Mage Legend

Chapter 610: Travel and Travel Beyond Chapter Seventy-Two Power_3

Sometimes, Lynch would look up from his books and gaze at the Demigod Lich not far away. From those gemstone-like yellow eyes, he seemed to increasingly understand the thoughts in the decryptor's mind. He had once listened with admiration to everything it said, those things he did not know. Just as the sun by day and the stars at night can guide the lost, those words opened new horizons for him, the eager seeker, illuminating a new world like a meteor. But similarly, the more he knew, the more desolate he felt. In this cursed world, the so-called new world was but an illusion, an unrealistic mirage.

This was exactly how the Devil Lord tormented the decryptor.

One day, the skeleton head floated in front of Lynch, actively interrupting the mage's contemplation for the first time since the two had distanced themselves. Initially, it said nothing, only under Lynch's probing gaze did the decryptor speak.

"Tomorrow marks the end of the sixth month," it said, its voice halting as if unable to control the magic that created sound. "Although I really hope you can survive, I have basically seen your end."

Lynch's face looked terrible, with prominent cheekbones, sunken eyes, and unusually unruly hair and beard. The dark circles around his eyes seemed like inherent flaws of his body, and pale skin clung tightly to his cheeks. Due to constantly maintaining a smile—a self-mocking expression—his facial muscles had become somewhat numb. No matter what he thought inside, others could only see a face that scorned everything with arrogance. Such an expression was not entirely unpleasant, rather it evoked some sympathy and pity.

"I understand," Lynch stubbornly said, "Thank you for teaching me much, and from your knowledge, I know I am indeed on the brink of collapse. It is heartbreaking, but I am powerless to stop it."

"Whatever you need, I'm not far," the Demigod Lich nodded, then shook its head, "Though... what I can offer is merely illusionary stuff."

Then, it slowly left the mage's side, stopping at a distance of twenty paces from Lynch. However, it did not look at the weak mage but turned away, allowing its bald head to block its sight.

The long night was one of those beautiful summer nights Lynch created for himself. Countless star-like gemstones flickered across the black canvas according to his imagination. But he knew this perfect scenery was just a hollow deception, able to deceive the Eye of Insight, but not his own heart.

Suddenly, stars from the sky began to fall, leaving trails like shooting stars. Instantly, the whole night sky was sliced into countless small fragments, shattered. No more twinkling objects, those stars that filled people's imaginations all fell, for they brought Lynch painful memories.

The Demigod Lich remained motionless, using the void backdrop to shield its eyes.

Lynch began memorizing numbers in his mind, hoping to unravel the world's last truths at the final moment. Endless calculations ran through the mage's mind, seemingly infinite puzzles, with truth sinking deeper as you dredge it up. Lynch thought, somewhat despairingly, "Let these things exhaust me."

"Time has come..." the decryptor sighed gently. That voice came from somewhere in the distant night sky, reminding Lynch of his late father. When the mage was young, he often heard such reprimands: "You naughty little thing, you don't play by the rules!"

Waiting for death with despair and calmness, like two giant peaks, thoroughly suppressing all other thoughts of the mage. Yet between the peaks, there must be a valley where life is nurtured. Only under tremendous pressure can dark coal turn into brilliant diamonds, and just before Lynch's life extinguished, the true spark of wisdom burst forth.

"Why do I have to find a way out of here?" he thought, "If this is a prison, there's another way to leave, to be cast out voluntarily! If the prison guard of this place won't help me, then I can alter the system here! As long as I become innocent, I can leave!"

"I'll be thoroughly naughty once more!" Lynch stood up, raised his head, and opened his arms to the sky. The Demigod Lich turned back, somewhat perplexed at what was happening on the other side.

The mage swiftly changed the scenery around him, focusing all his attention on imagination. This time, he no longer tried to create an unseen exit but to display everything he had seen. Initially, the scenes around him were merely tranquil forests, golden fields, snow-capped mountains, natural landscapes. But they switched faster and faster, with each image lingering shorter and shorter. However, Lynch's strong will maintained the accuracy and clarity of those images, and if time could stop, a bystander would still see countless beautiful pictures.

Gradually, this action left Lynch exhausted, the throbbing in his head unbearable, as if floodwaters had accumulated in the blood vessels there, ready to burst through the skull's constraints and explode. Lynch turned away from pursuing exquisite images, starting to express memories through his own colors. Lines blurred, and color blocks replaced forms. The images sped up, and in the decryptor's eyes, Lynch seemed to fall into a whirlpool made of rainbows, surrounded by all the colors in the world.

But Lynch remained motionless, his eyes turned red, yet he didn't blink. Suddenly, an extremely shocking thought struck his mind, and in a flash, it filled his head. "If this world turns to chaos, how can Asmodeus, the leader of this evil order, maintain control?"

He cast magic, halting time's flow with incredible power. And in that brief moment when everything was still, countless thoughts sprang out of his mind, all formed from doubts, confusion, and contradictions, ideas only a madman would have.

When time resumed, those spiritual powers flooded the entire space, dyeing even the void constructed by the decryptor. The Demigod Lich watched in surprise; perhaps this would be the most unsolvable puzzle for it.

Lynch only left with the words, "I am power..."

The mage suddenly vanished from this space.

The Demigod Lich was stunned for a long time before it thought to look at the place where the mage had just stood. The spatial chaos slowly settled, and the scenery gradually returned to normal. Nothing remained where Lynch had stood, as if his existence had been completely erased.

However, in the decryptor's eyes, this meant something else. It pondered for a long time, finally understanding the mystery in it. From the moment Lynch disappeared, not even the strongest True Name Power could bind the mage's fate anymore. This prison no longer knew who it held, and thus could no longer continue to confine him.

He ultimately found his own order amid absolute chaos...
