Don't Mess with That Dragon

Chapter 133: The Terrible "Death God" (3rd update requesting recommendations)

It was learned from the knowledge of the previous life that the melting point of copper is lower than that of iron. Since that man built a blast furnace with clay and refined iron with charcoal, using the blast furnace to refine copper should also work.

Copper artifacts are too important for the development of the Dragon Nest Tribe. One could say it is a crucial material that changes the civilization's production of the Dragon Nest Tribe. Even if the first batch fails to produce copper, even if constant attempts are needed, Austin is determined to produce bronze before this harsh winter ends.

After several efforts, the organization level of the entire Dragon Nest Tribe has already become high. With Austin deciding to restart the copper refining work, hundreds of beastmen were organized to cross roads blocked by snow and wind, heading towards the bronze ore base.

Fortunately, all the necessary preparations were completed initially. Charcoal, the blast furnace, and copper ore were all ready. Now, it's only a matter of experimenting before moving into mass production.

During this harsh winter, because ice and snow have frozen the ground, many things couldn't unfold, with virtually nothing urgent to do.

Just like the reconstruction work on houses, due to the cold winter's freeze, as soon as water is splashed outside, it freezes into ice, making it impossible to work mud or dry it. Thus, brick making can't continue.

Fortunately, there's no need to worry too much about fire disasters during the cold winter. The beastmen can construct temporary wooden and grass structures to barely get through this harsh winter. After all, many houses of the Dragon Nest Tribe were burnt down in the previous mercenary attack. Although squeezing into the remaining houses can accommodate people, it is quite cramped.

The arrival of the cold winter brought problems not only with bricks not being able to be made and houses difficult to rebuild, but also with the extreme cold making the ground as hard as iron, making cultivation work impossible. Many work progress halted during this winter.

However, the arrival of winter isn't entirely without benefit. At least, after the ice sheet freezes nearby lakes and reservoirs, the beastmen can start to fish by cutting through the ice. Due to last year's vast planting and harvesting of arrowroot, there was also a large yield of kudzu vines.

These kudzu vines couldn't just be set ablaze. Once the leaves were stripped off, the vines were boiled in a water tank to remove the flesh, then the leftover fibers were picked out and dried. Skilled female beastmen would then weave them into ropes. These ropes, whether for making nets or any other purpose, become extremely robust tools.

Austin actually remembers that hemp ropes were made from a plant called hemp. However, since Austin is not an omniscient god, he only knows the name and has never seen what it looks like in his previous life, making it hard to find a similar plant in this world.

But although hemp wasn't found, the kudzu vines contain very tough plant fibers. After such processing, the ropes made are roughly similar in toughness to authentic hemp ropes.

Recently, the beastmen in the manufacturing workshop came up with an idea of weaving nets with the rope, then placing heavy stones along the edges of the nets. This way, when the net is cast over a river, the weight of the stones causes the edges to quickly sink, with the middle part forming a gap like an inverted cover falling from the water's surface, capturing more fish.

Austin isn't aware of this improved fishing net. If he were to see it, he would find it surprisingly similar to the fishing nets used by small private fishermen families along the river in his previous life.

These developments have never been taught by Austin, indicating that goblins are slowly entering a stage of self-reflection and research rather than relying entirely on Austin's reproductions of techniques from his past life. Developing self-innovative abilities marks a solid beginning.

...

This time, Austin only took a hundred or so beastmen from the Dragon Nest Tribe for copper refining, considering the need to guard the Dragon Nest Base, and initial tests and experiments were required before large-scale production could commence, so not many beastmen were needed. A hundred was already quite a number.

After traveling over twenty miles, Austin mainly flew through the sky to prevent dreadful hunters like giant beasts or magic beasts from tracking them.

Fortunately, the path was uneventful. After spending most of the day, the beastmen safely arrived at the bronze ore base.

However, when everyone arrived, the sight before them left all the beastmen shocked.

Ice, a pale blue layer of ice covered the entire valley. Trees appeared as if they were ice sculptures or amber, thick layers of ice encased them.

Other places were generally covered in heavy snow, but here it was all ice. The whole valley was frozen as if even snowflakes became one with the ice, creating a dazzling crystalline world that revealed a frightening and silent stillness.

The dreadful chill still pervaded the surroundings, with the cold penetrating to the bone. Breathing in made it feel as if the nose had gone numb from freezing, and the lungs felt like they were being cut by blades.

"Colorless Death, huh..."

Austin kicked up large swathes of snowflakes, landing on the ground from the sky, looking towards the frozen valley terrain ahead, already understanding what had happened here.

When the cold winter suddenly came, with a terrifying cold front surging from tens of thousands of meters in the sky, a portion of the cold stream in the sky abruptly collapsed, with an alarming coldness pouring down from the heavens like a waterfall, freezing the entire valley into ice sculptures!

Only such a cold stream, falling from tens of thousands of meters high, would cause what the beastmen referred to as "Colorless Death," "the wingless angel fallen from heaven" to create such a terrifying spectacle—an entire valley encased in an iron-like ice sheet, with life nearly extinct.

This descending cold stream was truly horrific, its chill even killing plants in hibernation. Even after winter has passed and life reawakens, this valley terrain would still be filled with the deathly color of barren grey and yellow, as the coldness has slain even the plants that grew here.

This was Austin's first time facing such a powerful cold stream of Colorless Death.

"Let's go, let's gather with the others first."

This valley was merely a place to store charcoal and copper ore, while the base where the remaining beastmen resided was not far off at the ruins of the Blood Claw Tribe Branch. Luckily, the collapsing cold stream did not reach the rebuilt living site at the Blood Claw Tribe Branch remains, allowing the beastmen stationed there to escape a calamity.

Of course, if there was a sufficiently dense house and a fire inside, this so-called "Colorless Death" would not be so lethal for the beastmen living inside.
