Reincarnated! A Tale of the Sorceress Amaya

Chapter 265: Evolutions

Lucy had fallen asleep as her tail grew. The fourth one should be a big deal, it would bring her into the next stage of aura control. She was now entering the realms of people like Lilith. Although, Lucy's special connection with me made it hard to truly rank her powers, I suppose.

Of course the real win was the increase in fluffiness. One more tail to cuddle.

"My lady…" I heard Lily breathing hard. "What… what has happened?"

"Lucy is growing another tail!" I replied with a smile, then I looked at her.

Lily was sweating heavily and she looked like she was about to collapse. "Are you alright?" I asked, suddenly worried.

"She is evolving." Lilith said. I had not noticed her approaching us.

"Evolving?" I wondered.

"She is becoming a high succubus." Lilith added.

"My back…" Lily said.

Lilith nodded. "You are growing wings. Your armour can change, right? Make sure you have space."

It seemed like my ritual to empower the dryads had a lot of consequences. The bond that we shared had given everyone a certain amount of power. Lilith's words had eased my concerns and now I was watching Lily with excitement.

It took a few more minutes but suddenly something burst from her back. Wings stretched out behind her… Wings made of lightning. They were beautiful. They looked like hundreds of interwoven lightning bolts.

"That… that is not normal." Lilith said, sounding shocked.

"I supposed you expected normal demonic wings? Aren't your own wings made of fire though?" I asked.

"I am a demon lord, not a high succubus! Of course my wings are special. But Lilastheria…" Lilith kept staring.

"She is a Maid Knight of the Storm." I finished.

Meanwhile, Lily was fascinated by her own wings. She did seem to have slight trouble controlling them, but managed to curl her left wing around herself so she could touch it.

"It's weird. It's not really solid." She said, with her hand on her wing.

"Energy wings can be very powerful. You can use them to attack. But they can be hurt and exhaust you if you overuse them." Lilith warned. "You can also dismiss them when you don't need them."

"I would appreciate it if you helped her understand and use those wings." I said to Lilith.

Lilith nodded. "I can do that. Maybe you can return the favour in the future."

I was ok with that. With all the rituals and things I had shown Lilith she was certain to try something at some point. Maybe I could help her improve her own servants in the future.

The other maid knights had not been hit that hard. While they might have gained some boosts there was nothing too visible. Well, except the dryads. They had been the focus after all.

The bark on Ash's tree had purple streaks now. The streaks glowed slightly and looked like a liquid was moving inside of them. I had no idea if that was simply a visual feature or not.

Lucy was still sleeping so I picked her up and carried her, as I approached Ash.

"Is lady Lucy alright?" Ash asked.

"Yes, she is growing another tail! Are you alright? And the grove? It looks like a lot is happening." I replied.

Ash took a moment before she answered. "It has been a bit overwhelming. Becoming maid knights was already a transformation but I was not aware that you were simply preparing us for so much more." Ash looked at her arm and touched it. "We have changed. The soil has changed. Lightning flows through all of us, feeds us." A small spark danced on her hand.

"Electricity burns wood. And here I am, playing with it. It feels nice. Our roots have now fully covered the town and some of the surrounding area. We could use them to pierce our prey, then stun them with lightning while we consume them." She mused.

My eyes widened. "Wait a moment, you can now electrify your roots? And they cover everything here?"

"Yes." Ash confirmed.

"What do you need to produce electricity? Do you consume spell slots?" I asked.

Ash shook her head. "No. Some of us have magic and use spell slots but a lot of our powers are inborn. But we cannot use them indefinitely. We certainly need rest and sustenance to replenish them."

"Hm. Sustenance could certainly be arranged, we have a forest of monsters after all." I mused.

What Ash was unaware of was the true meaning of this discovery. Essentially my grove was an electric grid. Of course, this world had replicated a lot of technology with magic. But magic required mana, or spell slots. It had to be powered as well. Magical lightning might be able to power either electric or magical devices. And the grove was not just the grid, in a way they were a power plant. We just had to fuel them with monster corpses. Maybe we could include some mana crystals and give them some storage. Maybe a ritual to help recharge the crystals if they ever ran low…

Could I invent some sort of magical power socket? And install it in every home? Normalise how magical appliances were powered? I needed more engineers. I needed more mages. But one thing was certain, my town had a bright future ahead.
