North America Gunman Detective

Chapter 700: 440 Injured Again

After Jimmy had killed the gunman, he immediately stood up, waving his handgun as he began to scan his surroundings, worried that someone who hadn't appeared before might now show up to shoot again.

Once he confirmed the area was safe, Jimmy approached the car assigned to him, sat next to the bullet-proof door, took out his phone, and called Mahong to inform him of the attack. Then, he dialed 911 to request additional NYPD patrol officers to block off traffic and seal off the street.

As soon as Jimmy hung up, he could already hear the sound of police sirens, indicating that a patrol car was nearby.

Jimmy put the 1875 back into its holster; ammo for his Glock was already running low, so it too was holstered. He then drew the Python, keeping it ready while waiting for the officers to arrive on the scene.

Watching the police car drive up on the sidewalk, two patrol officers got out and crouched behind the car doors, drawing their guns to aim at the scene; they also seemed a bit confused. Jimmy then shouted, "FBI! Don't shoot!"

Jimmy, holding his badge in his left hand, gradually raised it above the car roof to show them, as the patrol officers also yelled, "Put down your gun and identify yourself."

Jimmy shouted, "FBI Senior Agent Jimmy, don't shoot, I am coming out." He then holstered the Python and slowly stood up.

Jimmy was wearing an FBI bullet-proof vest, prominently featuring white "FBI POLICE" lettering. The patrol officers tentatively confirmed his identity and then left their car, approaching him with their guns drawn.

Jimmy took out his credentials from his pocket to show them, "Please secure the scene, check if there are any other people injured. All five gunmen have been killed."

Suddenly, one of the patrol officers pointed at Jimmy's waist and said, "You're injured, you're bleeding. Did you get shot anywhere else?"

Jimmy, surprised, hadn't felt being shot during the gunfight, as his adrenaline soared. He looked down at his waist, began checking over his body, and then took off his bullet-proof vest, as the patrol officer helped to inspect his injuries, ultimately finding two wounds.

One was a grazing injury on his leg, which appeared to be from a bullet that had passed along the side of his thigh, merely grazing it, leaving a bullet hole in his pants and a shallow blood groove on his leg.

The other wound was on the right side of his abdomen, nearly along his side, a through-and-through injury outside the protection of the bullet-proof vest. Jimmy hadn't felt a thing, and the entry wound was from the right rear. It seemed that he had been shot before even getting out of the car.

The patrol officer called for an ambulance, and Jimmy was positioned by the police car. "Don't touch my car; it contains FBI equipment. Please make sure it's secure and that no one interferes with it."

Jimmy put on a pair of sunglasses he had just picked up from the ground. Soon after, several more police cars arrived. Their response was quick, as the gunfire hadn't lasted long, so their swift arrival was commendable.

A few minutes later, the ambulance arrived. The shootout had resulted in at least four bystanders being injured, and NYPD police and ambulances had already blocked off the road. Unfortunately, the police couldn't keep the paparazzi and reporters, drawn by the scent of news, from filming and taking photos.

If it had been another day, he would have just gotten into his car. However, today he was too late. The incident was significant, and even if he hid, those news agencies and TV stations would likely dig up the story.

It would have to do for him to wear sunglasses, at least. The key thing was that the gunfight was over, and now that Jimmy had calmed down, the rush of excitement from adrenaline was also fading.

Mahong and others had also arrived after getting the call, though much slower than the NYPD. Jimmy had received emergency medical treatment; he was supposed to be taken to the hospital, but he refused, not trusting the scene entirely to NYPD until Mahong and his team arrived.

Jimmy briefed Mahong briefly before he followed the ambulance to the hospital. The cut won his leg was minor, and the through-and-through wound in his abdomen was extremely fortunate, sparing major intestinal damage. It was just one bullet hole, and the experienced doctor said it wasn't a problem, starting treatment after administering anesthesia.

Under anesthesia, Jimmy was operated on and then taken to a room for observation. It wasn't long before Hughes arrived at the room.

Hughes: "Jimmy, what happened?"

Jimmy: "I was ambushed on the road. It was planned; they disguised themselves as a construction team repairing pipes, occupying a lane so all passing cars would slow down, perfectly setting up their ambush."

Hughes: "How did you notice them?"

Jimmy shook his head: "I didn't notice them. Pipe repairs are too common in Manhattan. I never imagined they could be lying in wait there."

Hughes: "You rest well now, Mahong is investigating, and I've pulled a team to assist him." After saying this, Hughes was ready to leave.

Jimmy: "Hughes, wait. Do you have the Anti-Terrorism Bureau's number?"

Hughes: "Huh? What does that have to do with them?"

Jimmy: "I was ambushed on my way back from there. I had planned to contact them to reverify the positions of some cell phones, but I couldn't reach an agreement with the new acting director."

Hughes shook his head: "I'm not familiar with their new director either; I can't contact him privately. Wait, you suspect there's a problem there?"

Jimmy nodded, "There might be."
