My Favorite Game Followed Me!

Chapter 600

Anton and all of the male members of his squad, except for Captain Leonard, entered one of the taverns near their barracks. They ordered their drinks and when they arrived, started drinking to relax. They talked about the situation in the place near the West Wall. Even though the people were still behaving somewhat normally, they saw that there was desperation in the people's every action.

Another thing they noticed was that there were no children in that place. The table beside theirs, who were mostly soldiers, mentioned that all families that were living near the west wall had relocated to other parts of the kingdom.

Even though the Undead Coalition only started the siege of the kingdom of Mendoza's West Wall just three weeks ago, it felt to all of them, not just to Anton, that every person in that place already accepted that war would be a part of their lives.

Anton felt a little sad about that. The kingdom of Mendoza was beautiful. Its gigantic walls were majestic, intimidating, and full of authority. At least the East Wall looked like that. Anton assumed that the West Wall was probably looking dilapidated on the outside, even though the wizards of Mendoza were doing their very best to make sure the walls remained sturdy in the face of the undead's relentless attacks.

According to Charlie, Mendoza was surrounded by large fields of produce teeming with life, and now the only fields that continued to survive were the ones located in the East. Even the farmers of the fields near the south and north walls of the kingdom started relocating to the East of the kingdom.

Thankfully, New Drennor and Ormunda fully supported Mendoza and started concrete plans to make sure that food was constantly supplied to the besieged kingdom.

"Of course, New Drennor and Ormunda wanted to make sure that Mendoza remained standing. If Mendoza fell, the next city that the undead would probably attack is New Drennor, since it was nearer," Charlie said.

Even though the tavern was full of people who were a mix of soldiers and civilians, there was no chaos. Mendoza's authorities were making sure that everyone followed the rules they had set up. The kingdom did not want chaos behind their lines, and they were doing everything in their power to make sure of that. According to the soldier in the next table, even petty crimes were punished harshly by the authorities.

After a couple of drinks, Charlie reminded everyone that none of them could afford to get drunk on their first shift, so instead of constantly drinking, they busied themselves talking.

Anton's squad returned to the barracks assigned to them to rest at around eight in the evening, and after a round of cleaning spells cast by Anton and Charlie, everyone slept.

At around one hour before midnight, Captain Leonard woke everyone up. After their preparations, all of them went to the section of the west wall where they were assigned. When they arrived there, each two members of the squad would shadow a veteran soldier while Captain Leonard would shadow a veteran captain.

In their section of the wall, there was a door that could fit a couple of men. That door was guarded by several soldiers. Long-range attackers would exit through the wall using the said door and would climb the allure located nearer the ground. Using those allures, the long-range attackers would be able to reach the undead that would try to attack the walls, since the top of the walls was where the wizards who had spells that could reach extremely far and war machines with very long range were located.

The melee fighters would gather behind fortifications constructed near the walls and would attack the undead. If melee attackers got wounded, they would then run inside the fortification to be healed by healers.

At first, Anton was assigned to the upper part of the wall. When he declined, he was then reassigned to an allure, but he said to his captain that he would prefer to be assigned in melee range so he could use his spells against the undead more effectively.

A Supreme Wizard assigned to their wall section appeared and told Captain Leonard that he had read the profiles of every member of his squad. Anton would be assigned to one of the parapets since it had a magic array that would allow spells to be cast at extremely long range. Since, according to Anton's profile, he could cast powerful spells, the magic array would allow him to cast his spells with an exaggerated long range, especially since the profile mentioned that Anton could cast spells nonstop, which was very rare.

Captain Leonard, of course, agreed with the Supreme Wizard named Pudonis, and the wizard led Anton to the parapet. The parapet's design was simple. The wizard who would cast the spells would simply stand in the middle of the circle array, and he or she would be able to see the view outside in their section of the wall. Then the wizard in the array would simply cast his or her spells, and the spell would manifest above and would be hurled towards the attackers.

Once the array was activated, it had to be supported by around one hundred low-level mana stones per day, but it would depend on the quantity of spells that the assigned wizards on the parapet would cast.

"Does this mean that I can cast my large area of effect spells?" Anton asked the Supreme Wizard Pudonis.

"Just make sure that your spells do not reach our melee defenders. You should be able to see everything beneath our section of the walls," The supreme wizard said.

Based on Anton's understanding, he could only cast spells where the center was not his body. That meant no Hurricane or Armageddon from the Druid's skill tree.

Supreme Pudonis then commanded Anton to place himself in the center of the array. He saw that around 10 wizards were sitting inside the room overlooking the parapet, and all of them had their heads inside their grimoires. During attacks, a wizard would enter the array and cast all of his spells using and once he was empty, he would be replaced by a wizard that was inside the room, and then the one who emptied his or her mind of their spells would use the downtime to memorize their spells again to be able to cast them again once it was their turn.

According to Supreme Pudonis, a high wizard or an archmage assigned to the parapets with the long-range magic array would be able to last 30 to 45 minutes of spell casting before they needed to be replaced.

Anton was flabbergasted at the information the Supreme Pudonis shared with him.

"How long does an attack last?" Anton asked.

"Every night starting around seven in the evening, the undead would usually attack for four to five hours. Then they would retreat. After two hours, they would attack again for four to five hours. So they attack twice every night."

"How many undead did the Coalition bring to this continent?! How come they were not running out of attackers?" Anton exclaimed.

"It's confirmed that the coalition constructed a two-way portal from Rendindura to here. We also think that they have the capability of recycling the undead if they manage to retrieve the corpses," Supreme Pudonis said, and Anton could detect a sense of fatigue from the wizard, but it could just be his imagination.

A loud alarm sounded from somewhere, which, based on everyone's reactions, was expected. Supreme Pudonis instructed Anton to place himself inside the magic array and quickly told him more information on what he needed to do to utilize the array. The moment Anton entered the array, he could immediately see the situation outside. He was astounded at the large army that was coming in from somewhere to the west.
