"Drowning in the Pacific, and you can still recite your lines?" Jiutiao Meijie asked.
"Jack and Rose first had joy, then death. I just 'died' at Ochazuke and then got to be happy with you. Naturally, I can keep talking."
"I haven't even asked you yet, what were you doing at Ochazuke with a stun gun, a high-powered flashlight, a voice recorder, and a folding knife?"
"It's a bit embarrassing but, I was there to save you."
"Honestly, I forgive you for everything."
"I really was there to save you."
Jiutiao Meijie opened her eyes, tilted her head, and looked into Dubian Che's face, "How did you know I would be in danger?"
"My soul told me," Dubian Che replied.
"You're not lying to me?"
"If I lie to you, may I sink to the bottom of this Pacific Ocean and be eaten by the fishes. I have nothing left to hide from you."
"Why would your soul tell you about me?"
"Not sure, maybe it's fate that we be together," Dubian Che laughed.
Jiutiao Meijie looked at him, reached out her hand, and lifted his wet bangs.
She closely looked into Dubian Che's eyes, and he looked into hers.
Their pale faces drew close, and on her soft lips, Dubian Che tasted the saltiness of the sea.
The two whispered to each other while the other three also enjoyed their tranquil moments.
There was a rope between the float and the yacht, so drifting off didn't matter, no need to worry about floating away when opening their eyes.
"I just had a bit of steak at noon, and after swimming for so long, I'm a bit hungry," Mrs. Jiutiao said, her hand on her smooth, flat stomach.
"Me too," Mrs. Kiyono, lying on her daughter's inflatable bed, said in a girlish, naive tone, "I'm hungry."
"I feel like having barbecue," Mrs. Jiutiao declared.
"We could just grill it on the deck, and after it's done, bring it over here on the inflatable bed. Oh right, and remember the beer," Mrs. Kiyono requested.
"I want red wine, um—the bottle on the far right from the wine cabinet, '66 Château Margaux," Mrs. Jiutiao suggested.
"Who will do the grilling?"
"The one with the most strength, I guess."
"A guy, then."
The two glamorous Mrs. Jiutiao and Mrs. Kiyono, went back and forth with their phrases.
Dubian Che pulled his tongue back from Jiutiao Meijie's mouth and shouted with a laugh:
"Just saying 'Dubian, be smart, do it yourself' is fine too!"
The two ladies laughed heartily while Kiyono Youko happily splashed water in the direction of Dubian Che with her palms.
Jiutiao Meijie looked discontentedly at the pair and then said to Dubian Che:
"Darling, I want grilled lamb chops."
"Aren't you joining me?"
"Even if it's not tasty, I won't divorce you."
"Let's get married first."
After swimming a few strokes to the deck, Dubian Che climbed up, soaked with sea.
"Dubian Che student," Kiyono Lin said like a sunbathing lazy cat on the inflatable bed, "besides beer and wine, remember to place some juice in the ice bowl."
"I don't know how to operate the juicer," Dubian Che replied.
"One kiwi with 330ml of apple juice, 80ml of pineapple."
"I told you, I can't use the juicer, what's the point of telling me a formula?"
"Just press the start button, and that's it," Kiyono Lin explained, "Can you use a measuring cup? Need me to teach you?"
"That, I can handle."
"How smart," Kiyono Lin praised.
"Thank you, so are you."
After quickly wiping himself down, Dubian Che was about to enter the cabin when Jiutiao Meijie called from behind him:
"Go take a shower to rinse off, otherwise you'll be all salty later."
"Use it for the barbecue?"
"Don't talk disgusting."
"Weird," Dubian Che noted, "We definitely swallowed a bit of seawater, so why wouldn't the salt on my body be okay? Are you disgusted by me?"
"It's toxic."
"Understood," Dubian Che nodded, "It was thoughtless of me. But rest assured, even though I could technically extract edible salt from seawater, I still..."
"Including salt, all the seasonings are in the kitchen cabinet," Mrs. Kiyono reminded.
"Stop flirting, I'm so hungry, please hurry up, Captain," Mrs. Jiutiao urged.
Dubian Che got the charcoal burning, then darted back to the room for a quick shower and changed into fresh, clean clothes.
Back on the second deck, he started by preparing the juice according to the formula given by God Kiyono. He then took the '66 Château Margaux from the wine cabinet and fetched the beer from the fridge.
He placed the juice and drinks in a bucket filled with ice, getting ready for the barbecue.
The servant had already prepared the ingredients in the fridge, which could now be directly grilled.
A few more cups and utensils were taken, using a large rectangular tray to carry all the prepared items back to the aft deck.
By then, the charcoal was almost ready.
The ladies had found an extra-large inflatable bed and placed it at the edge of the deck.
Dubian Che handed them juices and wine.
"Thanks, Captain!" Mrs. Kiyono said with a smile as she caught them.
"Captain, could you also bring some ice cream and big bottles of freshly squeezed orange and lemon juice?" Mrs. Jiutiao asked in a flattering tone.
"Calling me 'Captain' just to boss me around better, huh?" Dubian Che remarked.
"She's too clever," Mrs. Jiutiao pointed at Dubian Che, speaking to another lady, "We must find a way to trick him."
"What's there to trick!" said the other lady, "Either he marries your daughter or mine; it's only right for him to fetch things for us."
"Indeed," Dubian Che agreed.
"Not objecting to marrying my daughter, eh?"
"..." Dubian Che turned and walked back to the cabin.
When he came out again, they had already started drinking.
Bulging chests, slender waists, pale buttocks, long legs...
The four of them exposed their fair, taut skin boldly.
Dubian Che alternately looked at the sunset and the ladies, leisurely grilling as he opened a can of cola for himself.
Strips of raw meat were laid on the grill, shrimps were placed on the side, and thin slices of beef were spread out.
The charcoal glowed red and soon sizzled with oil.
As the oil dripped, flames flared up around the meat, making it even more appealing.
The aroma began to fill the air.
"Is it done yet?" Mrs. Jiutiao knelt on the inflatable bed, straightening up to look over.
The meat turning golden brown made her drool; she was already hungry.
Dubian Che looked down at her from above, unable to overlook her round, full breasts under her black bikini swimsuit.
"Almost ready."
He focused on grilling.
The thin beef was done rapidly; he placed it on dishes and passed them to the ladies.
Mrs. Jiutiao eagerly grabbed it, dipped a slice in the sauce, and stuffed it into her mouth.
"Mmm!" was all she expressed.
Taking another slice, she dipped it in the sauce and took a big bite.
Her lips were greasy.
"Delicious!"
"The meat is so tender and flavorful."
"Captain, more please!"
Having filled their stomachs with the quickly-cooked beef, they added vegetables to the charcoal fire.
The lamb chops, golden and crispy, were irresistibly fragrant, and each person got one.
Jiutiao Meijie tore the meat from the lamb chop with her fingers, tilted her head back, and put it into her mouth from underneath.
The meat was tender yet not burnt, carrying just the right chewiness infused with a smoky aroma.
She chewed contently a couple of times, took a sip of her drink, and sighed with happiness.
Fresh, delicious.
The four women ate very happily, and Dubian Che, as a chef, also watched with joy.
With his right hand, Dubian Che managed the grill, and with his left, he took sips of cola and bites of meat.
"Play some music, Captain!" Mrs. Kiyono said, holding sections of a lamb chop in both hands, tearing off strands of meat with her pearly white teeth.
"Ah, my love has gone away with the south wind,
to those coral reefs where the aromatic breeze blows."
"What an old song!" Kiyono Lin laughed.
"Insult my idol, and I'll add extra chili to your barbecue!"
"Sing something else," Mrs. Jiutiao said, sipping red wine.
"If you missed the train I was on,
then that means I've already left alone in sadness,
hear that long train whistle,
one hundred miles and another hundred, taking me far away."
The sky gradually darkened, sunlight streaming through cracks in the clouds, forming rays on the surface of the sea.
The sinking evening sun, the gentle sea breeze, the smell of barbecue, the four beautiful women, Dubian Che's American folk songs.
