Doniana Swamp, if placed on modern Earth, would be a rare wetland park, provided it was fully developed.
Untouched wetlands are outright nightmares for travelers. Dense undergrowth completely covers the ground, alongside densely grown trees, meaning one couldn't know whether the ground in front of them was solid land, mud, or a puddle until they stepped on it.
Or even a deeply hidden river beneath the foliage.
Numerous invisible banshees roamed about, vigilantly scouting for any Extraordinary Creatures lying in ambush. As for investigating the terrain, that responsibility was directly handled by Mia in the team.
The banshees' reconnaissance confirmed the distribution of the surrounding Extraordinary Creatures groups. Based on this information, Miel formulated the next route forward—cleverly avoiding these creatures' active areas to steer clear of unnecessary combat.
Adopting such a cautious progression strategy was, of course, based on tactical considerations.
Indeed, the members of The Azure Longsword could adopt the Transporter Tactics, which involved everyone hiding inside Fire Island, leaving only one highly mobile individual outside carrying an ancient book for quick action, such as Nora's flying or Mia's Ripple Sword teleportation.
However, anyone who had played StarCraft knew that Transporter Tactics dramatically increased the risks of an encounter. For instance, a transport carrying advanced troops could suddenly run into an enemy group of machine gunners and get annihilated before they could react, resulting in losses painful enough to be physically felt.
The choice of The Azure Longsword members was also based on similar concerns. While it was possible to use Transporter Tactics when traveling on Empire highways, in certain unsafe areas such as oceans, dense forests, or enemy-held zones, the whole team had to move cautiously with everyone on foot.
Mia, following the route designated by Miel, moved forward lightly, creating a confirmed, walkable path made of mud for the others.
Occasionally she stepped into mud or even a hidden river, but the moment she began sinking, she would teleport back instantly with a Ripple Sword, then Sigrdrifa would step forward and freeze the ground, allowing everyone to step on it and continue moving forward.
The Ripple Sword, as a form of Extraordinary Swordsmanship, primarily served as a technique to teleport next to an enemy for assassination. Nevertheless, Mia frequently used it for positional movement.
The reason wasn't that Mia's swordsmanship skills were lacking, but rather, at the current Level Limit of Extraordinary Level Lv.20, pure physical attacks had become ineffective against many enemies.
Fortunately, after advancing to Lv.13, Mia was trying to integrate a new skill "Twist" onto her weapon's surface.
Creating a static spatial rift at a specific location was a rigid, mechanical method easily circumvented by the enemy's high-mobility movements. The previous battle with Eleanor had confirmed this.
Adding Twist to the weapon's surface solved both the insufficient killing power of ordinary swordsmanship and the static immobility of spatial rifts. Mia's skilled Dual-Handed Assassination Technique, combined with the terrifying mobility of the Ripple Sword, would surely maximize the effectiveness of this tactic.
Unfortunately, as Mia's tests showed, applying "Twist" to a weapon without damaging it seemed to require extremely delicate Law Manipulation Power and was estimated to be achievable only after reaching Law Embodiment at Lv.15.
After moving forward some distance, Miel's complexion suddenly changed:
"Be careful! A Demigod is approaching!"
"Who?" Aske immediately asked.
"The Resentful Spirit Demigod... It's that Lv.32 Demigod from Almeria!" Miel spoke rapidly, the signs of possession by the Banshee Queen quickly manifesting on her. Her hair turned grayish-white, her skin grew dim, and purple eyeshadow emerged beneath her eyelids.
Eleanor's Will quickly expanded, covering everyone in its embrace without any blind spots. The Will Fog had already spread, continuously monitoring any activity around them, ready to immediately activate the Unyielding Holy Sword's state at the first sign of trouble.
However, it seemed that the other party had no intention of ambushing them, as she simply materialized slowly in front of everyone.
After a moment, Eleanor cautiously opened up a slot in her will shell, revealing the face of the other.
This demi-god, known as the Edge of Grief, had an almost translucent body, slowly floating in the air with the wind. She appeared to be a noblewoman dressed in a classic gown, with curly, dense hair and a peculiarly enchanting smile on her face, like one painted on a mask.
"Camellia?" The first gaze fell on Medea, causing the Enchanting Demon to feel as if she'd plunged into an ice cave.
"Do you know my mother?" Medea asked cautiously.
"I know her," Edge of Grief said hauntingly, "Your mother is my archenemy. Our last battle had not decisively determined a victor."
The girls instantly tensed up.
"Under normal circumstances, I would likely... not hesitate to kill you all," Edge of Grief continued, her gaze shifting to Minerva, "but peculiar Banshee, why is there a scent of loyalty to me on you?"
"Hehehe," the Banshee Queen chuckled with a false laugh, "This is naturally because you once vowed loyalty to me~"
"I don't remember such a thing," Edge of Grief shook her head, her face's fake smile unchanging like a mask, "only, my memory... even I cannot trust it."
She extended her translucent arm, speaking with a cold, ethereal voice:
"Defeat me to prove you are worthy of my loyalty; or, be killed by me."
"Ah, what a stubborn creature, just as stubborn as you in that other world..." The Banshee Queen showed an exasperated expression of "I can't deal with you," then looked at Aske, "Sorry, Squad Leader. It seems due to my reasons, we have to fight this demigod."
Aske:......
The girls were speechless, not expecting that the formidable opponent would be summoned by the Banshee Queen.
Someone like Medea even started contemplating if it was feasible to leave Miel here to fight the opponent alone.
"Alright," Aske naturally wouldn't leave Miel alone, and said, "Let's fight then."
Consider it as playing a professional league match. Nine against one, and the opponent wasn't a professional player; Aske was still confident in the girls he had personally trained for two years.
"Very well," Edge of Grief said, her chest suddenly pierced by a shadow from behind.
Mia had already teleported behind her, and the corrosive blade formed of shadows had pierced her back.
However, Edge of Grief showed no sign of pain, merely twisting her head 180 degrees backward quickly, looking at Mia with a sinister smile, her thin lips slightly parted.
Spirit Scream!
