Secret Records of the Leader of the Beichen Sword Sect

Chapter 348: Lingwu (Part 3)

Huangfu Yi also clasped his fists and bowed.

Mr. Feng Sr. scratched his head,

"Hey, you're being all formal, are you performing an opera? Go, cook some rice to eat."

Huangfu Yi didn't say much, he skillfully lit a fire in the military stove, cooked the rice he had, and added a few pieces of loin meat, cut from the Wolf Demon.

Mr. Feng Sr. saw that he knew how to start a fire and put out the flames after cooking the meat porridge, nodded and took the bowl,

"You're young and have some skills, so why stay in this godforsaken place like Lingwu?

If you're joining the army, head south. You might even earn a name for yourself."

Huangfu Yi, having mingled with those old Border Army soldiers in the village, replied familiarly,

"In these troubled times, we just go with the flow, living and dying by the day, nothing is certain, what's the point of yearning for riches?

It's just about having a steel knife at my side, armor to protect my body, and a military leader for shelter, so as not to attract thieves' attention."

Mr. Feng Sr. nodded,

"You do see things clearly, do you know what the Eagle Patrol does?"

"Patrolling the wilderness, scouting and spying, sneaking into camps."

Mr. Feng Sr. was curious,

"What, have you done this before?"

"My dad taught me. As for specifics, I ask for your guidance, Mr. Feng Sr."

Seeing the kid was smart, and offering good meat, Mr. Feng Sr. was pleased,

"You have self-awareness, maybe you'll live longer. But there are a few things you should know.

Lingwu is in a border town, the southern vassal regions rely on us to block the demon army's front. No one dares come here for miles around.

So now, what we Eagle Patrols scout for are not humans, but demons."

"Please tell me in detail, Mr. Feng Sr."

Huangfu Yi served him another bowl of meat porridge.

Feng Sr. nodded, holding a bowl in one hand and drawing on the ground with the other,

"In a mountain valley to the south, there's an ancient battlefield, corpses piled as high as mountains, graves everywhere, countless Corpse Ghosts. Decades ago, a Skull Ghost King emerged, trying to open some Yin Yang Ghost Realm. The old Daoist destroyed its Dharma Body, its head pressed under a stone. We must check daily to ensure the talisman on the stone isn't removed.

To the west in the mountains, there's a Demon Path. Who knows what Evil Technique they're practicing, believing in some Demon Lord, causing ghostly cries night and day, it harmed countless people back then, also suppressed by the old Daoist. Now, a monument stands halfway up the mountain, and a rope seals the road. As long as the monument doesn't bleed and the rope isn't broken, it's fine.

To the north in the river there's a Flipping River Demon Dragon that gained essence, said to have come from the north of Yin Mountain back in the day, capable of devouring half a city in a day and night. An old Daoist cut it in half and pinned it at the river bottom with a Dragon-locking Pillar. Look for a well in the North City Suburbs, check if the Dragon-Trapping Lock at the well bottom is still secure.

To the east lies a forest where a village used to be, now occupied by a band of rebels. There's a white-headed raccoon cat in the forest, leaping and devouring people. Though the Daoist says this demon, though a great menace, is actually summoned by military disasters. It eats less than five hundred people a year, nothing more than a big beast. If it's removed, it might cause harm to the villagers hiding in the mountains, so it's left alone.

These three sealing sites of demons are closest to Lingwu Pass City, they must be patrolled every night. If a seal breaks, immediately ignite the fire talisman to alert the Immortal, so the old Daoist can clean up the mess."

Huangfu Yi was stunned, "The old... Immortal you mentioned, could he be a master of the Emei Sect?"

Mr. Feng Sr. laughed coldly,

"Who else but them? Most of the world's Immortals are selfish, enjoying the Tribute while disappearing in times of trouble.

Only the Emei Sect stands apart, loving to meddle. Besides them, who else would care about this backwater place's trivial matters?

If that old man didn't instruct it, who would willingly venture into mountain ravines every night, checking bird-brain seals."

"I see... Truly a model of the Righteous Path..."

"Alright, tonight it's our turn to patrol these three Sealing Demon Lands, as for tomorrow night's place, we'll decide tomorrow."

"What, there's tomorrow night too??"

But Mr. Feng Sr. was full and satisfied, patted his rear, and lay down again,

"What do you think, better get some sleep, you may not even survive tonight, no need to worry about tomorrow night's matters."
