Xiao Mao True Monarch opened his eyes, gazed in the direction not far away, and said:
"You have finally come."
But, alas, you are too late.
Perhaps only a few hundred years have passed in that world, yet over ten thousand years have gone by here for Mao Zhong.
Everything is already too late.
The Demon Tribulation invaded, and the Demon King beguiled the Yuan Shi Heavenly King to seize power.
From then on, conflicts arose between the Acquired Divine Beings and the Innate Divine Beings. Internal strife erupted within the Sanmao Heavenly Court, pushing its once-thriving state into decline amidst internal and external turmoil.
The Yuan Shi Heavenly King, realizing his remorse before his death, found it was already too late.
The Medium Thousand World was torn apart. Upper Mao and Middle Mao were gravely wounded and, combined with the disruption caused by the Demon Army, vanished, their whereabouts unknown.
Xiao Mao wandered through the void with the remnants of the Medium Thousand Earth.
Of course, the Demon Army relentlessly pursued them from behind.
Mao Zhong, his Primordial Energy wounded, could only evade battle time and again.
In this fragment of the Medium Thousand Earth, aside from himself, there were also Innate Divine Beings who governed the Water System, such as Emperor Shuiyuan.
Although both sides reached a fragile truce, it was merely a temporary arrangement forged under the pressure of a common enemy. Mao Zhong could not command the Innate Divine Beings, and similarly, the Innate Divine Beings could not command Mao Zhong's people.
Thus, Mao Zhong firmly believed that once safety was attained, this alliance would inevitably dissolve into internal strife.
The conflicts between the Innate Divine Beings and Acquired Immortals had existed ever since the founding of the Sanmao Heavenly Court.
However, both sides maintained a delicate balance, pressing down on the tensions without letting them surface.
Mao Zhong urgently required an external ally to break this balance.
Song Lin was the perfect candidate.
When Mao Zhong first encountered Song Lin, it was during the tenth Demon Tribulation. More than a hundred thousand years had passed since then. By now, Song Lin was likely at least at the advanced realm of a Heavenly Immortal.
Thinking of this, Mao Zhong summoned his subordinates.
"Deliver the order. Head in that direction, reach there first, and then await further directives from me."
The directions within the void of the Great Thousand World were not fixed and could not be precisely described.
Furthermore, Song Lin did not specify a location, only providing a vague position. They would have to contact him again upon arrival.
Soon, the fragmented remnants of the Sanmao World set off for their destination.
Mao Zhong closed his eyes once more, sitting in meditation to regulate his breath. Behind him, a golden Eight Diagram appeared.
With his elder brothers missing and the Medium Thousand Heavenly Court shattered, his life had undergone enormous upheaval.
At its core, it was because the Upper Mao True Monarch had been too compromising in the past.
The establishment of the Medium Thousand Heavenly Court required the Innate Dao, yet at that time, they were all of the Acquired Realm.
Thus, an Innate Divine Being was selected as the Heavenly Court Master.
Originally, the Sanmao held a transcendental status, but as the Medium Thousand Heavenly Court expanded and the world's hierarchy rose, more Innate Divine Beings appeared, silently and subtly breaking the balance.
Innate Divine Beings, once reliant on the Sanmao, began gaining the capacity to oppose them.
The Upper Mao True Monarch, being congenial in demeanor, refrained from employing suppressive measures, staunchly believing in his extraordinary cultivation, fearing no difficulty.
Unexpectedly, he suffered a colossal setback.
If given another chance to start over, Mao Zhong would not exercise leniency.
Beneath the earth, at the source of countless rivers, deep under a spring river a thousand zhang long, stood a Crystal Palace.
Its gentle radiance illuminated the riverbed, where fish, shrimps, and crabs swam freely.
The area surrounding the Crystal Palace resembled an overturned crystal bowl. Beneath the bowl lay a palace complex where countless peerless treasures were casually used as decorations.
In the center of the grand hall was a realm akin to a Small Thousand World, comparable to the Eight Sceneries World.
At the heart of this world, there stood a colossal crystal statue.
The divinity beneath the statue's feet stood on two Water Dragons, holding a Water Chasing Whip in the left hand and the Map of Ten Thousand River Sources in the right.
This was Emperor Shuiyuan, master of countless waters, the Water Immortals across the world.
Below the statue, within the palace, sat a man identical in appearance to the statue.
"Is it true?" Emperor Shuiyuan asked hoarsely.
Innate Divine Beings were closely bound to the worlds of their attainment, and the damage to the world had grievously injured his Primordial Energy.
"It is true," the informant reported. "The spy you placed has confirmed that Xiao Mao True Monarch is currently heading for a specific location, presumably to meet an ally. It's highly likely."
Emperor Shuiyuan pondered for a moment, a faint trace of greed curling on his lips.
"Cicada caught by the mantis, unaware of the yellow sparrow behind. Strike down his ally, extinguish his last shred of hope."
Either kill the reinforcements or subdue them.
In any case, Mao Zhong must not be allowed to proceed as he wishes.
"Keep constant watch. We must act first. If his ally belongs to the Heavenly Court, then it will be perfect for seizing their foundation to restore my strength."
Mao Zhong remained unaware that the ranks of the Acquired Immortals had already descended into chaos within themselves.
In times of peace, their internal conflicts would inevitably surface.
Donghua World.
Four Heavenly Immortals were bound to an altar, day and night subjected to Yinn Shang Secret Methods that extracted every ounce of their mana.
The mana of a Heavenly Immortal was on a cosmic scale, fused with the Great Dao. Under the condition of unrestricted extraction, there were bound to be considerable benefits.
Similar scenes played out in the Altar Temple World and Wushan World simultaneously.
The altar in Donghua World served as the main altar, with the others as subsidiary altars.
On the altar, Song Lin closed his eyes, sensing the three Small Thousand Worlds.
He visualized the three universes as pearls, disconnected from each other, with the Heavenly Court acting as the thread to string them together.
His task was now to use the Heavenly Court to bind the three worlds into a single unified chain.
The entire chain represented the totality of the Medium Thousand World.
The spaces within the links of the chain were the starry void and the domain where the Heavenly Court resided.
Thus, while the Medium Thousand World stood tall amidst the Great Thousand World, in certain respects, it remained independent of the Great Thousand World.
Owing to this enclosed nature, many Medium Thousand Worlds were deeply hidden, making them undetectable to most.
Nine Tripods ascended into the skies, and within the black rift above, a faint shadow of the Palace of the Polestar appeared.
Below the Palace of the Polestar was an expansive land—this was the Kunlun Heavenly Realm.
Song Lin accompanied the altar as it ascended and entered this place.
Bang!
Three beams of light shot into the void.
They connected the Donghua, Altar Temple, and Wushan Small Thousand Worlds through the subsidiary altars.
Soon, the three worlds were linked together.
Song Lin gazed into the black void. Compared to before, there was not much change, except that three galaxy-like multicolored bands now adorned the sky.
These were the fissures of the Small Thousand Worlds—gateways between this world and theirs. Without the Heavenly Court's guidance, traversing these passages posed grave risks.
Perhaps the myth of tribulation crossing and ascension referred to the passage through these gates.
The place appeared unchanged, but Song Lin knew the land where the Heavenly Court resided, along with the surrounding void, had been enclosed by the chain of connected Small Thousand Worlds.
This was now the void of the Medium Thousand Heavenly Court.
The void was largely empty for now, devoid of stars, with only a solitary continent.
That continent, supported by breath soil, would grow as it absorbed energy over time.
The world now had three levels.
The upper level was the Kunlun Heavenly Realm, the middle level was the Mortal World, rendered neither pure nor turbid, and the lower level was the underworld.
This was the standard arrangement of the three Small Thousand Worlds.
It was said that with more Small Thousand Worlds joining, the stratified configuration of the world could increase.
With the Medium Thousand World now preliminarily established, Song Lin was elated.
"From now on, this world shall be called the Donghua Middle Thousand! What a pity, though, that Lao Mountain World and Upper Immortal World have not been fully brought under control and cannot yet be incorporated."
Adding these two worlds would stabilize the Donghua Middle Thousand even further.
The star in the Lao Mountain World was not the Ancestor Star of a Small Thousand World, and there seemed to be other major powers in the Upper Immortal World.
Both worlds had realized issues, preventing their integration into Donghua's ranks.
Song Lin resolved to visit those worlds and meet their inhabitants in person.
Returning to his senses, Song Lin gazed upon the darkness of the vacant void.
"Let the stars return to their places! Taiyang, Taiyin, and the star constellations' Three Enclosures. The time of ten thousand years is about right."
