The Lich of Glory Knight Spirit: Moving towards Krimasha!

Chapter 3: The Knight of White City (Part 3)

The sunlight spilled onto the earth, marking the arrival of a new day.

The birds chirped loudly, while a woman in an apron carelessly splashed water from a basin into the alley, flowing through the cracks in the stone bricks into the gutter.

Erwin, leading his horse, stood upright in light armor at his front door.

Bart stood before him, giving careful instructions: "You must take this seriously, understand? No matter what task the Duke assigns you, you cannot refuse. If it's really dangerous, you can ask her to deploy some people, but you absolutely cannot refuse. Make the most of this opportunity. Got it?"

Saying this, Bart reached out to straighten Erwin's collar.

"Got it, Father. I will." Erwin sighed, looking up and taking a deep breath.

Yes, Erwin wore light armor, but underneath he had on a shirt, which made him feel quite uncomfortable.

Would a knight wear a shirt under light armor?

Maybe some do, but certainly not a proper knight. Anyone trained as a knight would know that this attire is not suitable for combat.

Of course, it could be a proper knight but with a not-so-proper father.

"If you excel and the Duke insists on giving you something, like a territory, not in the capacity of a loyal subject but as a gift, don't refuse it either."

"Got it, my father."

"Alright, I've said what I needed to say." Wobbling his chubby frame, Bart patted Erwin heavily on the shoulder, "You can do it, my child. I believe in you! Go on! Your true life begins now!"

Standing nearby, Cadina joined in, waving her fists: "Go on!"

Oh, not just Cadina; a large crowd of neighbors gathered around, with people peeking out from second-floor windows along the street, all cheering and applauding enthusiastically for Erwin.

Erwin's scalp tingled.

Overnight, his father had spread the news of him going to serve Yilin across the whole street. Now, Erwin wasn't just the hope of the entire village, but at least the hope of this street.

"I told you Erwin could do it, didn't I? When he stole peanuts from my house as a child, I never blamed him because I thought he had a bright future ahead! For a kid to know how to steal peanuts at such a young age, can you say that child has no future?"

"I think so too. When he threw stones at my house as a kid, I didn't blame him either!"

"I've known him since he wore open-crotch pants; I always believed that one day he would become a knight! I swear!"

"I didn't even laugh at him when his mom hung out his pee-soaked sheets to dry!"

"Only that one-eyed old man who refused to marry his daughter to him has no vision!"

"No! I, I, was just trying to motivate him to improve! If he still wants to marry her now, I can have my daughter divorce right away and then marry him!"

Yeah, the whole street was out, a dense crowd following behind Erwin, all chattering about Erwin's past... in an exuberant way.

Such an encounter isn't something everyone has. Erwin's pace slowed, his face flushed.

Finally, he reached the corner of the street, unable to endure it any longer, mounted his warhorse with a turn, and galloped away without looking back.

Yeah, from afar, he could still hear the cheers of the neighbors.

Alright, with such a commotion, it shouldn't take until evening for people on the next street to hear about it...

Erwin was almost on the brink of fainting.

Sometimes Erwin wondered, do all great knights have such a group of relatives and friends behind them?

Hmm... maybe he would never become a great knight, after all, for now, he thought the greatest knight was Gray. To aspire to be like Gray, he clearly wasn't confident enough.

After walking two streets, he finally calmed down, muttering to himself, "Is this how my life as a knight begins? The young knight picks up his sword, embarking on a journey, chasing the beauty in the distance."

Pulling out the longsword at his waist, he held it high over his head, examining it in the sunlight as he rode, "What task will she assign me? Will it be an adventure far from home? I have no experience, but I like such tasks."

"Please make way!"

"Okay!" Erwin quickly sheathed the longsword and backed up his horse.

A middle-aged man pushing a cart walked past him and went away.

Watching from afar at the middle-aged man's bald head, Erwin suddenly felt a bit uneasy.

"Please make way!"

"Oh! Sure!" Erwin continued to back up his horse.

An old lady holding her granddaughter's hand walked past him.

A soldier nearby glanced at him and complained, "If you're going to leave, hurry up. If you're waiting for someone, please wait by the roadside. Is it fun blocking the street while on horseback?"

Helplessly, Erwin had no choice but to ride forward.

Life is sometimes just this strange. On the street where Erwin lived, everyone's eyes were focused on him. But once he left familiar surroundings, he was just nobody. As ordinary as a passerby.

You must admit, ordinariness is the main tone of this world.

"Hmm... alright, maybe I was overthinking. She'll probably just assign me the task of training new soldiers. To have a legendary life, one must first encounter legendary events, while most events are just mundane daily affairs. I will be a mediocre knight, without an official title, without land, without a salary... until I grow old and die."
