Chapter 157: Another Puzzle Piece on the Evening of May 6

Suddenly, a tremor roared in his mind, and the vision before his eyes shattered abruptly. A scene emerged in his mind as if simulated through extrapolation—

The scene depicted a dimly lit tiered classroom. The classroom's thick bomb-proof glass was covered with a layer of mist, with raindrops constantly striking the windows. The damp and cold breath seemed as if it could penetrate into the classroom.

It was May 6th, 2023, after the flash had extinguished in Class 2, Group B...

Normal scenes flashed through Lin Yi's mind, then, as if from a god-like perspective, he saw his classmates, bearing crazed, demonic expressions, unnaturally extracting themselves from their sunken seats and moving slowly around the classroom with stiff steps.

In such a classroom, Little Genius was curled up under a desk, from where he retrieved a flashlight and began observing the classroom after turning on the beam of light.

After a while—or perhaps quite swiftly—the classroom door was opened by a Conceptual Rank sculpture, and a green mist carrying a strong scent of contamination surged into the room.

The classmates who inhaled the green mist began transforming into human sculptures, and having witnessed this, Little Genius's cognition collapsed on the spot, his pupils dilating wildly...

Then the green mist entered Little Genius's body, and the human sculptures, as if sniffing deliciously scented food, converged towards him, pulling him out from under the desk...

What followed was a bloody and cruel scene. Little Genius was mangled by the human sculptures, perhaps leaving his limbs shattered.

When Little Genius's flashlight fell to the ground and was kicked inadvertently by an unseen human sculpture, some of the less attentive classmates were attracted by the flashlight's light, witnessing a scene that shattered their cognition as well. At that moment, it turned into Little Genius firing a shot using Deadly Words; after the bullet traveled for a while, it randomly took some lucky spectators with it.

God of AOE, Guan Yu.

Yet, even as Lin Yi's mind continued to extrapolate this scene, time did not stop, it rapidly moved past the moment the Security Guard took away the Conceptual Rank, to just before the lights were about to be turned back on.

Several human sculptures dragged Little Genius's body out of the classroom, down the steps, and into the Green Forest Belt.

Little Genius's corpse was exposed in the wilderness, but it continued to absorb the green mist. By the time daylight arrived, Little Genius's body, having embraced the green mist, gradually turned into a white plaster-like sculpture under the sunlight.

Because it had endured inhuman torture before death, the sculpture retained a grotesque and abstract expression of agony.

The scene gradually began to freeze there, and the perspective in Lin Yi's mind slowly shifted until, when the scene came to a complete standstill, the "camera" moved to the Teaching Building, fixating on the morning of May 7th, where it caught a glimpse of Little Genius's "self" looking out the window.

Time seemed to loop, achieving some kind of closure, and this time, clearly with more details, filling in some of the gaps from that night.

Lin Yi found it somewhat unbelievable. This scene, in fact, was a kind of "dynamic puzzle" formed after piecing together his current speculations, the sounds heard that night, visions from Tian Bufan's dream, and images from Pan Jian's digital camera, yet it felt so real that he believed it might just be the truth.

As he pondered, he was about to snap back to reality, yet he realized that the ground by his feet had unknowingly become covered with frost. The cold he had not noticed earlier overwhelmed him as soon as he became aware of it, like a dam-breaking flood.

A severe chill enveloped him instantly, as if a blizzard had struck S City University under cover of darkness.

He suddenly noticed that the lights in the corridor had gone out—no, not that they were out, but... there were no lights in the corridor at all!

Li Huiyuan was not by his side, nor was there a door to the Teacher's Office.

"What the fuck... When did I drop off the layer?"

A strong sense of unease surged in Lin Yi's heart, realizing he was in a corridor that, though unlit, was not completely dark. The corridor resembled a tunnel battered by the wind and snow, where cold breezes swirled snowflakes endlessly, while the ground and walls around him were already covered with frost.

Even the ceiling above was hung with icicles.

Meanwhile, the fierce cold wind continued to circle the corridor, emitting a chilling "whoo whoo whoo" sound, as though a chainsaw maniac was frantically hacking at granite. Within this inhuman frequency of noise, Lin Yi keenly caught a strange tone...

"Shush shush shush... shush shush shush..."

This sound, as if made by a tuner placed in a pipe pulled near and away, was like someone hanging from a rope calling out to him, the voice sometimes distant, sometimes near, with echoing reverberations, chaotic and noisy. Lin Yi didn't want to listen but could hear, wanted to hear yet couldn't make out clearly, tormented within.

Suddenly, he noticed a shadow slowly emerging from the depths of the dark corridor...

The figure stepped out from the dim shadows, gradually revealing his face...

The moment he saw the other's face, Lin Yi's scalp felt as if it was being peeled off, sending sharp tingling sensations, while the cold furiously whirled around, no longer discernable whether it originated from the corridor or from within himself.
