What is an immortal?

Chapter 98: Leveraging Momentum

Yuan Ming shook his head and was about to continue moving forward when a sudden hissing of numerous snakes and a clutter of bird calls erupted from deep within the flowerbeds. It seemed that the White Eagle and the green snakes among the flowers had started fighting, causing the fog within the flowers to churn incessantly.

However, the place where the eagle and snake were fighting seemed deep within the flowerbeds, quite far from the outside, making it hard to see the specifics.

"That White Eagle seems to have headed straight for the flowerbeds; could it be aiming to snatch a few green snakes for a meal?" Yuan Ming squinted his eyes, circulated the Moonlight Technique, and his Divine Soul left his body, drifting towards the depths of the flowerbeds.

The Divine Soul, being a yin body, felt quite uncomfortable venturing out in daylight, but it was bearable since the distance was not too great.

Encountering a decent Fierce Beast was rare, and missing the opportunity always felt frustrating.

The poison of the pollen was harmful to the human body but had no effect on the soul body, so Yuan Ming's Divine Soul reached deeper into the flowerbeds without any trouble and stopped there.

This was the limit of how far his Divine Soul could leave his body, he could not proceed further, but fortunately, he could now see both the White Eagle and the green snakes.

He peered intently, and couldn't help but let out a soft gasp of surprise.

The White Eagle was circling low, swooping down now and then.

On the ground below, the green snakes gathered, forming a huddle of hundreds that opposed the eagle.

Amidst the group of snakes was an enormous green python, many times thicker than the other green snakes. Its body was covered with armor-like bright green Scale Armor, and it had a jade-green growth resembling a sole horn on its head; it appeared to be the Snake King.

This Snake King was coiled in a snake cake shape, lying across a not-so-small pit under it, which densely filled with dozens of Green Snake Eggs.

The target of the White Eagle seemed to be these eggs; each dive was aimed directly at the pit, while the Snake King and other green snakes desperately resisted.

The Scale Armor of the Snake King was tough and durable, its strength immense and its speed extraordinarily swift, blocking most of the attacks from the White Eagle. The remaining attacks were taken by other green snakes, and the outcome of who would prevail was not yet clear.

Seeing this scene, Yuan Ming suddenly came up with an idea, his Divine Soul swiftly left and quickly returned to his body.

He muttered to himself, green hues flickered on his skin, his aura began to recede, and soon he blended perfectly with the nearby bushes—to the extent that even someone standing beside wouldn't notice him.

As for his Mana aura, it was completely concealed, clearly the effect of the Wood Concealment Skill.

A yellow rabbit ran over from nearby, gnawing on a weed resembling lettuce in the bushes.

Yuan Ming raised an eyebrow and waved at the yellow rabbit, which, notorious for its vigilance, didn't notice at all.

"The effects of this Wood Concealment Skill are not bad," he nodded silently, held his breath, and walked toward the flowerbeds.

The yellow rabbit heard the noise and then became aware of Yuan Ming's presence, rapidly scampering away.

Yuan Ming paid it no mind and quickly reached the edge of the flowerbeds, stopping in his tracks.

As far as he knew, typical poisonous pollen entered the body through respiration, causing poisoning, but these pink lotuses didn't look like typical poisonous substances. Whether holding breath would isolate him needed to be tested.

After a few breaths passed, his body showed no abnormalities, his nerves relaxed, he quickly held his breath and entered the flowerbed.

The venomous snakes inside the flowerbed seemed to have all been lured away by the White Eagle; Yuan Ming didn't encounter a single one and quickly reached the spot where his Divine Soul had stood, looking towards the ongoing battle.

The White Eagle dove down again, still blocked by the Snake King and the other green snakes.

The White Eagle let out a sharp screech, apparently infuriated, its broad wings suddenly vibrating intensely, causing a storm around it, bending down many pink lotuses, cracking and tearing leaves in the process.

Fierce winds whisked away many green snakes, and the Snake King was also blown swaying from side to side, moving slightly away from the pit.

The White Eagle's talons turned into two dark shadows, aiming straight for the snake eggs within the pit.

The Snake King, furious, snapped its vast jaws directly at the White Eagle's talons while also fiercely whipping its tail at the White Eagle's body.

With a loud "bang", the White Eagle's substantial body was struck by the snake's tail, feathers breaking and floating down—clearly a deep dent was visible at the hit spot, seriously injured.

But the White Eagle's talons had broken past the Snake King's defense and successfully grabbed two snake eggs, flapping its wings to fly high.

Yuan Ming had been waiting for that moment, his right hand formed a spell and pointed out.

Suddenly, several lotus stems in the nearby flowerbeds rose from the ground, elongating like ropes in the wind, and wrapped around the White Eagle's body, halting its ascendancy.

The green Snake King, initially fuming with shock and anger, watching this scene, immediately let out a hissing sound, its body shot upwards, taking advantage of the unsteady state of the White Eagle to quickly coil around its body, even securely binding one of its wings.

Taken by surprise, the White Eagle plummeted to the ground.

The Snake King opened its vast jaws and clamped down on the White Eagle's neck, the other green snakes also pounced.

The White Eagle struggled furiously in anger, but since its wing was restrained by the Snake King, relying solely on its talons and sharp beak, it couldn't stop the multitude of green snakes, soon swallowed by the mass of snakes.

Yuan Ming's expression subtly changed upon witnessing this scene.

He had interfered with the White Eagle to let the group of snakes injure it, intending to take the opportunity to tame it, but he hadn't expected the Snake King to react so swiftly and trap the White Eagle almost instantly.

If the eagle were to die here, all his calculations would be thwarted.

Yuan Ming activated a spell, this time casting the Wood Stabbing Technique.

The ground near the pit "crashed," and five sharp wooden thorns emerged, piercing into the cluster of snakes, brutally skewering over a dozen green snakes, and two thorns even stabbed into the body of the Snake King.

The Snake King had not anticipated an attack at this time and screamed in agony, its body wrapped around the White Eagle loosening.

The nearby lotus stems extended again, this time aiming for the Snake King, wrapping around its body.

The White Eagle narrowly escaped death and immediately displayed the previously used Wind-Blowing Divine Power, flapping its wings rapidly, casting shadows in its wake.

A gust of wind suddenly erupted, blasting all the surrounding green snakes away, and the Snake King was also flung several feet away.

Seizing the opportunity, the White Eagle flapped its wings and took off, somewhat unsteadily ascending into the sky, heading deep into the swamp.

The Snake King roared at the White Eagle a few times but did not pursue futilely, with the White Eagle disappearing into the mist shortly after.

Not far away, Yuan Ming also disappeared from the flowers.

The White Eagle barely flapped its wings, heading toward its old nest deep in the swamp.

It regularly preyed on various poisonous snakes in the swamp, especially the green-banded snakes among the pink lotuses, and had developed some resistance to snake venom, but this time it fell into a swarm of snakes, bitten by who knows how many green-banded snakes, especially the venom from the Snake King, which was fierce. At this moment, the White Eagle's body was limp, and its flying speed was not even half of what it once was.

The White Eagle was quite powerful, and its spiritual intelligence was nearly comparable to a human's. A hint of anthropomorphic hatred flashed in its eyes; it had almost died in that group of green-banded snakes. Once it recovered from its injuries, it would surely seek revenge.

However, the recent strangeness of the lotus stems was quite peculiar, as far as it knew, the green-banded snakes did not possess the ability to manipulate flora.

The White Eagle suddenly remembered that right before entering the flowers, that cultivator hiding in the bushes, could it have been his doing?

At that moment, a green shadow flashed through the mist nearby, and a green long sword shot out, aiming straight for the White Eagle's chest.

Taken by surprise, the White Eagle quickly dodged to the side, narrowly avoiding the long sword's blade.

The sword, which should have missed, suddenly turned its direction as if driven by an invisible hand, and with a "puff," it stabbed into one of the White Eagle's wings, penetrating through.

The White Eagle, already struggling to fly, now with a wing severely damaged, immediately plunged downward.

Yuan Ming, holding an incense burner in one hand, emerged following the green long sword, pursuing relentlessly.

Upon seeing Yuan Ming, the White Eagle was momentarily stunned and then furiously understood that the earlier anomalies were all his doing.

Its uninjured wing suddenly unfolded, a burst of blue light emitting from its surface.

Shoo, shoo, shoo!

Dozens of feathers shot out, emitting a piercing screech, heading towards Yuan Ming.

These feathers were not shot randomly; each had a specific target, and although there were only a few, they sealed off all of Yuan Ming's possible escape routes.

Yuan Ming's expression darkened, his Divine Soul Power sensing the direction of the feathers, he immediately interrupted the Exorcism Technique.

The green light on the incense burner suddenly vanished, and he fell downwards along with the incense burner.

The White Eagle had predicted all possible directions Yuan Ming could dodge, but it had not expected him to suddenly plummet, causing all feathers to miss.

Yuan Ming once again displayed the Exorcism Technique, the green light rekindling on the incense burner, stabilizing his body.

The White Eagle, both shocked and angry, was about to strike again when a green shadow shot out from the other side—it was the Green Fish Sword. With a "puff," it pierced through the wing that was still intact.

The White Eagle, now with both wings damaged, could no longer stabilize its form and fell downwards, crash-landing into a puddle, splashing water everywhere.

A bush near the puddle flashed green, as numerous branches swiftly extended, wrapping around the body of the White Eagle, instantly forming a cage of branches.

The White Eagle, both shocked and furious, struggled desperately to break free.

Its strength far exceeded that of the previous green snakes and the Gray Fox. The cage of branches shook violently; however, these branches were much sturdier than the previous grass cages. Although the cage swayed left and right, there were no signs of damage.

Yuan Ming floated down from midair, landing in front of the White Eagle, he placed one hand on the eagle's head, starting to cast the Beast Taming Technique.

Streams of black energy flowed from the palm of his hand, like a starving wolf seeing delicious prey, flowing completely into the head of the White Eagle.

The White Eagle's body shuddered violently, emitting a painful cry as its body twitched and struggled again.

However, given its current state, such struggles were pointless; it had no chance of breaking free from the cage of branches.

Yuan Ming concentrated on casting the Beast Taming Technique, and soon a quarter of an hour had passed.

The White Eagle showed no signs of submission, its will to resist seeming even stronger than before.

Yuan Ming was not surprised; considering the eagle's combat performance against the snakes, its strength definitely reached the Level 1 Upper Stage, not so easily subdued.

However, he was not overly worried. His Mana had achieved the Sixth Level of Qi Refinement, and after mastering the first level of the Moonlight Technique, his Divine Soul Power had far surpassed those of the same realm. As long as there were no external disturbances, he could continue to cast the Beast Taming Technique for up to two hours if necessary.

Such prolonged casting had exceeded the capabilities of a typical Qi Refining Stage Cultivator, and Yuan Ming did not believe there was any Level 1 Fierce Beast that could withstand it.

The only concern was the intensity of the casting, which must be carefully controlled to avoid accidentally destroying the White Eagle's Divine Soul, which would render all his efforts wasted.
