Someone was shot right in front of him, but Jimmy didn't intervene. However, dinner was no longer an option as he noticed shards of glass on the table when he sat down. Turning his head, he saw two bullet holes in the window next to him. Had he not gotten up, the person hit would not have been someone inside; it would've been him.
"FxxK," Jimmy cursed when he spotted the bullet holes, and Nia saw them too. Both were somewhat frightened.
"Let's just go home," Jimmy said resignedly. They couldn't eat the food on their table covered in glass fragments, and the food itself wasn't spared either. The restaurant was in chaos, but Jimmy didn't skip out on the bill. Instead, he called over a waiter to settle the bill before leaving with Nia.
Not skipping out on the bill wasn't about him being noble, he simply didn't lack money. Why tarnish his reputation over such a small amount? If he were still the drifter he once was, he would have dashed without paying. Moreover, if he was still a drifter, he wouldn't have the chance to eat in this type of restaurant.
Before they could leave the restaurant, police cars had already arrived. Two Patrol Officers jumped out and ran into the restaurant, followed closely by a fire truck which arrived with two firefighters who weren't in heat-resistant suits.
In the United States, there are various types of firefighting vehicles, some specifically for firefighting like turntable ladder trucks, water tankers, and others are multipurpose vehicles with emergency medical spaces.
Most firefighting personnel are qualified emergency medical technicians. Those in the fire service who are not yet fully qualified medical personnel need additional medical training. Therefore, the rescue workers can perform emergency first aid on-site before transporting the injured to the hospital.
Based on the information provided by the person who called 911, the dispatch would send the appropriate type of firefighting vehicle, like the one that arrived with an emergency medical space this time.
Jimmy and Nia didn't concern themselves with these matters, as it was none of their business, but Jimmy's eyes reddened when he reached his Mercury parked by the curb.
His dearly cherished blue Mercury had two bullet holes in the left side of the body, and the driver's side window was cracked, with a bullet hole near the center. "Fxxk! Fxxk! Fxxk!" Jimmy cursed as he tenderly touched the bullet holes on the body and turned to look in the direction of the two fleeing cars.
Nia rushed over from behind, "What's wrong?"
Clenching his teeth, Jimmy said, "My car, my beloved car is wrecked, I'm gonna kill them. God, I'm definitely gonna kill them."
Nia was speechless. She knew how much Jimmy cherished his Mercury. He had told her that although he only spent 2000 dollars to acquire it, the total cost he had spent on maintenance and repairs was several times its initial price. Even after becoming an FBI agent with a decent salary, he never thought about replacing it with a new car, which shows how much he valued it.
Nia: "Don't be too upset; there's bigger trouble now. Since the car was shot at, we can only take a taxi today."
Jimmy turned to Nia as she continued, "Don't look at me like that. The police have to conduct an investigation here, and we definitely can't drive the car away."
It dawned on Jimmy that the recent shooting had wounded a restaurant customer, making it a crime scene. As his car was also shot, it needed to remain for forensic collection by the police.
Jimmy was grinding his teeth in anger, "These damned bastards, I can't let them get away with this. Nia, call the station and help me find out who is handling this case, who they are, where they went. I need detailed intelligence."
Nia looked at Jimmy in alarm, "What are you going to do?" Knowing him as the "Butcher" moniker in the FBI, she didn't for a second think he merely wanted some information.
Between clenched teeth, Jimmy let out, "I want to make them pay."
Nia grasped Jimmy's arms, "Stay calm, I'll find out. Don't do anything rash, Jimmy, look at me, I'll get this sorted."
Jimmy looked at Nia, his agitated mood gradually calming down. He nodded, "I'm fine, go talk to the Patrol Officers inside to come here and investigate soon," he said as he turned his head back toward the driver-side window of his car, thinking of how this old buddy had really been through a lot with him.
Nia saw that Jimmy's face no longer held the fierce expression, so she let go of his arms and returned to the restaurant. Soon, a police officer came out and drew a perimeter around Jimmy's car with crime scene tape.
Nia returned, "Jimmy, I have to wait here for more support. Why don't you head back first?" Originally, Nia could have left as well, but she had disclosed her identity when she called the officer to seal off Jimmy's car, so naturally, she couldn't just walk away.
Jimmy shook his head, "I'll wait; after the inspection, I'll drive the car back."
Jimmy had no choice but to return to the restaurant and take a seat to rest; the restaurant had indeed been an inadvertent victim of a stray bullet injuring a patron. With the police conducting an investigation, the rest dined and left, forcing the restaurant to temporarily close for the day. Fortunately, the waitstaff didn't refuse Jimmy's request, providing him with a juice, which he, of course, paid for. Jimmy was waiting to drive his car back after the police inspection, and since he had already had two drinks during dinner, he couldn't drink much alcohol.
