North America Gunman Detective

Chapter 628: 410 Mysterious Shadows

Mahong and his team quickly arrived near Jimmy and entered the forest where they discovered a body. Fortunately, the City Police forensic team hadn't left just yet, and they began examining the area around the body. They soon found what Jimmy was most concerned about: the wallet, keys, and cellphone on the body.

Mahong and his team put on gloves and took the sealed bags from the forensic team, starting with the keys. Among them was a Honda car key, which was their target.

They took out a driver's license from the wallet. The cellphone was out of power and couldn't be checked directly, but this was not a big issue. As long as it was taken back to the police station for registration, it could be charged and turned on. What was now crucial was finding out his vehicle information and family information from his identity, determining how he came here, whether by car, and where the car had gone now.

They called a police officer, instructing him to immediately send the body along with the evidence found in the hunting cabin back for identification, while also checking the identity of the body, contacting the family, and determining what transportation he had used to come hunting.

The rest was still a waiting game, but there was good news, a K9 was ready.

The K9 officer arrived at the cabin with the K9, Mahong took the prison uniform they had initially found by the river from the forensic team, opened the sealed bag, and let the K9 sniff it. Then, the officer unleashed the K9, which circled around the cabin before running off towards the forest.

Indeed, a suspect had indeed gone in the direction of the forest. Jimmy and his team followed the K9 as it ran towards the forest, but shortly after entering, the K9 suddenly stopped and began baring its teeth and growling towards the forest, indicating something was there.

The officer stepped forward to grab the K9's collar, looked towards the forest, then bent down next to the K9, and reached out to pet its body, "What's the matter, Cade? What's wrong?"

The K9 continued to bare its teeth. After being held by the officer, it began slowly backing away. The K9 officer had never encountered this situation before. He slowly pulled on the K9, his head close to the dog's head, whispering soothing words. After a while, the K9 calmed down and lay down on the forest floor under the officer's soothing touch.

The officer looked up at Mahong: "Sorry, detective, I think there might be something here that is very distressing for Cade. He might not be able to continue."

Mahong had been watching the K9. Hearing the officer's words, he nodded, "Thank you, you can take him back to the cabin or to the police station if you wish. We'll handle the search ourselves."

The officer put the leash back on the K9 and pulled him away from the forest, while Mahong turned to look into the forest, pondering what could be there.

Jimmy had been on alert since the K9's behavior changed. He had been wandering in the forest for a long while and had activated "Heart Eye", but at least at that time, he hadn't sensed anything unusual. The K9's transition from a sprint to growling at the forest meant it had definitely sensed something, but they hadn't seen anything.

Jimmy switched to Heart Eye mode. At least within the Heart Eye's range, he didn't detect anything unusual, confirming there weren't any large animals nearby. Could it be a matter of distance?

Jimmy reached for his Python. After returning to work, he had already registered the Python and both 1875s. Now, Jimmy wasn't using his own single revolver holster anymore but had switched to a custom-made double revolver holster, one for an imitation Colt Python and one for an 1875, enough to handle any emergency, along with the Glock 19M on his belt for sufficient fire suppression.

He typically didn't use the 1875. The .44 Magnum was overkill, leaving a crater in someone's body if hit, which was a bit too brutal. He usually used the Python .357 Magnum.

Jimmy held the gun in his right hand, not raising it, but keeping it at his side, while he took out six spare .357 bullets from his pocket with his left hand, and began slowly walking deeper into the forest towards the very direction the K9 had been facing. There definitely was a problem in that direction. The K9's earlier sprint indicated that it had indeed sensed a scent.

Mahong saw Jimmy's actions and exchanged a look with Philicia. Both drew their guns and followed Jimmy slowly, with Philicia trailing behind, occasionally glancing back.

Jimmy led, constantly swiveling his head to observe potential abnormalities within a 180-degree range in front of him, but after penetrating about a hundred meters deep into the forest, he still hadn't detected anything abnormal. Jimmy furrowed his brow, as this seemed unusual. Human senses might be flawed, but K9s are rigorously trained, and their senses are highly acute, so something that caused such fear in them shouldn't completely evade detection in the Heart Eye range.

Mahong, seeing Jimmy stop, asked in a low voice, "Found anything?"

Jimmy didn't turn back: "No, nothing found. The K9's reaction was strange. I think we should search a bit further ahead."

Mahong: "Continue."

Jimmy continued forward, the fact that the dog could sense something from such a distance suggested that whatever it was, it was not simple.

After moving a few dozen more meters, Jimmy suddenly detected a shadow within the range of Heart Eye. He had ventured through this part of the forest before but had not noticed it then. Detecting the target, Jimmy continued forward, slipped the .357 bullets back into his pocket, shifted the 1857 from under his right arm to his right hand, and slightly adjusted his direction. As he entered a clear line of sight with no obstructions, Jimmy stopped advancing further.
