The surroundings were peaceful.
This made Wislin feel very uneasy. It shouldn't be like this! He felt as if his whole body was floating, only the pain throughout his body told him that he was still alive, but he just couldn't open his eyes. He sensed he was lying on a soft bed, with a pillow behind his head emitting a floral fragrance, covered by a thick and warm blanket.
He would rather his hard armor was still on him.
Vaguely, he heard laughter coming from outside, but he couldn't make out the language of their conversation. The last thing he could remember was falling from a high place, continuously falling, as if there was no end.
Could it be that he had been captured? The Snake-men kept him in confinement to prevent this "high-level prize" from dying, giving him preferential treatment, and then prying information from his mouth? No way, they wish! Wislin's hand habitually reached for his waist, but neither his sword nor the hidden dagger was there.
"It seems you've finally woken up. Can you hear me speaking?" Elf Anna's voice came from beside him, so close that it almost startled Wislin.
"Were you captured too?" The Paladin's voice was somewhat hoarse, and whenever he spoke, his chest hurt horribly. Though he was made a captive, at least Anna was still alive, and that was enough—Wislin couldn't help but think.
"Captured?" Anna was stunned for a moment, then gently covered her mouth and laughed, "Open your eyes and see, we won!"
But no matter what, Wislin couldn't open his eyes. He simply couldn't control the muscles in that area.
"Did the Elf reinforcements arrive? Or did the soldiers make it to the fortress?" Wislin asked in confusion, rubbing his eyes hard with his hands. "I only remember the walls had already been breached, how could it possibly be defended?"
"It was Lynch," Anna said. "Our Mage suddenly rushed into the battlefield and then eliminated all those Snake-men, not a single one was left. Including the camp at the slope, now there's nothing left but tents. Our soldiers are there cleaning the battlefield, and it seems they've gained a lot."
"Lynch? I don't understand. How could he have wiped out all the Snake-men?" Wislin lifted his eyelids, but still couldn't feel a trace of light. He sighed helplessly and said, "Up to now, my eyes are still in complete darkness. I can only hear your voice, but I just can't see you."
"Wait a moment." Anna stood up and left the room, taking a good while before returning. But this time, Lynch, Morgan, and the little angel were all following behind her. The room, which wasn't large to begin with, felt even more cramped.
"Who? Who are all these people?" Wislin struggled to sit up, his ears changing direction incessantly, trying to hear everything clearly. He heard the jingle of metal, the shuffling of arrows in a quiver, and a robe dragging on the floor. "I get it, this is a Spell! You're trying to use this method to get the information you want from me. I won't be fooled! Snake-men, I swear I will avenge my soldiers!"
"Then you'll have to seek your revenge in another world, Wislin." The Mage scrutinized the Paladin's eyes closely, then stepped a little closer and said in a calm voice, "Your eyes were already blind at the time, I've made you a new pair, but it looks like it will take some time to fully adapt."
"Ha ha, Wislin, it's a miracle you managed to cling on to life." Morgan wanted to step forward to hug the Knight, but was stopped by the Mage. The strength of a Dwarf was enough to add a few broken bones onto Wislin's already injured body. He could only stand where he was and say, "A thousand stones above, you're the luckiest guy I've ever seen. But if you dare to court death next time, I'll personally finish you off!"
"Is it really Lynch and Morgan?" Wislin reached out his hand, wanting to touch the person who was speaking. But he only grasped a pair of soft hands, with one of them wrapped in thick bandages. Elf Anna gently pressed Wislin back onto the bed and covered him with the blanket again, while the Paladin, for some reason, did not resist at all.
"Anna, don't worry. He'll be fine in a few days," Lynch said. "If he still insists on thinking we are all Snake-men, just tell him that cruel torture and severe punishment will be ready for him in five days."
