Seth had always heard older co-workers complain about children growing up too fast. 'You are holding a baby in your arms one day, then you blink and the next day they are graduating high school'.
Of course, for them it was simply a morbid reminder about the passage of time and enjoying the youth of their children while it lasted. But for Seth it was a truly painful reality. He literally had his daughter age at a seriously concerning rate.
Thankfully, it seemed like she was steadying out. Her current age progression had actually taken less than a year and was in fact closer to 6 months, so it was even more concerning when it had happened.
But after Seth remembered the peculiarity of her birth, and Nixie's origins, he realised that he had seen this kind of ageing before. In Omelette.
In the span of 4 months, Omelette had grown from a tiny baby Wyvern that could fit in the palm of Seth's hand, to a tyrant of the skies that could comfortably carry multiple people on his back. But then he stopped, just like Nixie.
As far as Seth could tell, Nixie aged like a Dragon, but had her development represented in human terms. It was why she was born as a toddler, because Dragons were simply more developed at birth than humans. A fact he tried not to take offence to.
Then again, considering that a lot of animals came out of the womb walking while humans fumbled about like little dumb idiots for months before figuring that one out, it wasn't a new phenomena to get his mind around.
Like Omelette, whose human form was still that of a young child around the same age, Nixie must have been in her juvenile stage which seemed to age much slower than her infant stage. How much slower had yet to be seen, however.
So he planned to make the most of it while he could, and not spend too much time broken up about the fact he lost his adorable little angel before he could get a chance to truly appreciate that cuteness.
He only managed to take 100 pictures of her like that. It wasn't nearly enough!
Taking his mind away from this latest horror of life, Seth's avatar frowned softly and looked down at it's hand. He started at it for a few seconds, before his fingers started to wriggle as he typed on an invisible keyboard.
Fox glanced over, noticing what Seth was doing, and clicked his tongue in annoyance.
"You're doing it again."
"Huh? Doing what?"
"You're typing with two different bodies. Again. God, it's no wonder that girl caught you so easily. It just makes it more annoying that I never caught onto it too."
Seth frowned softly and looked at his hand again, letting out a soft chuckle when he realised what he was doing.
"Ah, Sorry about that. Even now I still get a little mixed up when I'm not focusing. You try controlling four bodies at once at all times, see how many things you get wrong. It's like the more advanced version of typing a word you just heard."
Fox chuckled softly as another two clones leapt from the mirror and charged into the fray with Nixie, to be swiftly obliterated by casual kicks and punches. Even though he was using clones, he couldn't actually compare to Seth's mental scattering, because his clones simply operated on their own.
They were perfect reflections of himself, down to the very thoughts he had. He wasn't controlling them, they acted completely independent as if they were him. They all knew to not try to kill Nixie, because that's what Fox himself would do in the same situation.
In total Seth had three Avatars, One was stationed here to keep an eye on his boys and help with training. Another was constantly posing as Lord Corvus, who was busy overseeing the expansion of his empire, and the third was currently in the south of the island helping Bob, Omelette and Carnifex with the expansion of said empire.
The fourth body he was in control of was naturally his real body.
After Lightbringer it became clear that staying in peace was simply not an option. So he expanded, taking over the rest of the Britain one city at a time. Even if he wanted to ignore them, they were a threat in his back garden just waiting to explode in his face, just like the Lightbringer or the Heart-eater.
Plus, there was also the issue of the Shattering. It was not a one time event. In fact It had happened another two times in the past year. However with Lee's help, and some of the deciphered knowledge from Prometheus, they were able to control it in the areas they controlled.
Avatar three was currently standing on the top of a shoddily constructed wall, hands in his pockets as Omelette flew over head, letting out fearsome roars that shuddered the air in an attempt to dissuade the people below from fighting a helpless fight.
It was a dissuasion they took to heart, as many tossed their weapons to the side and dropped to their knees in defeat. For those who didn't... Well, that's what his boys were here for.
The defeat of the city was not bloodless, as much as Seth would have liked it to be, but he was not a Tyrant either. Once the last of the resistance had fallen, he was quick to send in his delegates to take over the control of the city and sort out any issues that had developed from past leadership.
It was always a mixed bag what he was going to get. Some stemmed from straight up communism, to a full return to feudalism like Ravenkeep. One was even an entire nudist colony hidden behind an illusion that they had simply stumbled across by accident.
That one had come peacefully, and simply accepted their new leadership with smiles on their faces and arms open wide. Much to the joy of some of the delegates that enjoyed the new scenery. He had to keep an extra close eye on that one to make sure that no one took their... free spirited nature with clothing as an invitation to do what they wanted.
Since Avatar three wasn't needing to help make this city into fire and ash, and since everything was going well here without any assistance needed at all, Seth diverted his attention away from it and focused back on Nixie's training.
Watching her weave through the Fox clones effortlessly, blasting them off with a single punch and stopping their blades with her bare arms, Seth tapped his chin in thought. Fox was going easy on her, mainly because it would be over too quickly if he didn't, but it was clear that this was too easy.
She had time to apologise, to lose her focus and to barely try. She wasn't even using her full strength. All this was doing was training her to be sloppy, lazy and carefree. Traits that would get her killed.
Letting out a deep sigh, Seth stood taller as if it would make what he was about to say even easier. But it didn't.
"Graham... Step it up. Overwhelm her until she can't take anymore."
Fox frowned softly, glancing at Seth with a hint of hesitation in his eyes. Even as he said this, a new reflection of himself manifested in the mirror and stared blankly ahead as if it was waiting for someone to step in front and give it some action to copy.
"Are you sure? She's still young, it might be a bit much for her."
"I know... But I can't have her dying out there because I was too soft on her."
A smile tugged at Fox's lips as he nodded in agreement, a hint of pride oozing from the older gentlemen as he patted Seth on the shoulder.
"I couldn't have said it better myself."
Just like before, another clone of Fox leapt from the mirror and immediately broke into a sprint. But before it could even make it a full step away, another reflection stepped out hot on its heels. Then another, and another, and another.
An entire army poured from that mirror, clambering over each other and dragging themselves from the reflective doorway.
Ducking under a sword strike, Nixie spun and kicked away another clone with a round house kick before letting out a sigh of relief. She took a second to catch her breath, before feeling the ground rumbling underneath her feet.
When she turned and saw the identical army charging towards her, she did not recoil in fear nor panic. Instead she clenched her fists even tighter, a stern expression settling on her face as her silver eyes shone with determination.
Nixie stood firm, like the boulder ready to face down the charging river and remain unmoving. Under her breath, she muttered softly.
"Don't worry Dad... I'll make you proud. I can be just like you, just watch!"
