Red Blood Wood is a unique tree species of Nagariel, known for its blood-red color throughout and its gold threads, which endow it with a sacred quality.
In many religious beliefs, "gold" seems to be a characteristic exclusive to the divine. For instance, in mythical tales, the blood of gods is often described as "golden in hue," or even directly as "golden blood."
The attributes of Red Blood Wood have spawned legends and myths; in some tales, the blood of the gods falls to the ground, and only where their blood gathers does Red Blood Wood grow. The gold threads within it represent undiminished Divinity.
The more gold threads a Red Blood Wood has, the pricier it becomes. Some special specimens are valued at several times, even dozens of times the price of gold of equivalent weight.
Nagariel is a nation of Faith, where people believe that furniture or items made from Red Blood Wood can imbue their bodies with a divine aura, offering protection from gods at the time of great catastrophe, allowing entry into the Divine Kingdom.
Thus, people rush to use the wood of Red Blood Wood; however, its special characteristics and status in religion have led to it being listed as a prohibited tree for cutting.
To obtain this wood, one must first get the consent of local Temples, only then might it be permitted to cut down such precious trees.
Perhaps initially, people just wanted something of special significance to elevate their status, but as time slowly passed, some things that might have been lies before have now become reality.
After Lynch briefly understood the topic, he missed it and moved on to topics that interested Mikhail and some other people.
"Let me talk about some of my upcoming plans…" As people held their breath and focused on him, only Lynch's voice cut through the soothing and culturally rich music played in the distant corner of the hall.
This hall's architectural structure was meticulously designed with Lynch's area serving as the core zone of the entire hall. Although it's not in the very center, the acoustics allow the sounds from a speaker here to be clearly heard by everyone in the room.
Every civilization has its merits; even if it might lag behind contemporary times today, there were times when it led the era in the long river of history!
Of course, the Federation doesn't count because its history is not very long.
"The issue of setting up factories will be addressed first. I am unsure of what I can do here, nor can I transport raw materials from elsewhere, process them here, and then ship them out. This would dramatically increase my costs; hence I'm leaning towards products for which raw materials can be sourced locally."
"These require further observation and exploration before drawing conclusions. But generally speaking, I remain optimistic about Nagariel's future; it provides extremely fertile ground for the survival of capital forces, and we can foresee increased capital settling here in the future."
"Although we cannot immediately commence factory-building and production, we can start by engaging in business."
"Timber, spices, animal furs, claws, and teeth, as well as beautiful gems, gold and silver, copper will do; I want them all. Weekly settlement days with options to pay in Nagariel, Federation Sol, or other widely accepted currencies!" he added as if suddenly recalling something, "Oh, and we also have war bonds with potential for appreciation that can be used for payment!"
Lynch held an incalculable number of bonds. Mentioning them did not suggest these bonds were languishing in his hands; quite the contrary, especially as Bail Federal increased in international standing and began frequent international diplomacy, the conversion terms for these bonds gradually unfreeze and relax.
Gafura was willing to redeem these bonds at half their face value, so Lynch had already made a tidy profit, yet he remained slightly greedy, believing changes might happen and others shared this sentiment. Thus, most bonds were still in people's hands, with only a few fearful individuals fleeing.
If the people here were willing to purchase these bonds, Lynch felt there was certainly no harm in it; such transactions involved willing sellers and buyers, and if Gafura later refused to redeem them, it had nothing to do with Lynch. That would be Gafura's vile imperialist facade, and Lynch would also be a victim.
Considering this, he felt using those bonds in such ways might be a good idea; perhaps people preferred quick redemption over cash, seeking bonds with higher appreciation potential?
Following Lynch's words, someone posed a question, "Mr. Lynch, do you want any kind of animal fur?"
It was a plump person who spoke, and Lynch looked around, noticing almost half the guests here leaned toward corpulence, with some visibly obese individuals.
This starkly contrasted with Bail Federal's upper society, where individuals at the top echelons consistently maintained rigorous dietary and fitness habits. Rarely would one see a corpulent executive or consortium leader there.
Even if there were, they would be very few. Most people cared deeply for their health and physical condition, some leading lives as disciplined as Ascetics!
Some measured their daily schedules down to the second. Recently, the Federation began trending toward fragmented resting periods.
It's said these individuals pioneered it, firmly believing fragmented deep rest benefitted the body more than a whole night's sleep. Generally, the Federation's upper society and the upper society here hold completely different attitudes towards "self."
One has subtly learned self-restraint, while here, desires are still indulged.
Lynch nodded affirmatively without hesitation, "Any animal fur, but I must inform everyone in advance that furs of ferocious beasts and rodent furs will never share the same price. The larger the beast's size, the more ferocious it is, and the more complete its fur, these determine the item's pricing."
"If someone can catch a living predator without any injury or diseases, it can also be exchanged for money!"
The people around listened attentively; much of Nagariel's land is grassland and jungle, home to a plethora of wildlife.
Previously, people were reluctant to hunt wild animals; partly because it was very dangerous, especially in the jungles where species from tiny insects to colossal snakes posed lethal threats to humans.
There was no necessity to risk life venturing into jungles for some food.
Additionally, this backward country surprisingly had a solid agricultural foundation due to its temperate and tropical climate conducive to farming.
With simple sowing and care, enough grain for consumption could grow, negating the need to tread into jungles.
However, some things began changing from this moment; people would willingly enter jungles, whether voluntarily or forced.
The fur merchant expressed satisfaction by stepping back after his inquiry, prompting a new question from another, "Mr. Lynch, do you have any criteria for spice procurement?"
Lynch continuously answered people's inquiries as though he was there to distribute wealth.
In a slightly later private study room, the Provincial Governor sat behind a desk, examining introductions of Bail Federal and Lynch's conduct within it.
He had meticulously investigated Lynch, alongside a cursory overview of Bail Federal.
Seeing Bail Federal adopting an isolation policy until recently inexplicably warmed him to the nation since Nagariel likewise adhered to isolationism.
They avoided voluntary contact with the world, unwelcoming of other countries' disturbances, striking a chord of resonance with the Provincial Governor. Nevertheless, the value of this resonance was limited to this.
Besides him, there sat his five sons in the room. Boys, not all of them.
He had nine sons and seven daughters; in Nagariel, as long as a man proved capable, he could care for more women. It showcased their prowess, and none reproached them for it.
In other Provinces, a seventy-one-year-old Provincial Governor found joy in creating life and expanding his lineage, now boasting over two hundred children and more than three hundred grandchildren, demanding many helpers daily just for family meals.
Compared to the prolific father of many, the Degra Provincial Governor here had a more straightforward style.
"What do you think this Lynch from Bail Federal intends by coming here at this time?" The Degra Provincial Governor set down his papers, removing his glasses to lean back, momentarily relaxing as he glanced across the five sons opposite him.
These were his most outstanding sons, excluding daughters. In a male-dominated society, women lacked any status, even of noble birth.
Currently, Nagariel faced some changes; global warfare made the secluded and backward nation acutely aware of certain threats. They understood they couldn't oppose war machinery.
Thoughts of reform emerged among some domestically; unfortunately, such ideas were just faint glimmers unable to ignite even a leaf, much less set the world ablaze.
The decayed ruling class feared change; if class barriers shattered, some may end up as fodder for newly rising ruling classes, thus they avoided such questions.
At this subtle point in time, rather than choosing nations better suited for investment, more stable ones, Lynch stepped into Nagariel's mire, leaving Degra unable to ascertain his true intentions.
Was Lynch truly there for business, or to stir trouble?
