Occupation: Knight, Intermediate Wizard Apprentice

With a top-notch breathing method and the aid of High-quality Beast Pills, his physical progress remained astonishing, while his spiritual power increased at a relatively slower rate.

「Under the cover of night.」

Carl transformed into a shadowy figure, soaring forward. The Giant Spirit Breathing Technique was not known for footwork or speed, but it possessed the ability to conceal one's presence and move without making a sound. Avoiding the attention of ordinary people was not a difficult task for him. Moreover, something seemed to have happened here; many people were panicking, which provided Carl with an opening.

"Where is this?"

The passageway before him was dim, narrow, and filled with an indescribable aura, which subtly triggered his sense of alarm.

It seemed Eugene was no mere ordinary officer! This place was more like a secret base, an unknown stronghold, and he was one of its members.

TAP TAP...

Hurried footsteps echoed.

"Hurry up!"

"Someone has broken into the base!"

Several people rushed past from behind, continuously shouting, "There might be an inspection from the Inspection Department tomorrow. We need to move the stuff out of here beforehand."

"Quick!"

Carl hid in the darkness, stroked his chin, and quietly followed them.

Not far ahead, the view brightened, and the space opened up. It was a space comparable to the size of a basketball court, its ground covered in an unknown sticky liquid. In mid-air, giant 'insect cocoons' hung, with numerous thin tubes connecting them all. The 'insect cocoons' swayed occasionally, emitting bizarre, unsettling noises. On one side of the wall, the tubes connecting the cocoons converged, and a dark red liquid dripped from them. This liquid ultimately collected into a pool where it churned. Several men in white coats occasionally scooped up the liquid and placed it into porcelain bottles.

Mucus, insect cocoons, thin tubes, blood-like liquid... The scene that met his eyes was strange, sinister, and bizarre in every detail.

"Is this the Pure Potion?" someone, apparently new to this place, asked curiously, looking at the liquid in the pool. "After drinking it, can it make people younger?"

"The Pure Potion needs virgins to refine; these are, at best, counterfeit products," someone else shook their head. "The female workers from the textile factory are all thin and malnourished, lacking enough life force to refine the Pure Potion. Still, even counterfeit products are bestsellers—many wealthy ladies consume a bottle daily."

"Hehe..." one man chuckled lowly. "If they knew that the so-called nutritional supplement they're consuming is extracted from other people's corpses, I wonder if they could still stomach it?"

"It won't have any effect," a man in a white coat spoke up from the group. "Those elites are already drinking the blood of the living; otherwise, how could they enjoy their current leisurely lives?"

"That's true!"

PFFT!

As they spoke, a strange noise suddenly came from above their heads; an insect cocoon had inexplicably cracked open.

"Watch out!"

"Get out of the way!"

BANG!

The men exclaimed in horror as a dark figure fell from the ruptured cocoon, crashing heavily onto the mucus-covered floor.

It was a human! Inside the cocoon, there was, shockingly, a person! A woman, curled up, without a stitch of clothing!

No! More accurately, it was a female corpse! The corpse's back was grotesquely swollen, like a huge tumor, and one could vaguely see something moving inside.

A spider! It seemed a spider was constantly moving within the tumor.

"What a pity!" The man in the white lab coat looked regretful. "This corpse had the potential to nurture a Spider Woman, and then we would have received a bonus. Not anymore."

Not all human corpses could be used to nurture Spider Women; in fact, the success rate was depressingly small. Correspondingly, for every Spider Woman they successfully nurtured, they were rewarded with a hefty bonus.

WHOOSH!

Suddenly, a ball of fire appeared above the cocoon. The cocoon was flammable, instantly erupting into a blazing inferno that spread rapidly, blanketing the entire area in the blink of an eye. The firelight illuminated the darkness, also revealing Carl's figure.

"That's really... disgusting!" Carl's voice was cold.

Although he had only overheard bits and pieces, it was enough to piece together the truth. The disappearances of the female workers from the textile factory were indeed connected to these people; they used the missing women to refine potions and breed Spider Women.

No wonder! No wonder Eugene could find Amy, who had disappeared, to frame him.

The inconceivable methods of abducting living people to refine them into potions and nurture abominations completely revolted Carl. A nameless rage ignited in his heart. Originally, his plan had been to deal with Eugene and then leave, settling his private score. But now, he felt an urge to kill more of them, to christen his blade with their blood.

He sighed and shook his head. Suddenly, numerous flashes of sword light appeared, the intersecting sword shadows enveloping everyone at the scene.

Kill! Only killing could extinguish this nameless fire in his heart.

PFFT!

PFFT! PFFT!

When the sword shadows vanished, only one person was left alive—and this survivor was, of course, an acquaintance.

"It's you!" Eugene's body trembled, his teeth clenched tightly. "Car—"

"Did we have a grudge before?" Carl asked indifferently. "Why did you frame me?"

"You killed my brother!" Eugene's eyes bored into him.

"Your brother?" Carl looked puzzled, then shook his head. He had killed so many people he couldn't remember them all, nor did he care to know which one Eugene meant.

It doesn't matter anymore!

SWOOSH!

The broad sword swept out, and Eugene's head flew high into the air.

"Who's there?"

"Someone else has broken in!"

"Get him!"

By this time, the raging fire had attracted others. A large group of people charged toward Carl's location, shouting.
