The ships is gently bobbing up and down moored in Borgarsandr harbour. Seagulls squawk. The morning's news leaves me feeling numb, speechless, annoyed and in a bad mood. Iselin and Ciara are furious, while Jane is in a bit of shock, because during the night Sasgaerda suffocated the two youngest of Arkanes' children, who were Heila's young siblings, and almost managed to kill her daughter Bodfrid, but was discovered and stopped when her much large and stronger teenage daughter resisted and made noises. Sasgaerda had intended to kill as many of the children as she could, and it was of course sensible to start with the little ones. Adallaug is horrified, angry and sad because they were her children, and she cannot understand how Sasgaerda could do that. Adallaug is worried that I will no longer take Heila as my Frilla, who is her last child, as their honour and word are broken, and that I will now torture them all to death. Heila is shocked and distraught.

What has happened is bad enough, but the problem is that after she was stopped, Sasgaerda got a devilish idea and publicly and loudly insulted me in specific and creative ways, claiming that Frilla is not yet valid because I have not taken Heila, i.e. had sex with her, because I am not man enough to do so, and I have not 'taken' Sasgaerda or Adallaug either, like a real man would have done. A real man would have forced his enemy into submission, especially beautiful women like her and Heila! It's a mess, because so many people know what happened and the rumour has already spread. But judging and punishing Sasgaerda is not the problem; the problem is that, according to people close to me, she is legally speaking correct about Frilla: Heila is not my Frilla until we have had sex. According to the law, just as marriage requires sex and the man to cum in the woman for it to be legally binding, so does Frilla, and usually the sex takes place with one or more family members or relatives as witnesses, and if it is not done immediately on the spot, it takes place on the first evening, and often the woman spends the night and they also have sex in the morning. We should have had sex last night on the way back to Borgarsandr, but I told the family and witnesses that it would happen once back at Ackerek Islands.

Another thing that is really bad is that I didn't even think to ask about Heila's age, and now Jane and I have found out that she is only 15 and won't turn 16 for another week. So I definitely don't want to have sex with Heila, and even waiting until she turns 16 feels so damn dirty. Just 16 years old! Sure, Heila takes after her mother and is well above average height for a woman, but how could I not think to ask about her age!?! How could I have missed that!?! That she probably would have been married off if she was much older?! Especially as a Jarl's daughter.

Sasgaerda has very specifically and loudly questioned my manhood and Freya's blessing because I wasn't interested in 'taking' Heila as a man should, don't have any healthy children, and my 'ability to perform as a man' was damaged by Radgeirrson. It doesn't help that we've spread rumours that I might not be able to have children with Elves. Asbjörn's declaration of my manliness is another matter. It is not difficult to understand how everything can be interpreted and rumours will spread. Sasgaerda has been a Jarl's wife for two decades and the power behind the throne, so she knew damn well what to say and what it meant and consequences. Haera's pregnancy is extremely inappropriate to announce, and like Jalida's pregnancy is irrelevant because it has not been proven that I am the father. It will also be a long time before either of them gives birth, and neither Jalida's or Haera's word can be trusted. I am a very public figure, and as a Sejdmann, my manliness is already being questioned. Calling in female witnesses that I've had sex with is not really enough, because who knows how it actually happened? Was sejd or galder involved?

Sasgaerda has very deliberately put me and my sambos in a hell of a bind, and I wish Kari were here, even though it wouldn't make much difference. They have spoken to her via radio and unfortunately she doesn't have any clever ideas either, but she is just as furious as Iselin and Ciara. 'Simply raping' and executing Sasgaerda quickly and efficiently is not enough, because she must be punished for killing other slaves I own, and my manliness must be clearly proven. The punishment for she as a slave killing other slaves could be execution, but as a child murderer and attempted murderer of her own child, she deserve no mercy, and if I execute her, it could be taken as me trying to avoid proving my manliness in the usual way. Sasgaerda made sure to shout this out.

She is already my slave, so according to the law and culture, I need to make Sasgaerda a Nidambott, and after her next period, when it is proven that she is not already pregnant but appears capable of having children, I must rape her in front of witnesses to show that I am man enough, and that includes coming inside her, so that independent witnesses, preferably in the form of Tingswomen, can confirm that my sperm is inside her vagina. Sasgaerda shall then be guarded by Tingswomen while I continue to have sex with her and come inside her, until it is clear that she is pregnant with no possibility that any other man has impregnated her. Sasgaerda shall then continue to be guarded so that she cannot cause herself to lose the child, and so that the food she eats is not drugged or similar.

Sasgaerda quickly shouted this so that everyone knows, and that she should preferably give birth to several healthy children who are undoubtedly mine. After that she can be tortured and executed. It is of course best if I come inside Sasgaerda every few days, or at least when she is fertile. This clearly proves that I am manly, which is also the reason for having several children. Of course the culture here sees no moral issues in any of this. A man shouldn't have a problem having sex with a woman, but instead be happy to have such clear proof of his manliness as Sasgaerda clearly wants to be, and as a bonus she is beautiful, so what is the problem? That I will then have to take care of the child or children, and that the children will know their origins and what their mother did and was tortured and killed for, is no problem, right? Many children are a blessing, even if they're not from my wife or other official women.

Iselin, Ciara and Kari also want clear proof, so that my manliness can never again be questioned.

That's bad enough. But Sasgaerda has also declared herself 'old', so even if she gets her period each month, she may not get pregnant the first month or months, and there are laws about penalties for blood ties that are similar for Daes and Northmen. Sasgaerda was stopped from killing her 13-year-old daughter Bodfrid, who has been menstruating for more than a year and is therefore an 'adult' in marriageable age and an untouched virgin. Bodfrid is also already my slave and not a free woman, and there is no age limit. Even if Bodfrid had been a completely ordinary 13-year-old slave girl that I owned, it would have been completely legal for me to rape Bodfrid and it would not be considered rape or sex with a minor. Sasgaerda has been vocal about her daughter and that I should also impregnate her daughter Bodfrid, so I cannot blame Sasgaerda's age and the fact that Sasgaerda has not become pregnant or had a child since she had Bodfrid, and thus may be unable to have more children.

So I can torture and execute Sasgaerda, and instead prove my manliness by raping 13-year-old Bodfrid and getting her pregnant, but that's so damn Nope!

I really wished someone would have tied something in Sasgaerda's mouth to stop her from speaking!

When Sasgaerda failed to kill Bodfrid and was guarded more closely, she knew very well what was likely to await her in the future, and it is probably a very deliberate attempt to make me take Bodfrid as my Frilla too, or at least make her pregnant, preferably with several children. Because eventually I will need to make Heila pregnant. As my Frilla, she must become pregnant and bear my children to make it clear that the gods have blessed our union. Must. Ugh!

So, according to every Elf around me, the least bad option is to make Sasgaerd my Nidambott, and keep her prisoner and guarded around the clock by independent Tingswomen, unless Sasgaerda is locked up with her arms and legs spread out in a cell so she cannot harm herself or any children, and I should try to get Sasgaerda pregnant in front of these Tingswomen witnesses until she gives birth. To be on the 'safe side', I should at least keep Sasgaerda's daughter Bodfrid closely guarded and preferably locked up until Sasgaerda is pregnant. Her mother has loudly declared and proven that the 'Frilla peace' via Heila is not respected by Sasgaerda, who does not actually share Heila's blood, while Bodfrid is of Sasgaerda's blood, which means that Bodfrid cannot be trusted either, unless I take her as Frilla as well. Which then requires sex and children! With a 13-year-old! So Frilla will absolutely not happen, but Bodfrid can swear on her honour, and I can partly trust Bodfrid's honour by 'only' having a guard on her during the day and allowing her to work, but locked in a bed or similar at night. I also need to execute Sasgaerda's two 'adult' sons because they are clearly untrustworthy too and doesn't have sufficient value for me or mine. I have already declared that they would be sold overseas like any other slave and not kept as working trophies or something. Heila is naturally worried that she will have to prove her loyalty to me by executing her older brothers, but that is not something I will force her to do, or allow her to do.

Nor will I follow the whispering rumour that Caecilia said she had heard, that I should rape the sons and castrate them before the execution, in order to truly eradicate their manliness from Sasgaerda and her husband. However, I am close to forcing Sasgaerda to do this to her own sons, as an extra punishment for her, and my Elven sambos sort off want that to happen, with Sasgaerda being forced to kill them by drowning them in a bucket, so that Sasgaerda does not have a knife or anything similar, and she needs to feel them struggling, and afterwards the buckets of water should be buried.

Iselin is particularly angry because her plan for Adallaug and Sasgaerda cannot be carried out on Sasgaerda, who really deserves it, and much of Iselin and Ciara's hatred has been refocused on Sasgaerda, whom they have given a couple of mighty slaps.

Damn Sasgaerda!
