Uesugi Shion knew that delay could lead to changes. She held the pistol, ready to pull the trigger at any moment, yet couldn't help wanting to look at Fushimi Roku's face a little longer.
She hoped Fushimi Roku would show a look of despair. At the very least, it would be acceptable for him to face death with resolve, instead of having that infuriating expression of 'I'm the real winner.'
"Why are you smiling?" Uesugi Shion asked.
"To be honest, playing with you has been quite interesting," Fushimi Roku, with his hands cuffed, said, looking at the dark muzzle of the gun. "It's a pity that you have no basic respect for social rules, too prone to messing things up."
"So you've admitted defeat?" Uesugi Shion stepped back, without the slightest tremor in her aim. "Planning to just die like this?"
"How could that be possible?" Fushimi Roku remained perfectly still. "I've even thought of your last words for you."
"Are you confident in snatching away the detonator before I fire?" Uesugi Shion couldn't help asking.
"No, my hands are cuffed. How could I fight you for the detonator if I broke my joints? Especially when you're pointing a gun at me," Fushimi Roku said truthfully.
"Then are you confident in killing me and escaping the fifty-meter blast radius?" Uesugi Shion had a bad premonition.
"A sprint has inertia. How is it possible to not stop during a return run? If I directly charge towards you, to run fifty meters behind you, that would total a hundred meters, which is even less possible," Fushimi Roku eliminated all options for her.
Uesugi Shion was silent for a few seconds, making a decision in her heart. This was the last question; no matter how Fushimi Roku answered, she would pull the trigger:
"What last words?"
Fushimi Roku slowly raised his hands, placing his left hand on the shackles and raising his right index finger to his lips, signaling her to be silent and listen carefully.
He stood in the middle of fallen trees, with roaring flames burning behind him, ashes soaring to the clouds. The dawn in the distance painted the sea blood red, white and black blending in the island and sea.
Uesugi Shion inclined her ear, hearing nothing but the crackling of burning flames.
"What am I listening to?" she asked.
"The roar of justice."
The moment he finished speaking, Fushimi Roku tilted his head, and a gunshot rang from the sea cliff. The sound was so faint, like the 'snap' of burning wood.
If the live broadcast were slowed down seventy times at that moment, everyone would see a bullet penetrating the flames. As Fushimi Roku turned his head, it grazed his ear, skimming past his eye corner, hitting Uesugi Shion squarely in the forehead.
The bullet did not lose momentum, shooting out from the back of Uesugi Shion's head, directly shattering the camera lens.
The live broadcast audience was stunned, including Kujo Yua, who only saw Fushimi Roku tilt his body, Uesugi Shion's rear head erupt in a blood burst, and then the screen went black.
What happened?
Kujo Yua thought it was a line issue and urged the officers to repair it quickly, only to be told there was no problem with the line, and the broadcast had interrupted.
The next second, a flash of white light appeared on the boat's cabin glass.
Kujo Yua turned her head to look out the window, seeing another pillar of fire erupting in the center of Cat Island, thicker and taller than the forest blaze, with smoke mushrooming straight into the sky.
One or two seconds later, the explosion's rumble reached them, like thunder from a clear sky, with waves crashing against the coast, black waters battering the boat cabin, causing the patrol ship to rock violently.
It really blew up...
Is that guy still alive?
Kujo Yua confirmed Uesugi Shion was dead. The officer recorded the broadcast footage for later report.
No matter what, Fushimi Roku was one of her key personnel, a capable officer under her command, whom she had consistently used (and indulged). The case report would definitely highlight this later.
Kujo Yua's goal was achieved, and there was no reason to linger. The master of Cat Island requested her to return immediately. But she signaled her subordinates to keep the radio silent, pretending not to hear the order.
In any case, she had to wait for someone to return.
Of course, that person was not Fushimi Roku; she was waiting for her daughter.
If Fushimi Roku could heroically sacrifice himself, it would be even better, saving her a lot of hassle... she wouldn't need to perform ideological work on Fushimi afterwards, nor retract any dismissal orders, nor worry about her daughter being taken away by a pig, let alone the commendation funds and promotion spots — it would be hitting four birds with one stone.
Unfortunately, reality always defied expectations.
Kujo Yua stood on the deck, holding the railing, gazing at the coastline. After over an hour, she finally saw five small dots appear on the beach.
Those people were inflating a rubber boat at the shore, pushing it into the sea, carrying a blackened figure, and leaping onto the raft, swimming towards the patrol ship.
The riot team members and crew cheered, people always admire heroes. To the spectators, Fushimi Roku clearly could have left but chose to stay in the fire, negotiating with the terrorists — such courage and guts were revered.
If it were made into a movie, it would be the type of macho protagonist played by Ken Takakura.
Everyone wanted to know how Fushimi Roku finally turned the tables and was slightly worried that he hadn't escaped the final explosion. If he heroically sacrificed himself while fighting terrorists, it would be a great shame.
Fortunately, Fushimi Roku was fine, just a bit dirty.
The more he postured in front of Uesugi Shion, the more disheveled he was after the explosion, nearly running for his life, even activating a one-hundred-meter sprint skill.
To escape the blast range, he didn't even care about the wall of fire in front of him. With a big jump, he tried to vault over the fire ground, but before landing, the bomb exploded.
