Immortal Creed

Chapter 228: Misunderstanding

"That's enough. Let's head back to the city. During the healing process, I sensed a strong Light Element reaction within the city. Your bishop must be doing something."

After burying Earl Bard, Liens turned to Monica and said,

"Alright, Mr. Liens."

Monica nodded in response.

Then, the two quickly rushed towards the Inner City. As they traveled, Monica felt a lightness supporting her, allowing her to keep up with Liens.

Kara City, South District, the battlefield where the Inner City forces and the Rebel Army clashed.

Leinajin silently put down the communication token, which had been activated for a long time but remained unresponsive, his eyes filled with grief.

He hadn't expected that the Earl's words, "Continue," before the battle would be their last.

He desperately wanted to carry out the Earl's final command and continue fighting, but he knew they had lost this war.

When Liens, who had killed the Earl, returned to the city and joined the battlefield, they would be powerless to resist him. The only option now was to find a way to preserve the family's vital forces.

"Retreat!"

Leinajin heavily issued the retreat order, and the resounding horn blast followed.

"Whoosh—"

Watching the orderly retreat of the Inner City army, the high-ranking officers and soldiers of the Rebel Army turned their gaze to Ben, seemingly asking him if they should pursue.

Ben looked at Bishop Roxana not far away, then at the Inner City army, which, though demoralized, still maintained order, and realized that launching a pursuit at this moment was not a good option.

Doing so would not only offend the Bishop of Heavenly Light Church Church before them but might also re-ignite the enemy's morale, dragging the war into a more troublesome situation.

Once the news of the Earl's death was confirmed, their victory was practically secured.

All they needed to do next was to wait for Liens to return, or wait for some time for the enemy's morale to completely collapse, so they could easily defeat them when they launched another attack.

Of course, Ben also knew that the enemy's retreat back into the Inner City would likely increase the difficulty of their counterattack, as besieging a city was much harder than fighting on open ground.

After briefly weighing the pros and cons, Ben suppressed the Rebel Army's urge to pursue, allowing everyone, who had endured two consecutive battles that night, to rest temporarily.

Subsequently, Ben walked up to Bishop Roxana and politely inquired about Liens's condition: "Bishop Roxana, how is the person who fought Earl Bard?"

"What I saw was that Liens was severely wounded, but I have already arranged for the church's best priests to rush to treat him."

"If all goes well, by now, his injuries should at least be stabilized… Hmm, faster than I expected."

No sooner had Bishop Roxana finished speaking than two figures appeared, one after another, on the recently ceased battlefield.

"Bishop."

Monica quickly walked behind Bishop Roxana, while Liens quietly observed Bishop Roxana before him.

In his perception, although this Heavenly Light Church Bishop in a white robe also possessed a strong presence, she was far less threatening than Earl Bard.

His intuition told him that, even in his current weakened state, defeating Bishop Roxana would not be a very difficult task.

"Is it an illusion? Or does she have some special means of concealing her strength?"

"She's a second-rank Heavenly Light Church Bishop, after all. Why do I feel like she's only slightly stronger than Monica beside her?"

"It seems Bishop Roxana is hiding her strength very deeply."

Liens thought to himself.

The previous super-long-range observation combined with the current illusion successfully led him to misunderstand Bishop Roxana's strength, so his gaze towards her became even more serious.

"Bishop Roxana, hello. Thank you for specially sending Miss Monica to treat me outside the city."

"You are too kind, Liens…"

"Just call me Liens."

Liens fully displayed his respect for the strong, but his respectful address caused some misunderstanding for Bishop Roxana.

She looked at Liens, then glanced at Monica behind her, thinking that Liens seemed to be in his youth, and Monica's figure and appearance were very appealing to young men.

Could it be…

Bishop Roxana interpreted Liens's respectful address to her as respect for an elder, as she had a full understanding of her own strength.

Assisting was fine, but if she had to go up and fight someone herself, with her limited combat awareness, she might as well forget about it.

Liens sensed strange emotional information from Bishop Roxana, guessing that she was pondering his situation.

Although he didn't know what she was thinking, he didn't want to waste any more time, so he directly asked the question he cared about.

"Bishop Roxana, may I ask the reason for your presence on this battlefield?"

As soon as he arrived, he noticed the Bishop's figure and a group of clerics treating the wounded, and the war had stopped, but the Inner City army was nowhere to be seen.

So he was curious about what had happened. He guessed that Heavenly Light Church Church must have done something, as he had sensed a strong Light Element reaction in the city earlier.

Indeed, Bishop Roxana's explanation also confirmed what he had in mind.

"The outcome of the battle was already decided. I couldn't bear to see more innocent Lives lost in Kara City, so I intervened to stop this war. I hope Mr. Liens understands."

"I see, I understand… Although I also don't wish for innocent people to die, some people still need to accompany Earl Bard."

"Keeping them will only affect the future governance of Kara City. I don't want this city to have any Liens who arbitrarily oppress others again. If so, I don't mind accumulating more killing karma."

Liens turned to look at Ben and the Rebel Army high-ranking officers who had arrived beside Ben at some point. Although he didn't show anything, the meaning in his words was very clear.

Upon hearing this, some people met Liens's gaze seriously, while others lowered their heads, not daring to look him directly in the eye.

Monica, standing behind Bishop Roxana, looked at Liens like this, a glint of surprise flashing in her eyes.

Liens was not surprised by the reactions of those Rebel Army high-ranking officers; he had already learned about their character in the Instance .

Of course, the fact that there were more people with firm convictions than before still surprised him slightly.

"Sigh… Since Mr. Liens has made up his mind, I won't offer any more words of persuasion."

"I only hope that Mr. Liens and the generals of the Rebel Army can spare the innocent. The Inner City is not only nobles; many were coerced into joining the war."

"That's all I have to say. We won't disturb the Rebel Army any further. If you have time, I hope Mr. Liens can visit the church for a chat."

After speaking, Bishop Roxana signaled the clerics who had finished emergency treatment to return to the church in the East District.

After the church personnel left, Liens cautioned Ben: "Bishop Roxana is very strong. Don't provoke her lightly."

Ben nodded solemnly.
