merely flesh and blood.

"Truly a rare wonder, it seems the Junlin Sword I sent has also been integrated by you. You now have four swords. If time could turn back, if you and I were still in the secret port of Londen City, you could easily defeat me without anyone else's help."

Marcus said calmly.

There was a clicking sound.

Hidden inside Nashano's walking cane was a sharp sword. He pressed the button, and it unsheathed, the blade gleaming.

Those who knew that Liszt could master the Junlin Sword were his confidants, so it didn't matter for the time being. He disliked zealots, and this man belonged to the sect, making his position ambiguous.

Stabbing him and crippling him would make it easier to interrogate the whereabouts of Liszt's old friends later.

Marcus had his back to him, but Nashano made his move, thrusting the sword towards his leg.

"Stop!"

Even Liszt had not expected that this man was a remnant of the former regime. This drug addict could not handle a hundred of his opponents.

But Marcus didn't turn around. When the sword was just half an inch away from stabbing him—

An invisible force field spread out from around him, stronger than ever before, encompassing the entire room.

The light from all the spotlights was distorted, and Nashano was suspended in mid-air in an eerie way. His body leaned forward, one leg stepping forward, but it was as if time had frozen. He was stuck there, unable to even blink.

Liszt also felt it, as if countless big hands had pressed against every inch of his skin, sealing him in solid metal, unable to move a fraction.

He did not know what kind of trick Marcus was playing.

The Junlin Sword's spell power burned on his body, and Liszt forcibly broke free from the invisible shackles, violently dispelling the surrounding Object Manipulation Magic spell power, and slowly walked towards Marcus.

"Your friend isn't very friendly."

Marcus finally turned around, snatched the sword-cane from Nashano's hand, mindful not to stab himself when Nashano fell.

Then he released the spell.

Nashano fell to the ground, his chest heaving violently. He couldn't breathe just now, looking at Marcus in terror. Even with his knowledge, he had never heard of such magic that made time seem to stop.

Liszt frowned. Marcus might have some divine power infused in him, returning to his youthful state. He was now far more powerful than the old man they encountered at the secret port.

"Where is Sharon?"

Liszt approached him, questioning him in a demanding tone.

While studying in North America, Liszt genuinely liked this pure yet wild Californian girl. He had fought secretly at all the landmark places referenced in his love.

"In a dangerous place."

Marcus responded without concealment. This was not something he could decide. The plan to kidnap the New City Industrial District manager had failed, and Zote had cleaned up the mess.

"Are you joking?"

Seeing Marcus still speaking in riddles, Liszt's palm bled, summoning the Junlin Sword he had once bestowed upon Lanshika Tye.

If he had not learned the truth about the Junlin Sword, Liszt wouldn't believe this thing could kill Marcus, who was infused with divine power. Now, the power of the Mother of All Mother could kill even gods.

"Do you know why I brought you here, to visit my former superior? I have a favor to ask of you. If it succeeds, you can naturally take Sharon back."

"I'm not interested. I want to take her now."

"She is not in my hands. You may have misunderstood my letter. I did not take her hostage to coerce you. She has been transferred to a chapel being built along the transcontinental railroad bypassing the Narrow Sea. The chapel needs a Cardinal, and she has been reassigned there."

Marcus said calmly. After regaining his sight, he liked to look closely into people's eyes, often able to intuitively judge what kind of person they were. In the battle at the secret port that day, Liszt showed a tendency for self-destruction. He wouldn't doubt that even if he said Sharon was in the Imperial Palace, Liszt would still charge in.

Liszt hesitated.

Mulong was now more chaotic than the Beima Duchy.

Sharon indeed mentioned in her letter that she had withdrawn from the New City Industrial District and moved to another Cardinal Church, but did not say it was in Mulong.

She also told him not to get involved in Mulong's affairs. No one was a match for the Deputy Commander of the Old Aran Witch Hunting Secret Department.

Thinking back.

Sharon mistakenly thought he had crossed the ocean to Aran to help her solve her enemies.

This time, she didn't want to drag him down anymore.

Such a foolish woman, she was just a desperate remnant of a fallen nation, no match for the overlord of the East Sea.

"You'd better be telling the truth. Which Cardinal Church in Mulong is she in?"

Liszt called back the Junlin Sword. It wasn't a wasted trip since he got the information he needed, but he couldn't stay in the Royal Capital for long.

"I don't know. The sect's arrangements are highly directed. Those irrelevant to the matter cannot know. What I ask of you goes against the current strategy of the Church Court.

You've partnered with Lostrad, right? You want to delay Mulong's railroad progress as much as possible.

But my request goes beyond that. I want you to kill Zote."

Marcus spoke calmly.

He couldn't be sure if he would hesitate when he meets Zote again, but more importantly, he had a more critical mission and couldn't gamble with his life.

"A request? Is there a reward?" Nashano's drug-overdosed body finally recovered. Protecting Liszt's life was the most important thing. It wasn't worth taking the risk, "So bringing us here was to ask us to kill your former superior? You want others to pay for your sins? We should go."

Nashano thought Liszt should just direct his subordinates to secure a minimum position in Mulong. If it worked, great. If not, he could follow him to Pedan, either way, not risking his life. The world wouldn't end without him.

"No, strictly speaking.

This indeed was a request from him, Captain, the current East Sea Brother One, to atone for his sins.

Zote has been imprisoned in the Northern Prison, where he was destined to suffer for the rest of his life.

But it was he who personally released him."

Marcus revealed the truth.

If it weren't for the prison riot, the gray forces of the Western Continent today would be much quieter. But the release of the tiger back into the mountains gave the underground figures too much influence, rallying desperados with renewed fervor.

Liszt naturally wouldn't be convinced by this excuse. It was not just freeing Zote. He would have done the same even for releasing Agares Da Gun from the Northern Prison.

Rescuing Sharon didn't necessarily require killing Zote. Although Mulong was chaotic, it was still relatively safe with the sect's protection. There was no need to completely annihilate Zote in direct confrontation. Stealthily taking her away would suffice.

"Fine. If I get the chance, I'll kill him along the way."

He only agreed verbally. It was time to leave the Royal Capital.

"In exchange, I will tell you all the secrets of the Eternal Sect since its establishment, and fully assist you in gathering the Junlin Sword, reforging the Mother of All Mother that was melted into the sword by sorcerers seven hundred years ago. And, of course, the Dragon Lord's True Prophecy. You, the Outer Heaven Visitors, are an indispensable part of this. Just bring Zote's head to me."

Marcus said calmly.

"How do you know? The Mother of All Mother?"

Nashano could not believe it. There should have been very few people in the world who knew.

"Interesting." Marcus thought these two would have been completely unaware, "The Dragon Lord rules over everything, within and without the eternal, the vast expanse of time, knowing everything."
