The succubus uprising was surprisingly small. Perhaps some of them realised they were on the losing side and did not join in. Or maybe Sianderis thought after defeating Lilith everyone would simply join her.
My people had mostly secured the plaza. Sianderis had been pushed back and was bleeding heavily. Shani had cornered her and was currently licking blood from her scythe with a smile.
But I felt something with my aura. Something in the air. I looked up. A small group of people was flying this way. I moved closer to Shani and Sianderis, it seemed to be their destination.
The new arrivals had lizard tails and their bodies were covered in scales. They had lizard-like heads too, but with horns. Interestingly, some of them had four arms. None had wings, they were flying with magic.
The group landed next to the bleeding succubus.
"Belphestus, help me!" Sianderis pleaded.
The lead demon looked at her and snorted. He was one with four arms. His scales were a dark green. His eyes were pitch black.
"You are useless, as expected. But don't worry, I have planned for that." He replied.
"Who are you?" I asked.
"Hm? You must be the archfey I have heard about. I am the Lord Belphestus. I will sacrifice Lilith and take her power. If you swear allegiance you may join my harem." He suggested.
Now that was just rude. But before I crushed him I did have a genuine question: "Take her power? How?"
The demon smiled and took the spear from the bleeding Sianderis. "This is a marvellous artefact. It has tasted Lilith's blood and was infused with my poison. All that is left is a ritual sacrifice and her power shall be mine. You must be weak from opening that portal. Not a lot of magic left. I could sacrifice you too, but I am not sure if I can absorb a fey's power. Want to give it a try? Or will you just surrender and serve me?"
"I think I will take that spear and shove it up your ass." I replied with a smile. Then I poured my anger into my aura and focused it on the demon lord.
I only had one tier nine spell left. But I still had one. I also had my sword and I knew how to use it. So I charged.
My aura might have slowed Belphestus, or maybe he was just surprised, but he barely dodged my first swing. It felt like he was in the first aura stage, so he was among the weaker demon lords.
A scream to my right told me Shani was engaging his guards. Good. I focused on the demon lord himself. After my initial attack he responded by opening his mouth, and exhaling a green smoke. I modified my teleport spell by pushing it two circles higher and instantly teleported back. I had no intention of finding out how well my poison resistance worked.
Once I had gained some distance I unleash a barrage of storm bolts, amplified by my aura. I would have liked to use a Storm's Judgement but I only had one tier nine slot left. For now I stuck to lower tier spells.
But I was facing a demon lord, even if he was a weaker one. The spells did some damage but they only caused minor wounds. I would need to score a good hit with my sword, or commit to my last tier nine spell.

We exchanged some blows, he was skilled with his spear but neither of us gained the upper hand. Belphestus tried a few more breath attacks but I managed to dodge them. We ended up in a stalemate. Of course, sooner or later Lucy would arrive. So far my friends were still busy with other demonic soldiers. But it was only a matter of time until they would triumph. Lucy, in her fox form, was a force of nature, even without spells.
We exchanged a few more blows and I got a better look at his spear. The weapon felt wrong. I could see the red pulsing lines on it. It felt hungry every time it came close to me. I tried to figure out its exact nature, which was not the best idea during combat. He managed to grace me with the spear on my left arm. I felt a tiny sting.
Belphestus' smirk was concerning. The drop of my blood was absorbed by the weapon and I could feel magic enter my body. It felt hungry for my magic. It reminded me of a bit of devour magic. And it made me angry.
"You have challenged the Storm. You have challenged my magic. Now you shall face my true power. DEVOUR MAGIC." I unleashed my spell at the spear. This was worthy of my last tier nine slot. The artifact that had dared to come for my power. The black smoke appeared and hungrily ate the artefact. I could feel a battle of magic. I could hear a screech.
The demon lord stared in horror at the spear in his hand. Then he started to scream. Somehow the spear began to drain the demon lord, trying to fight my spell. But it was useless. Devour Magic was not stopping.
I watched, fascinated, as the demon lord himself began to rot and decay. His power and body were eaten by his own weapon. I felt my link to the weapon through the wound. I felt desperation. Had that thing been alive? Then I felt it pleading. I felt it running. As the spear was crumbling itself the power inside tried to escape into my body. I allowed it.
Devour magic ate the remaining spear. The connection vanished but I had a weird ball of power inside myself. There was something evil in there, trying to assault my mind. It was weak and I crushed it with my will. The ball of power settled down but it did not feel quite right for me. It did not fit.
I opened my hand and let it out. A small glowing sphere hovered there. I contemplated it.
"What is that, my lady?" Lily asked. She had been battling the other demons nearby.
"I think it is the remaining power of that weapon, or demon lord. They were somehow linked." I mused.
"Are you going to consume it?" She asked.
"No. It does not feel right for me. Do you want it? Maybe it reacts better to a demon." I suggested.
Lily poked the sphere with a finger. "The demon in me seems fine with this power but the stormy part in me rejects it. I do not think it would be beneficial to our bond."
Hm. It felt right for a demon? I looked around the battlefield. All remaining enemies were trying to flee after the demon lord had fallen. Shani and Lucy were hunting them down. Things looked good so I returned to the gate.
Which had changed, slightly. Somehow our dryads roots now covered the entire gate, in hell. And the dryads were busy dragging bodies close and devouring them with said roots. I ignored that discovery for now and returned to our realm. Lily was following me.
There I found Lilith on the ground. Thessia and Erin were next to her.
Elisee was pacing nervously and approached me as soon as I arrived.
"The demon lord is weakened, we should do something!" She suggested.
I looked at the ball of glowing energy in my hand and grinned. "Oh, no worries. I have a plan."
Then I walked towards Lilith. "Hey, would you like a snack?" I asked.
The demon lord looked at me, confused. "A snack?"
"Now is not the time!" Erin complained.
"I do not know the exact nature of the poison but there seems to be a curse involved." Thessia commented.
"Oh, I have just the thing." I replied and offered her the ball of energy.
Lilith looked at my grinning face. Then at my hand. Her finger poked the ball of energy. "What…"
As she tried to talk I stuffed the energy in her mouth. I was not sure if that was the best method but I liked the idea of it being a snack. I also willed it into her.
Lilith's eyes widened but she did not resist. Her eyes began to glow. She started coughing. The wound stopped bleeding and finally closed.
"What have you done?" Erin asked, pointing a sword at me.
"Relax, your lady is fine. Look at the wound." Lily reassured her.
Erin lowered her sword.
Lilith stopped coughing and settled down. The glow from her eyes vanished. "How? Why?" She asked.
"Seemed like Belphestus had an artefact to steal power or something. He wanted to sacrifice you. That blob was what remained of him and that cursed thing. I purged whatever evil spirit was in there but had no use for the remaining power. Seemed like you could use it, bleeding all over my floor here." I replied.
Lilith stared at me. "I am in your debt…"
"Friends don't keep track of debt." I told her and offered her a hand. She took and stood up. Then she examined her healed body.
"Friend, huh? I like that. You did not simply heal me. You have increased my power." Lilith stated.
"Good. It will help keep that gate secure. And maybe teach some other demon lords a lesson. Also, you still have to introduce me to all the tasty things in hell. Can't have you lying around while such important work needs to be done." I teased.
Lilith smiled.
Elisee on the other hand looked really pale.
