"Yes, ma'am." Eryies licked her lips, "Such things won't trouble me."
Then, the group sprang into action, the crashing roar of falling trees echoing throughout the valley, yet not a single bird was startled. Lynch's unconscious state only added to everyone's worry and fear, as except for the mage, no one knew their exact location.
Because everyone had the ability to see in the dark, even without the mage's staff for lighting, they wouldn't get lost this night. Zilvra used her Bursting Thin Sword to split large pieces of wood, while Eryies piled them up. Morgan found a bunch of leaves from the fallen treetop and spread them on the wooden platform. Lynch lay in Soka's arms, with only occasional coughing and twitching, showing no sign of waking.
Fortunately, Eryies knew how to use Lynch's Spatial Bag—her days living in Bator Hell had broadened her knowledge—otherwise, the group would have to go hungry. There were still quite a few Elf Cookies inside the bag, but Morgan and Eryies preferred to eat more regular jerky. It was only when the Desire Demon found a pot from Lynch's Spatial Bag that they decided to make some meat soup.
The lit bonfire illuminated the faces of the group; although warm, it was a warmth the skin could feel, not one that could warm their hearts. Zilvra pried open Lynch's mouth, trying to pour some meat soup into him, but without success. The magic barrier on the mage would protect him from many forms of harm, and this attempt to feed him during his unconsciousness had no effect at all.
"My spell can help conserve Lynch brother's physical strength," Soka said, biting her finger, "but, if this goes on, brother will become very weak."
"Weakness is nothing; if he starts to run a fever, that's dangerous," Eryies said. "I once saw a powerful old mage lose control of his spells because of this illness, and I was able to freely observe his dying state. It wasn't me who took his life; it was that continually rising magic power within him. In the end, he kept burning up, igniting his own body and turning into a heap of ashes."
"Don't scare our little Soka like that," Zilvra said, hugging her shivering sister, her anger evident on her face, "If you have no solution, then shut up. That pointless chatter is just wasting time."
"Who says I have no solution? Did you forget I'm a Desire Demon?" Though she said this, Eryies still wore a worried expression on her face. "Even though I have powers similar to a Banshee, for someone as powerful as Lynch, it probably won't be of any use. The magical defense on him isn't something I can break through."
Morgan sat by the bonfire, looking at the three women before him. Though he silently prayed to the Dwarf God Gunn for his friend's speedy recovery, he also resolved not to get involved in the trouble between these three women.
For three consecutive days, Lynch still showed no signs of waking, but neither did he get any worse. It was as if he was in an endless slumber, no one able to wake him from his dreams. Without the mage as their guide, the group didn't know which direction to head in, so they remained trapped here. As Zilvra said, they should avoid any disturbance to Lynch to prevent further deterioration. Morgan and Soka, apart from sighing, could only vent their anger at the endless forest around them.
"Boom! Crack!" Another large tree crashed down, as the dwarf had cut down no fewer than a hundred surrounding trees, clearing out a notable space. Carrying his hammer, he walked back with steady footsteps. "How long is this guy Lynch going to sleep? Is he just going to leave us stranded here?"
"Quiet, Red Beard!" Zilvra quickly covered Morgan's mouth, whispering, "Did you hear something?"
The dwarf widened his eyes and quickly perked up his ears. Whether it was due to being naturally a bit slow or because his full beard affected his hearing, Morgan could only shake his head.
Soka flew down from the sky, and with her was Eryies. The two had been responsible for keeping watch near the camp, and their current demeanor suggested something was happening. Soka pointed to one end of the forest clearing and said, "There are some people coming from that direction!"
