North America Gunman Detective

Chapter 718: Let's go Jimmy.

Jimmy's message to Tom was ignored once again. Without any initial results, there was no need to add to Jimmy's worries since the issues Tom was currently investigating were not something the FBI could intervene in.

While Tom was busy with Jimmy's issues, Jimmy had nothing much to do. Not receiving a reply from Tom, Jimmy knew that he probably hadn't discovered any significant clues yet.

Mahong and his team had already conducted extensive investigations, and Jimmy's involvement now could potentially interfere with them. All Jimmy could do was watch their investigations from the command center and return to his office to review the clues they had uncovered when he had nothing else to do.

Finally, Jimmy couldn't stand it any longer and went to Hughes's office.

Jimmy, "Hughes, I want to take a trip to Albany."

Hughes looked at Jimmy, "Why?"

Jimmy, "That senator's white-gloved Scott should be in Albany, I want to start investigating him."

Hughes thought for a moment, then shook his head, "Their target of investigation isn't in Albany at the moment. We can't provide you with intelligence support for now, just wait."

Jimmy walked up to Hughes's desk, "I'm not able to help them here, let me go. I will investigate this lead on my own."

Hughes sighed. That Scott didn't have the capability to organize the recent attacks, so from an FBI perspective, their current target was definitely not this minor figure. But Jimmy didn't seem to want to let him go.

Hughes had some guesses about Jimmy's identity, but without clues or evidence, no matter what, during his time at the FBI, Jimmy had lived up to his profession.

Letting him investigate on his own might be a good idea, and it might even divert the mastermind's attention away from New York City.

As for Jimmy's safety, Hughes was now completely reassured. If everyone he knew were factored in, against attacks and ambushes, Jimmy would definitely survive, which had become a consensus between Hughes and Mahong.

Hughes nodded, "I'll give you another break, rest for a week first."

Jimmy, "Thank you, Hughes."

Jimmy returned to the command center and said hello to Mahong. Finally back at work and about to set off for Albany alone, he had to notify his superior.

Mahong had no objections and let Jimmy take a vacation. As for where he spent his vacation, that was not something his colleagues should be concerned about.

Jimmy made a call to Nia as he was leaving and then drove home.

Yes, Jimmy had returned to his apartment. The work on replacing the floor and redesigning the bedroom had been completed; because they used E0 materials, and with the repeated assurances from the renovation company, Jimmy could move in immediately.

This is Manhattan, where there are many wealthy people. The renovation company certainly could not afford to screw up here; hence, Jimmy had moved back from the hotel. The all-wooden flooring throughout the house was fantastic, and the living room carpet had also been replaced, which felt very comfortable underfoot.

He didn't know how long he would be staying in Albany. Jimmy took his travel suitcase from the wardrobe, packed a few clothes, and left, driving the FBI-issued vehicle towards Albany.

Jimmy had become somewhat allergic to attacks, and it was uncertain whether he would be attacked this time as well, so he left his own car in New York.

Jimmy's previous vehicle had been wrecked in an attack, with dozens of bullet holes making it undriveable, a real pity.

That car had police lights, a siren, a police radio, and most importantly, bulletproof doors. Now, the vehicle Jimmy was driving was actually the same one he had used before, unmodified. The only advantage was that this car's license plate was a disguise, while the previous car with the police lights and siren had a Federation license plate, after all, it was considered a government vehicle.

Albany was over 200 kilometers from New York, not too far away. Jimmy wasn't in a rush and drove at a normal pace. He also had to keep an eye on the vehicles ahead and behind to prevent being followed again, which was quite taxing on his nerves.

Albany and New York are completely different cities; Albany has fewer people and a larger city scope, which means, of course, that there are no large skyscrapers like in New York, just more historically-looking buildings.

The biggest difference between Albany and New York is its smaller population. For Chinese-Americans like Jimmy, it's especially sparse. After arriving in Albany, Jimmy drove around the city a few times and then casually picked a restaurant to settle his belated lunch.

He was still waiting for news from Mahong; previously, Hughes had obtained an unlisted cellphone number for a Congressman glove puppet named Scott. In Mahong's investigation, there were two Scott Colemans in Albany. Once Mahong confirmed the cellphone's location again, Jimmy would start investigating them.

Jimmy found a hotel near the New York State Capitol. Being close to the Capitol offered slightly better security.

Mahong's call came soon: "Jimmy, that cellphone is turned off now, and we can't confirm its location temporarily. The last hotspot was downtown Albany. There's no need to pinpoint it; it's crowded there."

Jimmy said, "I understand, please ask the tech staff to keep an eye on this number and notify me of its location when the phone is switched on."

Jimmy didn't rush to find the hotel but first confirmed the family locations of the two Scotts documented because he was alone and needed to confirm the locations before tracking them.

Everything went smoothly. Jimmy followed the first Scott for just two days before giving up. This Scott was a power plant manager. Jimmy was just on vacation, his ID, badges, and weapons all intact, and he got in touch with the security manager under some pretext and quickly skimmed through some surveillance videos in their control room to confirm this Scott had a regular work schedule.

Such a person couldn't be glove puppet Scott. First, he had no time, which the security also confirmed; the power plant itself had few employees, the management was all at headquarters, and Scott was the charge there, present almost every day aside from regular weekends. Secondly, and most importantly, his son was still alive, around 20 years old, currently in college.

The second Scott lived in a villa in north Albany. The reason he didn't start there was because of the location of this Scott's home.

The first Scott was in the city, making it easier for Jimmy to follow or investigate, whereas the second Scott lived in a villa, owned a public relations firm, was wealthy and secluded, which meant there were hardly any neighbors around him, making a stranger in the area particularly conspicuous.

Driving to Birch Hill, Jimmy located the registered address, an L-shaped three-story villa. Jimmy drove past it from a distance; the U-shaped driveway in front of the villa limited his ability to scan with Heart Eye. Damn the wealthy, their U-shaped driveway was over 50 meters, such a waste of space.

Jimmy walked around the area. This villa community had a total of seven villas spaced quite far apart. He roughly recorded the terrain before heading back to Albany.

After changing clothes, Jimmy roamed the downtown, picked up some clothes and tools from several thrift and hardware stores, and by evening reached near Birch Hill. He hid his car, waited until night to change clothes in his vehicle, then walked towards Scott's villa from a hidden spot.

Jimmy wasn't sure if this particular Scott was his target, but the location of Scott's villa made normal surveillance and tracking impossible. He had to get closer to observe.

He approached the villa from the side while continuously scanning the surroundings with Heart Eye to ensure there were no cameras. The surveillance cameras are getting smaller; they're not as easy to spot as the big, blocky ones from before. However, the advantage of Heart Eye is that it can discern outlines as long as they aren't physical objects. If they were just ordinary hidden cameras, he'd still spot them.

The villa had no fences around it, with only a road and lawns in the front and back, and a small patch of woods on Jimmy's side. He concealed himself and approached the villa, circling it and finding only one person inside, a woman, who was clearly not his target.

He located the cameras; there were cameras at the front and back doors. After scanning the interior of the house, he located the structure layout, as well as the positions of the safe, hidden gun rack, and most importantly, the basement.

Of course, the garage location was also noted. An extensive garage extended from the short side of the L-shaped configuration, containing four parking spaces, two of which were empty.

After assessing the structure, Jimmy returned to his car, changed clothes and waited nearby. He waited until early morning and didn't see any cars arrive. Then, Jimmy headed back to Albany to rest. Upon waking, he went straight to the vicinity of Scott's PR firm to continue his observation.

Jimmy went back and forth several times, still with no sign of Scott. He also visited the Albany police department to check Scott's records. Ultimately, he decided to visit directly.

Knocking on the door under the pretense of being from the FBI, Jimmy entered Scott's villa. The woman who stayed in the villa was not surprised; she was Scott's wife. Citing a business fraud case involving Scott's PR firm, Jimmy asked about Scott's location and obtained his mobile number and location from his wife—Scott had gone to Los Angeles for business cooperation.

Jimmy took his leave and contacted Mahong to track the location. However, the result surprised Jimmy. Scott was indeed not in Albany, but unlike what his wife said about being in Los Angeles, he was in Albuquerque, New Mexico.

Jimmy was completely baffled. New York is in the northeastern part of the United States, bordering Canada, and New Mexico is in the southwest. The distance meant that his vacation wouldn't suffice for an investigation, so he reluctantly returned to New York to discuss further with Hughes.

Moreover, there was another reason: if this Scott was indeed his target, Azte would undoubtedly be in Albuquerque. If so, the situation might escalate significantly, and Hughes might not even let him proceed.
