The Fragment Of Armour took the form of a small bronze-coloured cube. The texture of the fragment was somewhat reminiscent of metal but still allowed the flickering orange-yellow light of the campfire in front of Jon to pass through it.
The flames gave the Fragment Of Armour an almost golden tint to it. Although the weight of a single fragment was inconsequential, even compared to a normal gemstone, the Fragment Of Armour possessed a substance that did not quite seem to fit the image of other fragments Jon had seen before.
As if the density of the Fragment Of Armour was greater in comparison to other fragments.
In contrast, the Fragment Of Invidia was a dull green colour. It was not particularly noteworthy when placed beside the Fragment Of Armour, and holding it up to the campfire, Jon could see that the fragment did not allow light to pass through it, as if preventing its luminescence to shining beyond itself.
"Jon, place the Fragment Of Ira beside the Fragment Of Invidia," Ashvattha Rana suggested, causing Jon to raise an eyebrow before reaching down onto the sands beside him and placing the wrathful, crimson-coloured fragment beside the dull green one.
The exact moment the Fragment Of Ira came into contact with the Fragment Of Invidia, the latter started glistening with sinful, yet lustrous green light. Even without holding it up to the light of the campfire, the Fragment Of Invidia turned green with envy, obscuring the wrathful light of the Fragment Of Ira beside it.
It was not just Jon that showed a look of surprise at this, Wilheim, Sariel and Shamael peered at the reaction caused by the Fragment Of Ira and Fragment Of Invidia, the floresiensis showing a thoughtful expression as he examined each fragment using [With Eyes That Pierce Through The White Winter Plain].
"Fragments that bear the name of a sin or virtue produce unique effects when in physical contact with one another. It does not have any bearing on the ability that manifests after integration, but it is quite an interesting sight nonetheless," said Ashvattha Rana, watching Jon as he pulled the Fragment Of Ira away, back into backpack.
Jon would not lie and say that he was completely disinterested in the Fragment Of Ira, especially after integrating the Fragment Of Avaritia. Although Jon did not have an affinity with the fragment that embodied the concept of wrath, he did feel a sense of yearning within his chest, while holding the Fragment Of Invidia in his hand.
[With Thou In Hand, Even War Will Be Dyed Yellow] was an extraordinarily useful ability. The degree of compatibility his Fragment Of Avaritia had with his Fragment Of Prana and Fragment Of Incarnation was beyond anything Jon could had ever hoped for.
The effectiveness of [Green Is The Flesh, As Red Is The Blood] was also increased by his Yaochi-Jade Prana, which was something else that Jon had forgot to factor in when calculating his mana regeneration.
"Are you planning on integrating both the Fragment Of Armour and Fragment Of Avaritia into your two remaining Mana Cores Jon?" Ashvattha Rana asked, causing the young human to lift up his head, humming for a few seconds before shrugging his shoulders.
"I was thinking about it. With the sheer number of fragments I have in my possession, choosing not to integrate at least a couple of them would be an absolute waste," said Jon, rolling the Fragment Of Invidia between his knuckles.
"You a handful of Mortal Title Fragments that you have yet to claim as well. Perhaps you should take a look at them before doing anything further?" Ashvattha Rana advised, watching as Jon nodded his head, opening several of his notifications and scrolling through them until he found the ones that he was looking for.
Jon had in his possession a total of seven Mortal Title Fragments. Although he could have integrated six of them together and formed a complete Mortal Title, he refrained from doing so, waiting until he accumulated a greater number of Mortal Title Fragments to construct his complete Title from.
Mortal Title Fragment "Pathstrider": Increases the compatibility between oneself and their integrated Mana Cores associated spiritual energy.
Mortal Title Fragment "Killer": Increases all physical capabilities for a short duration after killing an enemy. This effect does not stack with itself.
'This one would have been useful to have active during the fight with those goblins', Jon could not help but think to himself.
Mortal Title Fragment "Adept": Reduces mana expenditure of abilities whose mastery exceeds your current Rank.
Mortal Title Fragment "Sui Generis": Increases the effectiveness of all abilities with the Self Trait.
Mortal Title Fragment "Mutare Dominus": Increases the effectiveness of all abilities with the Mutation Trait.
'This is the one Mortal Title Fragment that I will integrate, regardless of what combination of other Title Fragments I choose to use', thought Jon.
Mortal Title Fragment "Maestro": Increases the control an individual possesses over their integrated Mana Cores spiritual energy.
'This one is a close second', Jon added on.
Mortal Title Fragment "Ortus": Increases the presence and strengthens the relationship between an individual and their Source.
Focusing on the three specific notifications that Jon had noticed earlier, the eighteen-year-old could see that his fight with the Malum Goblins had earned him an additional three Mortal Title Fragments.
Although two of them had nothing to do with the actual fight itself.
Mortal Title Fragment "Ariya": Increases the likelihood of obtaining enlightenment.
Mortal Title Fragment "Voyager": Increases the effectiveness of all abilities with the Ability Trait.
Mortal Title Fragment "Virtuoso": Increases the control an individual possesses over the spiritual energy released outside the body.
Stolen from its rightful place, this narrative is not meant to be on Amazon; report any sightings.
Mortal Title Fragment "Invictus": Increases resistances towards pain during combat.
After reading the short effect descriptions of the Mortal Title Fragments out loud, Jon noticed both Titus Claudius and Ru Luan Di stir from the motionless positions. Jon sent the little ginseng king, and the chevalier fire swarm beetle a not-so-subtle glance but earned no response from the two summoned companions.
The fact that Jon had obtained the Mortal Title Fragment Ariya, meant that the human had experienced some nascent form of enlightenment while still a Mortal. Although in the grand scheme of things, individuals experienced some varying forms of enlightenment each day across the integrated universes, it was not something that wealth or a powerful background could ever guarantee.
With the addition of Ariya, Voyager, Virtuoso, and Invictus, Jon was now in possession of a total of eleven Mortal Title Fragments. The number of combinations and variations he could produce had expanded significantly, to the point where Jon was considering forming a complete Mortal Title on the spot.
"You have your mind set on Mutare Dominus and Maestro correct? Then might I recommend combining them with Voyager and Ariya? The former is a powerful all-round enhancement to numerous abilities, including your Mutation Trait abilities, while the latter increases the likelihood of my third effect activating," said Ashvattha Rana, rustling her leaves and branches with a slight nod.
Jon hummed a little, thinking for a few moments about the suggestion, before nodding his head, agreeing with the bodhi tree.
"Voyager is the obvious choice. And even if the possibility is infinitesimally small, Ariya would increase the likelihood of obtaining enlightenment to a certain degree. Although I find myself leaning towards Killer and Invictus as the final two Title Fragments, the combination of Ortus and Pathstrider might prove to be the better option," Jon muttered to himself, tapping his chin as he gazed at the eleven Mortal Title Fragments in front of him.
'There is always the chance that I can form another complete Title after obtaining a Memento Source Fragment. Schwarz Eis' Memento Source Fragment, Licht Weiss tied itself to her Title as White Lady Of The Winter Castle. Perhaps I should wait just a little bit longer before forming a complete Title…' Jon scrunched up his face in thought, letting out a sigh as he dismissed all of the System notifications in front of him.
Instead of focusing on Title Fragments, Jon was much more interested in what manner of fragment he should integrate into his Spear Mana Core and War Mana Core. The former possessed only two remaining slots after integrating both the Fragment Of Eradication and Fragment Of Weapon.
While the War Mana Core still possessed four empty slots, having integrated the Fragment Of Stealth and Fragment Of Avaritia into them.
Once Jon integrated his sixth Mana Core and became a Mortal of the Sixth Initiation, he would have a total of twelve remaining slots across three different Mana Cores. His final Mana Core had to be chosen with care, or at the very least, integrated with fragments that promoted synergy with his other abilities.
'Perhaps I should have a glance at the task rewards I have yet to claim before going further," Jon thought to himself.
Jon knew that he had completed a couple of different tasks, although was not quite sure whether or not he had completed any of the mandatory tasks. Those thirteen tasks that required completion before the end of the System Introduction were the ones that granted the opportunity to obtain Mana Cores of his choice.
Jon would not settle for anything less, on this, he refused to budge.
Opening the task reward page, Jon examined which new tasks he had completed.
Tasks not required before completion of System Introduction.
[7]: Obtain a total of one hundred Fragments. Individuals shall receive a reward of their choice upon the completion of this task.
[9]: Obtain a total of ten Mana Cores. Individuals shall receive a set reward upon the completion of this task.
[11]: Obtain more than ten Mortal Title Fragments. Individuals shall receive a reward of their choice upon the completion of this task.
[35]: Defeat one System generated denizen of the small realm. Individuals shall receive a set reward upon the completion of this task.
Jon showed an uncharacteristically displeased expression as he gazed at the System tasks that he completed. Although the completion of four optional system tasks brought with it numerous rewards, the fact that he had not completed another mandatory system task annoyed him to no end.
After enlightenment, Jon could feel that his control over numerous different abilities had grown substantially, several even reaching a similar level of control as [Mine Is The Sea Of Knowledge]. His ability to control and manipulate spiritual energy outside of his physical body had even exceeded his ability to control spiritual energy within himself.
Jon understood the differences between Techniques, Spells and Enhancements. Although what an "Ability" entailed still eluded him, Jon felt as though he was getting closer and closer towards comprehending that little tidbit of information.
The formation of methodologies relating to mastering his physical form had come quite a long way. Jon had started to form a unique coherence between the responsiveness of his senses and instincts, and the explosive power behind his muscles and tendons. He found himself moving with a degree of finesse that did not quite exist beforehand, his stride and gait measured, prepared to strike at any given moment.
The other remaining tasks either required Jon to ascend from Mortality to Knighthood or further explore the small realm in search of Dungeons or the various Wonders that were obscured across the inversed world.
There was still over nine hundred days left on the timer before the end of the System Introduction. More than enough time to explore the reaches of small realm designated number 732-GFS.
Scratching the back of his head, Jon accepted the rewards for the ninth and thirty-fifth optional tasks. Two gemstones manifested themselves in the space above his palm, both attracting the eyes of all his other companions.
Fragment Of "Eyes" discovered.
Fragment Of "Spider" discovered.
Jon once again scrunched up his face, immediately depositing the Fragment Of Eyes and Fragment Of Spider into the safety of his backpack. Considering Jon had already possessed [Eyes Through The Looking Glass], the Fragment Of Eyes was worthless for him, and the Fragment Of Spider did not appeal that much to the eighteen-year-old.
Letting out a small sigh, Jon cradled the Fragment Of Invidia and Fragment Of Armour in the pal of his hand, looking down at the bright bronze jewel and dull green gemstone. Jon did not want to integrate them both right this moment, given how few slots remained between his two Spear Mana Core and War Mana Core.
After his battle with the Malum Goblins, Jon had grown to appreciate the benefits of Archetype Green and Archetype Avarice. The two pseudo-independent spiritual constructs saved his life numerous times over with their ability to "claim" and transfer debuffs and afflictions away from himself.
'On the other hand… having both Assail and Luin brings an incredible amount of versatility to my combat style. Two spears. One for close-quarters combat and the other for ranged offensive attacks'.
'Other than [Temperance Of Green, Imperial Wood Barrier] I lack defensive measures. The Fragment Of Armour would remedy this weakness, perhaps even granting me an even greater measure of strength in close-combat', Jon thought to himself, nodding all the while.
It would reduce the chances of him getting wounded, subsequently reducing the amount of wood natured spiritual energy Jon would have to flow into his Fragment Of Regeneration.
Jon smiled, convincing himself and selecting his War Mana Core to integrate his Fragment Of Armour into. There was a pause of approximately seventy seconds between the moment he accepted the integration notice and when the effect description appeared in front of him.
[Fragment Of Armour] [Behold Thy Heretical Armour, Adorned In Chalk Light] (War, Armour, Summon, Defensive, Shield, Buff)
