Threads of the Soul

Chapter 400: Sparkle Power Transform

The various crab creatures stared at the metal crate in confusion. It had come out of no where, slammed down into the ground and then just... sat there for the next few seconds. They exchanged confused looks, before all coming to the same crabby conclusion.

Enough waiting, it was feasting time.

They all burst forwards at once. Those with legs scuttled with fury, while those without swam ferociously through the air as if it was sea water. Of all the crustations gathered, whether it be the Colossal Crab, The Man-Crab, the Shark-Crab, the Mer-crab or the... you get the point. Of all the various deadly and horrifying crab creatures that was currently charging towards him, the last one Scar expected to reach him first was the one that had evolved out of a fish.

It looked like a carp that had, like many others, become crabby in its evolution. However the spiked legs that grew out of it grew out of its top and bottom, forcing the fish body to lay on its side as it ferociously scuttled towards him.

It's fishy tail flapped, its mouth flapping open and closed in a truly terrifying manner, and its beady blade eyes stared forwards with unblinking malice. Somehow, this deformed mistake of nature was the first to reach him, which meant it was the first to die.

KRAKOOM!

A smirk played on Scar's lips as the giant metal fish extracted itself from the crater it had just created. Strings of fish guts connecting the knuckles to the broken mess of seafood at the centre of the crater.

The crustations stopped in their charge, staring at the box once more, still in utter confusion yet this time there was an overlay of fear.

The box clicked and clacked as it shifted itself even more. It had already grown a giant metal arm, but it had more to change than just that. The walls of the box opened outwards, twirling and folding in on themselves as they took on a new form.

Legs sprouted from the base as the box lifted itself up on them, the footfalls of these colossal legs shifting their weight caused the ground to tremble and deep footprints to be left in the stone. Another arm sprouted from the box, its parts unfolding like paper as they clicked together. Newly formed fingers flexed and clenched into a fist.

The flat walls became curved, and when they came back together they formed the torso of the 10 metre tall giant made of pure steel. Well, it was more of a blend of multiple different metals, most of which were smelted from newly evolved stone while others were created from scratch by a mixture of science and magic.

The entire colossus was a mixture of science and magic, the culmination of all of Scientist 18's work over the last decade, most of which happened in the last year. Runes were intricately carved into the Colossus' body, pulsing with soft light as it straightened up and grew used to its size.

It was styled after the knights of old, clearly taking inspiration from their own giant knight Carnifex. The eyes behind it's ventilated mouthguard, and underneath the helmet styled head, glowed a dazzling pink before the Colossal knight began to move once more.

It leapt into the air, spinning as it did so, and landed with its legs spread. It slammed one hand into its hip and thrust the other high in the air, pointing to the sky. A deep rumbling voice echoed from within the hollow knight.

"Sparkle Power, Transform!"

The Crustaceans hissed in outrage, resuming their charge as they scuttled and swam towards the Colossal Knight Daisy in her lovely new armour. 18 was right, while this magi-science mecha had been designed for with a pilot in mind - which is why it had an empty chest cavity with controls inside - it was even more perfect for someone like her.

Daisy shifted from her idol pose, sinking into a defensive stance with one arm raised in front of her. Along the forearm, there was a rectangular growth on her armour and, with a singular thought, that growth unfolded.

A tower shield clacked out of her arm, one panel at a time, and flashed as the defensive runes carved into its surface were finally aligned. Mana ran through every single enchantment carved into this behemoth, fuelled entirely by the headless ghost girl possessing it.

From her hip, she plucked a metal rod. Brushing her thumb against the runic carving on this rod was enough to activate it. Just like the shield had done, a sword blade sprung from the containment of the rod, the individual parts quickly clicking together as they unfolded.

As soon as it formed, Daisy charged forwards. Her foot crushing one of the crabominations with a sickening crunch, while she punted another far over the docked ships and sent it sailing into the sea far below.

The Colossal Crab's claws raked against her shield while her sword clanged off of its natural, ashen armour.

They clashed a few times, her sword swings carving apart the land whenever she missed or simply catching the smaller crustations on the back swings. When one got the bright ahead to clamber onto her armour and try to pry open her shell with its razor sharp pincers, the crabs were quickly educated that this was more than simple armour.

Within the Magi-mech, an array of crystals pulsed with stored energy that quickly poured through the make shift wiring and into the eyes, before twin streams of bubble-gum pink energy blasted from the eye sockets and cooked the crab in its shell.

Scar chuckled softly as he watched the battle of valiant, yet absolutely giant, knight versus dozens of crab monsters. It strangely reminded him of the start of so many video games and yet weirdly also the late game of the same video games.

When Daisies sword bounced off of the crabs shell once again, Scar chuckled again and raised his voice to shout over the chaos of the battle.

"Remember what I taught you! Control your spirit energy, form it around the blade. Make it harder, sharper. Also, stop aiming for the armour! Aim for the bits between the armour, Joints ands soft spots!"

She didn't need to answer as she quickly adjusted to his advice, changing her executioners chop of a swing from being aimed at its heavily armoured back to being directed at its leg. It was a poor aim, since it was such a last minute change, causing the sword to hit armour once more only to slide off and fail to cut through it.

However, the angle that it slid off thankfully caused the blade to slide into the joint, letting it drop into flesh.

The Colossal Crab let out a shrill, nail dragging shriek once more as it quickly moved away. It wasn't enough to cut the leg clean off, but it definitely had a limp in one of its legs. It was just a shame that it had seven more to compensate.

As Daisy retreated, accidently crushing a semi-humanoid crab underneath her heel as she did so, she tightened her grip on the sword. If her head were capable of expression, Scar was sure it would have been scrunched up in concentration.

A wisp of pink flames appeared along the blade, not enough to fully coat it just yet, but the flamingo flames were steadily growing as she concentrated, only for them to disperse whenever she had to block or attack.

Scar nodded at that result. It was to be expected, but that was also part of her training. Learning how to concentrate on her abilities in the heat of battle really was best trained actually in the heat of battle. To be honest was there really any better place?

Leaning forwards slightly, Scar pushed off against the ground and launched himself through the battlefield, his form becoming nothing more than a black blur to the crustations. However he actively avoided them.

Charging through them would have easily killed them, and barely hurt him. But these were Daisy's training dummies. He had his buffet to enjoy.

He launched off the cliff, his cloak flapping dramatically in the wind. As soon as gravity started to take hold of him, trying to drag him down to the violent waves smashing against the cliff, Scar turned himself into a spirit.

Soaring into the air on a wave of spiritual energy, Scar loomed over the stranded ships as he narrowed his eyes at the crew aboard them. They scampered across the various decks in a panic. They were desperate.

Arming themselves with weapons, trying to get their ships moving once again or trying to reload the cannons for another volley. Whatever they were doing, from Scar's perspective they were like miserable little ants scampering around under the intense heat of a magnifying glass, trying not to be incinerated by its ray.

The problem with the magnifying glass though, was it was slow and precise. It was for targeting individual ants at a time, not entire colonies like this looked like. Daisy was supposed to use them as her training partners, but now they were his issue, at least for now.

What he needed was a hose.

Scar spread his arms wide, the shadows of his cloak appearing like an endless void in his spirit form. From within that void, a pair of eyes shone brightly. Then another, and another. Until hundreds of eyes lit up the darkness like stars in the night sky.
