Battle is a daily routine for devils, but it's not their entire life. Besides training new recruits into killing machines, devils meticulously manage all affairs of the Bronze Fortress—food, construction, goods, and most importantly, roads.
Bator Hell is an essential part of the entire Outer Plane, forming a circular ring with places like Heaven Mountain and the Mechanical Realm. If one could transcend all planes—which is of course impossible—they would find Bator Hell positioned right at six o'clock on the dial, while the little angel Soka's once-abode, Heaven Mountain, holds the ten o'clock pointer.
The Main Material Plane serves as another dial, floating above planes like Bator like a glass cover. Unlike the Outer Plane, which can be traversed on foot, movement between these planes relies on spells or teleportation gates. Countless worlds exist within the Main Material Plane, and travelers constantly arrive at the battleground of the Blood War from there. Some seek the counsel of the strong, others flee from them; but most come to gain power.
It's hard to say how many will ultimately achieve their goals, as devils never arrange tombstones for those who are "eliminated." If lucky, after tens of thousands of years, an imp scavenging the battlefield might find the corpses of the fallen; otherwise, evidence of their existence would only be found in the excrement of lemures.
However, quite a few manage to survive. Some have obtained what they wanted, while others have stirred up greater trouble and wish to leave. In any case, a gate has long been prepared here, ready to lead to other worlds—even if not directly, it can take you to a place from where you can reach your destination. As long as you can afford the toll, Piffed will help you achieve your aim; even if he's in a foul mood, he'll still fulfill your request, but might send you on a more perilous route.
This life greatly satisfies Piffed. As an Abyss Demon, he has reached the highest tier among devils, with only the Devil War Generals and the Hell Lords above him—even after billions of years, Piffed does not aspire to that rank. Now he only needs to come to this teleportation gate each day, sit quietly, and enjoy the flattery of those passing through to be happy. No need to fight on the killing fields of the Blood War or participate in the intrigues of the Abyss Demons. One could say Piffed is living his dream life.
Today, the Abyss Demon arrived early, the only form of self-discipline he currently practices. He minimizes the flames on his body to avoid harming weak passers-by or causing unnecessary trouble—after all, the customer is Asmodeus (note: King of Bator Hell, the strongest).
"Looks like my busy time today will be very short, which is wonderful." Piffed stood by the "Curse Bone Gate" teleportation gate, gently stroking its smooth surface. His enormous wings flapped twice before folding back behind him.
"Listen up, you folks back there!" He now acted like the king of the entire Hell, controlling the lives and deaths of these people: "Order, I demand order! If I catch anyone daring to disrupt the line, I'll squeeze out their intestines!"
"What if there are no intestines?" a human at the front whispered, thinking his voice wouldn't reach the Abyss Demon's ears. He was utterly wrong, though he had no time to realize his mistake. The Abyss Demon abruptly disappeared from his spot and appeared behind the man. A gust of wind was heard, and the man who dared to talk back vanished from the lands of Bator Hell.
Piffed patted his belly, satisfied, and returned to his position. "Today is a good day." He was now even more convinced of this.
Meanwhile, Lynch and Eryies were walking towards the Abyss Demon's location. Since the battle outside would still take some time to conclude, there were few people on the streets. This reminded Lynch of his hometown, where the summer heat would make it deathly quiet, with few travelers venturing out under the scorching sun. Bator Hell might not have a sun, but its stifling heat was no different from the scorching heat.
