Infernal Apocalypse [ LitRPG , Non-Human Lead, Lots and lots of Fire ]

200. Qi and Travel (Book Three)

I didn't dwell too long on the notifications or the Interface. That would come later.

For now I needed to finish things up in this City and then return home. I received the submission from their City Lord, but I needed to make sure things would stay that way even after I leave.

I have no idea how rebellions worked now that I'm officially the Planetary Lord of Earth, but I don't have plans to find out.

"Vrusha, reports on the City and their people."

Since he was a Nascent Soul cultivator, he could stay in here and communicate with anyone in range as needed, without moving. And it wasn't even worth mentioning how wide his range was as someone in the Nascent Soul realm.

"The City is quite stable Patriarch. In terms of food, lodging and safety there aren't any major holes. The current City Lord is the only Core Formation cultivator, but there are roughly 500 Peak Qi Refinement cultivators.

"Which seems slightly abnormal in comparison to other Cities we've been to."

I definitely raised an eyebrow at that.

500 people at the Peak of Qi Refinement? That wasn't a small amount.

Not be a long shot.

Not for one City.

"Continue."

"It is believed the reason for their rapid advancement is the Qi Spring located to the rear of the City."

Hm, that's a term I haven't read or heard about just yet.

"What's a Qi Spring?"

I feel like I spotted a twinkle in the eyes of Vrusha for the briefest of moments after I asked that question.

"A Qi Spring is essentially an area that is so rich in concentrated Qi, that it liquidizes. This concentration of Qi, if handled carefully, can quickly advance the cultivation of those in the mortal realm even without refinement."

Those in the mortal realm huh.

"Does that include you?"

"It does Patriarch."

A resource that can benefit those at the Nascent Soul.

Interesting.

"Well let's pay it a visit then."

It didn't take very long to find ourselves standing before a simple looking building. The building wasn't very big, didn't have any windows, and had a very simply door.

Though, that's where the simplicity ended.

I couldn't tell what it was made out of at all, even after touching it. It was clearly more than wood, but it didn't feel like metal, stone, or even plastic…and it was warm to the touch.

This story is posted elsewhere by the author. Help them out by reading the authentic version.

Anyway, the two people guarding the entrance to the building opened the doors for us, and we were led inside by none other than the City Lord and his attendant.

The only thing inside the building was a staircase.

One that led down, deep into the Earth for about a mile and it was only once I started walking down that staircase that I could finally feel the concentration of Qi coming from deep below.

The type of concentration that carried a weight to it.

A weight that I could feel clearly.

We continued moving down the stairs until it finally ended in a small cave, and what I saw was beautiful.

In the center of the small cave, was a small pond no more than a few feet wide, filled with most enticing liquid I have ever laid my eyes on. It was white, pure white yet it was also black, and blue, and a few colors that I'm positive I've never seen before.

It was all of them at once, yet only one of them at the same time.

"Do not get greedy Lord Raizen. If your not able to handle the power contained in but a sip of the substance before you, then you will die."

The voice of the attendant pulled my eyes away from the substance and on to her.

She took that as que to continue speaking.

"City Lord Lenny isn't our first Core Formation Cultivator of the North Pole. There was another before him, who used the substance to reach Core Formation relatively quickly, but when he tried to do the same thing once more, his body quite literally worked itself to death trying to contain something it couldn't.

"And this is not mentioning the amount of people with lower cultivations that died trying to do the same thing."

Well it makes sense that nothing is truly free.

I'll talk to Vrusha about it later, not here. Anyway, it makes sense why so many of them have reach the Peak of Qi Refinement now. I don't think this makes them look any less impressive because receiving benefits that others hadn't were apart of life.

What makes the difference is how you take advantage of whatever hand your dealt with and whatever opportunities come your way if any at all.

"For now, don't let anyone else drink of it. We'll be back."

After saying that, I gathered up the Infernals and began the trek home. We had to cross one more body of water before we returned to the winter wonderland that was located in the north east part of our continent.

Not too long later and I was once again back in my very own bed laying down after a nice long shower.

I had put off meeting with Richard and anyone else for that matter since I simply wanted to lay down.

Technically I had no need for a shower or even sleeping but there was something about laying down lazily after a long shower that just felt right after a long trip.

One that literally took me around the world.

I saw and met pretty much what remained of Earth, in terms of population. It was still a far cry form where we were before the System reached us, but overall there were a lot of humans left.

Plus there was still plenty of exploration to do, since I didn't explore every nook and cranny there was and only concentrated on finding the other Cities. I'm sure there were humans somehow living outside of those Cities too.

Especially since I never caught wind of the boys and Elder Zal even once.

Not that I was desperately searching, but I never saw the type of place that the Ash Guard described to me.

I knew I had the ability to discern the boy's location if I just pulled on the connection I know shared with them, but I wanted to avoid that if possible. It wouldn't feel right just infringing on their autonomy like that without proper reason.

Moving on, I'm still looking forward to just running around the world without a specific goal in mind one day and exploring all that there is to know about this Planet of ours.

Fighting powerful monkeys, taming wild horses, exploring a forest of death, having more dinners with an Immortal super model mermaid, and so much more.

And I smiled slightly just thinking about it all.

A smile that stayed present on my face when I considered how much easier it just became to do all of that.

That was because one of the many features I unlocked with my new position was the ability to create portals between all 13 Cities.

I'm Richard is going to want to put a tax on their use.

I'll have to make sure it isn't anything too crazy, I want people to be able to travel around the Planet freely.

After taking one last look at my status, I dismissed it and forced myself to sleep. It'll be back to work for a while once I woke.
