The Investiture: Unlimited Blade Works Nezha

Chapter 524: Huang Mei Blocks the Way

Does the Buddha lack greed, anger, and ignorance?

Some brothers have them, indeed.

The Buddha here is just a title, and those who can achieve it surely possess great resolve and wisdom. But as wise beings, constrained by their experiences, how could they be devoid of such emotions?

Unless truly in a state of Nirvana.

Even the Heavenly Dao of the Primordial favors the Immortals who contribute to its development.

Perhaps only the everlasting Great Dao is without emotion.

Maitreya's discontent with Old Li is simple; firstly, Old Li's cultivation is low, and secondly, he believes the current Buddhist Sect has taken over resources that belonged to the Western Sect's disciples.

Of course, despite the displeasure, Maitreya would not act excessively because opposing Old Li is tantamount to opposing his teacher, whom he greatly respects.

A set precedent for his disciple, Child Huang Mei, who also doesn't have much respect for the Tathagata of Lingshan, especially upon hearing about his fellow disciple Jin Can Zi reincarnating here to obtain the True Scripture, which further fueled his reluctance.

Not for any other reason, but to thoroughly surpass him, both to prove his understanding of the Buddhist Law is correct and to bring honor to his teacher.

Thus, secretly from Maitreya, he took some Magical Treasures to the Lower Realm.

Was Maitreya unaware? He merely turned a blind eye to it.

After descending, Huang Mei didn't establish any Little Leiyin Temple, as he came to prove himself right.

Why did his debate long ago lose to Jin Can Zi? Was it solely because of his stubbornness?

He searched for a long time along the path Xuanzang would take and finally found a place, where two neighboring nations, Mala Country and Jun Tang Country, with equal standing, had long been on friendly terms.

Between two countries flows a river, vital for irrigating the fields of both.

Huang Mei directly moved another mountain to block the river, and informed the countries, claiming himself as the Mountain God of this spot, stating that he would divert the river towards the nation that offered the richer tribute next year.

Each country is a realm of mortals, confronted with such a scene helplessly they could only present superior offerings, and Huang Mei moved the water according to his promise to the victorial Jun Tang Country.

The other country could only reap a meager harvest.

The following year, both countries marshaled their strength but the previous year's lack of water led Mala Country to a reduced capability, unable to overpower its neighbor despite giving their utmost effort due to last year's diminished harvest.

First thoughts of Mala Country were negotiations, engaging in talks with Jun Tang Country, offering some tribute to secure irrigation rights for the coming year.

Unfortunately, human nature is greedy; when strength was comparable between nations, they could be allies. Now with a leverage against them, laughter ensues.

Mala Country faced outrageous terms, infuriated while Jun Tang Country calculated to control its tribute losses for the Mountain God.

On the third year, Jun Tang Country prevails again, realizing that this mysterious Mountain God's appearance is perhaps beneficial?

Awaiting Mala Country to obediently surrender, Jun Tang Country is caught off guard as its vast fertile land gets torched by dispatched agents from Mala Country.

Granaries are raided and robbed by villains.

The two nations had been amicable for generations, unaccustomed to conflict; the current situation evidently surprises all.

Desperation led Mala Country to understand the rules anew: it wasn't about offering the most, just offering more than the opponent!

Thus, a food war commenced.

Though previously advantaged, Jun Tang Country was taken aback due to losing the initiative, struggling in the confrontation.

In the fourth year, Mala Country first secured irrigation rights.

Such underhanded tactics, similar to Pandora's Box, once unleashed cannot be reversed.

Even with irrigation rights, Mala Country could not calmly build its grain stocks.

Once the conflict ignites uncontrollably, what had been decades-long friendship turned into a deadly enmity in mere years.

Xuanzang and his apprentices initially approached Mala Country, witnessing a cavalry chasing a richly dressed man and woman.

Sun Wukong, driven by justice, repelled the pursuers, discovering the pursued couple is the eloping Prince of Mala Country and Princess of Jun Tang Country.

Surprised, Xuanzang's party wondered about the situation, as such a pair of well-matched noble characters eloping was unexpected?

The Prince exhaled deeply and shared, "Initially, our families were long-standing friends. Since childhood, Ah Zhen and I were childhood sweethearts; our matters wouldn't have faced such obstruction sadly since..."

He explained the events clearly amidst conversation.

Sun Wukong casually remarked, "Why don't I go over and slay that so-called Mountain God, wouldn't it resolve your nations' conflicts?"

Zhu Bajie promptly refuted, "Things aren't so simple; grievances are well established, merely claiming they're gone means nothing."

Xuanzang agreed with Bajie, knowing retrieval of the True Scripture meant relieving those suffering hardships.

As citizens of both nations endure grave distress, he couldn't remain indifferent.

"Let's first return the Prince; we can't ignore the issue."

The Prince and Princess hesitated to return, yet observing the non-human appearance of the Sun Wukong brothers left them begrudgingly following.

Upon reaching the Royal Palace, Sun Wukong displayed some prowess, succeeding in intimidating the King, who reacted gleefully.

"Elders, if you can help us defeat Jun Tang Country, we will reward you generously!"

It becomes evident; compared to the Mountain God that blocked water, the King abhors Jun Tang Country more.

Sun Wukong retorted silently, "This King! Instead of asking me to get rid of that obstructing Demon, you ask for my help defeating the enemy country?"

The King sheepishly remained silent, realizing the greater potential gains alongside his non-philanthropic role as King.

Yet removing the Mountain God seemed beneficial.

"Alas, aging is muddling my judgment, muddling indeed."

Xuanzang realized the difficulty in resolving inter-country antagonism, unable to devise a solution readily. But removing the Mountain God ensured water availability for both nations without error.

Sun Wukong agreed, a mere Mountain God directing to move mountains, what profound capabilities could he possess?

Following the King's directions, they arrived at Broken Water Mountain, while Huang Mei meditated in the Mountain God Temple.

Sun Wukong became more prudent compared to before, seeing Huang Mei's solemn demeanor he refrained from attacking immediately, asking, "Are you the Mountain God of Broken Water Mountain?"

Spotting Sun Wukong, Huang Mei expressed neither surprise nor shock, instead inquired, "Are you Xuanzang's disciple?"

This reverse interrogation seemed odd; typically, a demon wouldn't inquire into the mortal monk first?

"Indeed, I see you possess Dao, relocate the mountain, and I'll spare your life!"

Huang Mei deemed himself a peer of Jin Can Zi, how could he respect a mere Monkey? He responded coldly, "Then let me witness your abilities."

Finishing his sentence, a Golden Bell flew towards him; a snap concluded the battle.

Sun Wukong felt intense heat and discomfort throughout his body; both enlarging and shrinking failed to escape.

Huang Mei held Sun Wukong captive for one day before releasing him.

"Fetch your master here."

Sun Wukong eyed Huang Mei with suspicion; a Magical Treasure so potent, akin to Lord's Green Ox Spirit.

Hastily retreating to mind a solution, he ultimately found none.

Returning, he didn't mention Huang Mei specified meeting Xuanzang, as sending a mortal into such peril assured fatality.

Contemplating, he wondered if the fitting Golden Bell could trap another person? Resolving to bring along two scapegoats to address the matter?

Thus, on this occasion, all three brothers approached, then Huang Mei drew out a thin cloth sack, tossed it skyward, leading the trio into the bag.

After entrapping them for three days, Huang Mei chose the smoothest-talking pig, Zhu Bajie, to relay the message.

Zhu Bajie lacked Sun Wukong's resolve, returning to express Mountain God's demands to see Xuanzang.
