Rise of the Apex Predator: A LitRPG Adventure

Summary of Changes to Book 1

Summary of changes from Book 1

Hey folks. Just got done editing book 1 with Moonquill. There are no plot changes, but there are a few core mechanics I needed to fix. Now, obviously I don't want you guys to go back and read everything. And neither can I upload the edited work here on RR (cause it has the work of others who are getting paid for it now).

So, as a middle ground I am summarizing everything that has changed in this chapter. I will place it at the start of Volume 2 and delete the announcement chapters.

Stat Page:

The major change that my editor wanted was the use of tables. Apparently, it's a nightmare to set up and Amazon Kindle doesn't allow that anyway (it costs extra to have one). So, this is what the new stat page looks like at end of book 1:

Soul Beacon (Unfettered)

System's Grace

Now, right off the bat, you might have noticed a few new things. Especially the Internalized Skills section. The mechanic change here is that Skills are of two types—System assisted, and internal ones linked to a soul and/or titles.

System assisted skills are slotted into the four slots and can be upgraded using SP.

Internalized skills are the properties of one's soul and cannot be upgraded by the System. Aenon's soul and mana senses are such examples. System's Grace was internalized during his evolution. Here are the Skill Descriptions (except Beacon. That will be explained in book 2):

Internalized Skill Learned | Identify | Displays the details of a creature or life form. Additional info can be gained by observation or obtaining it through other means.

Internalized Skill learned | Mana Sense | By studying the Goblin Shaman's crude use of mana, and adding your own observations of mana theory, you have successfully internalized the principles of mana sense. Moreover, for successfully doing it with minimal guidance, additional Titles and rewards will be granted.

Internalized Skill learned | Soul Sense (Unfettered) | Allows the user to track souls in the vicinity. Effects range and efficacy will improve with use.

Internalized Skill| Soul Purge (Unfettered) | Attack the true soul of a target, bypassing all System safeguards and measures, including resurrection tokens. Can be cast via any form of link to the target.

Internalized Skill | System's Grace | Conceal all stats, Titles, and Level, and bypass certain System restrictions.

Evolution Stat Cutoffs:

Now this was something that bugged me for a while. I wasn't decided on what the cutoffs for Aenon should be. So, I changed them a bit.

Essentially, the first evolution is a way to equalize and bring every species to the same playing field. Humans have 60 stats in total (average of 10 per stat), while dragons have 6000 (1000 per stat). Now this would mean they can never be equal, no matter what.

But it also means, humans have more potential to grow, while dragons are already at the pinnacle. Therefore, here are the cutoffs for human vs dragon (or ascended human) for their evolution grade:

F

E

D

C

B

A

S

Human

1200

2400

3600

4800

6000

7200

8400

Dragon

350

700

1050

1400

1750

2100

2450

So, at an S grade evolution humans will have a total of 8460 stats, and a dragon would have 8450 stats. This is without classes of course. This doesn't mean Aenon can't have more than 2450 stats from titles. He can, but his grade will remain S (multiplier of 128).

Also, I have locked his first evolution stat multiplier. Explanation being his body wont be able to handle it. It will start to unlock as he evolves. I have also scaled down a few values.

Cheers

P.S. Will get back to the story soon. The editing work was cumbersome.

P.P.S. I got a one star rating yesterday 😞 so down a few dozen ranks again.
