What is an immortal?

Chapter 394: Strange Tales from Overseas

"A world apart? Senior, your words might be a bit exaggerated," Yuan Ming said, somewhat disbelieving.

"The power of a Spiritual Treasure is beyond your imagination. The Night Parade of Hundred Demons and the Cold Moon Ring on your body are merely replicas that I crafted. They are far from the true Spiritual Treasures, which are extremely rare. Across the entire Central Plains Immortal Cultivation World, there are probably no more than three," the Shura Master said, giving Yuan Ming a glance.

"Cold Moon Ring? Are you referring to this ring?" Yuan Ming raised his right hand, revealing the white ring on it.

"Correct. In my early years, I fortuitously obtained the method to refine the Ancient Spiritual Treasure known as the Nine Palaces Cold Moon Ring. Unfortunately, due to various limitations, I only managed to produce this replica, which possesses less than thirty percent of the original's power," the Shura Master sighed.

Yuan Ming was stunned. He could not sense the runes within the Cold Moon Ring; he could only activate some of its rather shallow powers through Mana, which were already astonishingly strong. If he could unleash the power of the runes, he couldn't imagine how formidable it would be.

If such a Cold Moon Ring was still less than thirty percent of a true Spiritual Treasure's power, then indeed, the power of a true Spiritual Treasure was unimaginable.

"Spiritual Treasures have other miraculous properties. If you have the chance to seize the Shura Blood Devouring Map located on the next level, you will naturally understand," the Shura Master added.

"The Shura Blood Devouring Map you mentioned, could it be..." Yuan Ming suddenly thought of something.

"Correct, it is the Spiritual Treasure I just showed you in the memory, the Night Parade of Hundred Demons is modeled after the Shura Blood Devouring Map. The spiritual materials are different, and I made some adjustments to the runes as well, resulting in significant differences in their Divine Skills. The Shura Blood Devouring Map is not an ordinary Spiritual Treasure. My Spirit Talisman will ensure your safety, but whether you can subdue it still depends on your own abilities," the Shura Master said.

Yuan Ming nodded, taking these words to heart before asking, "May I ask Senior, since the Night Parade of Hundred Demons was crafted by you, it should be kept within the Shura Palace. Why did it appear outside?"

"I placed the Night Parade of Hundred Demons just inside the outermost hall of the Shura Palace. The Wanderer Heavenly Ghost, who entered here before the Shura Palace came into existence, accidentally took the Night Parade of Hundred Demons," the Shura Master explained.

"I see," Yuan Ming nodded.

"Although the Night Parade of Hundred Demons and the Cold Moon Ring are both replicas, they both have potential. If you can cultivate to the Returning Void Realm in the future, you might try advancing them to full-fledged Spiritual Treasures," the Shura Master said again.

"Thank you for your auspicious words, Senior. I will do my best. Just a question, Senior Luo, the memory you showed mentioned that the Shura Blood Devouring Map was bestowed by a visitor from Overseas. Could that Senior also be a Returning to Void Cultivator? Is he still alive in this world?" Yuan Ming continued.

The Shura Master unusually fell silent for a long while before slowly shaking his head and smiling bitterly:

"I'm not very clear about that person's cultivation background or whether he's alive. After I entered the Returning Void, I searched the entire Yunhuang Continent but couldn't find any clues left by him. Perhaps he has already returned overseas," he said.

"The Stele outside the Black Tower records that you, Senior, have traveled overseas. What is that place really like?" Yuan Ming asked curiously.

"Do you know what 'overseas' refers to?" the Shura Master countered without answering.

"To be honest, before entering the Shura Palace, I had never heard of the Overseas World. According to the text you engraved on the stele outside the tower, it should be the world outside the Yunhuang Continent, right?" Yuan Ming said.

"Correct," the Shura Master replied.

"I've heard that the East Sea Area is vast with innumerable islands and abundant resources, known for being inexhaustible. Is that also part of the Overseas World?" Yuan Ming asked.

"The East Sea Area is only the near sea, worlds apart from the true Overseas World," the Shura Master said, shaking his head, gazing into the distance with a reminiscent expression.

Yuan Ming didn't speak, waiting quietly.

"Overseas is a place completely different from the Yunhuang Continent. In a word, it is a gigantic world," the Shura Master said after a moment of silence.

"Gigantic? In what way is it vast?" Yuan Ming asked, somewhat puzzled.

"Everything there is, whether it be the waves, the storms, or the demon beasts living there. Can you imagine waves tens of thousands of meters high, tornado columns connecting the heavens and the earth, or giant birds with wings spread wide enough to cover the sky? These are common sights overseas," the Shura Master said.

Yuan Ming opened his mouth but was at a loss for words.

"I've visited overseas three times. The first time from the Northern Desert, crossing the nearby Nether Sea, it took three years to reach the overseas region. I encountered a gray sea mist filled with Yin Qi. I flew for eleven years without being able to escape it, and my body was almost eroded into a ghost body by the Yin Qi in the mist. The gray mist also had hallucinatory effects. If not for accidentally discovering the 'All Living Beings' Dream' Rune, I would have died there. With the help of the All Living Beings' Dream Rune, I resisted the illusions and barely escaped the gray mist, returning to Yunhuang," the Shura Master said.

"Boundless gray mist? Could that be some kind of natural disaster overseas?" Yuan Ming asked, startled.

"Not a natural disaster. After further exploration and deduction, I found it to be just a common sea mist there," the Shura Master shook his head and said.

Yuan Ming stood bewildered on the spot, realizing that an ordinary sea fog had nearly claimed the life of a Returning to Void Cultivator, sufficiently highlighting the dangers of the Overseas.

"The second time I set out from the Southern Border, flew over the Stone Dried Sea and reached Overseas, I found the waters there extremely corrosive, making it difficult to land. I flew for months before spotting a gray island among the vast waves. Just as I was about to land on it and rest, I discovered it was actually a giant beast sleeping in the sea. Unbeknownst to me, I was poisoned by a cunning toxin, presumably intrinsic to the beast. Once I started casting, the pain became unbearable, and I had no choice but to turn back. It took me a full twenty years to finally expel the poison from my body," Shura Master recounted.

"The third, and final time, I originally headed to the East Sea, trying to find the legendary Three Immortals Island. After spending ten years, I hadn't found the Immortal Island, but instead drifted away from the coastal areas. Then, I encountered a tsunami that lasted for years. Hardly managing to survive that, I came across a tree demon as large as a mountain. I did not wish to provoke it, yet the tree demon was exceptionally belligerent and attacked. Unable to escape, I had no choice but to engage in a prolonged battle for over a month, only to be grievously defeated with my Nascent Soul crushed by the tree demon," Shura Master said.

"Such a formidable tree demon?" Yuan Ming inhaled sharply.

"I thought I was utterly doomed when suddenly, a giant maw emerged from the seabed and clamped onto the massive tree. It turned out to be an enormous sea turtle. As the two titanic beasts fought, I seized the chance to burn my Essence Blood and displayed the Blood Escape Divine Ability, barely escaping with my life. After that, I had no more chances to recover and thus ended my journey," Shura Master spoke calmly.

Upon hearing this, Yuan Ming was deeply shaken and remained silent for a long time.

"The Overseas World is filled with mystery and extreme danger. Even Nascent Souls and Returning to Void Cultivators have little advantage there, resembling ordinary humans. A storm or a sea fog can claim lives. Young man, if one day you also reach the Returning Void Realm, heed my advice—do not lightly venture into Overseas. Even if you go, you must prepare thoroughly. Relying solely on high cultivation to forcibly cross would merely result in your tale being a laughable story for future generations," Shura Master somberly sighed.

"How is this a laughing matter? The world is full of cowards, of those who willingly debase themselves; what right do they have to mock you, Senior? Besides, your experiences are immensely valuable. Those who later dare to explore Overseas should be grateful that you marked the path for them. Should someone manage to venture into those lands, their first thought should be to thank you, Senior, for guiding their way," Yuan Ming said resolutely.

"If that day really comes, I can then be truly without regrets," Shura Master perked up a bit upon hearing these words.

"What you may not know, Senior, is that before I stepped into the world of Cultivation, I made my living by writing travelogues and handling literary arts in Da Jin, where I was somewhat well-known. If you permit, I would like to write a travelogue about your explorations Overseas, so they may be passed down through the ages and not let your hardships be in vain," Yuan Ming proposed.

"Oh? You can write? I had similar thoughts once, but unfortunately, I lack the talent in literature. If you could produce such a book, it would indeed settle a matter for me. Here are some records of my three Overseas explorations for your reference," Shura Master said as he took out a Jade Scroll and handed it over.

"I will devote myself fully to it," Yuan Ming accepted the Jade Scroll and spoke earnestly.

"It's rare to see someone be so dedicated to my affairs; take this then," Shura Master gestured, and a cluster of pitch-black mist appeared out of nowhere, whirling with a whooshing sound.

"Is this Demonic Qi?" Yuan Ming's pupils constricted.

"Heh, you know about Demonic Qi? Although it occasionally descends on the Yunhuang Continent, not many are aware of this term," Shura Master expressed slight surprise, pressing down with his palm.

The black mist rushed towards Yuan Ming, splitting in two not towards his body but into the two Spiritual Beast Bags at his waist.

Yuan Ming was startled and hastily sent out his Divine Sense to check, only to see the Demonic Qi entering both the purple-black cocoon formed by Hua Zhi and the body of Vajra.

At this moment, Hua Zhi was fiercely refining the demon energy of the Blood Willow. The influx of Demonic Qi immediately made its aura extremely active, accelerating the refining process of the Blood Willow by several folds.

In just a few breaths, Hua Zhi's demonic power surged, breaking through the Level 3 boundary.

Since the Blood Willow was a Level 4 Demon Beast, though much of its demon energy had dissipated upon being killed, what remained was still immensely dense. After Hua Zhi broke through to Level 3, there was still plenty of unrefined demon energy left.

Hua Zhi did not stop but continued to refine the corpse of the Blood Willow, its aura rising once more.

Vajra absorbed the Demonic Qi, undergoing a transformation as it grew significantly taller, with a popping sound like frying beans emanating from its legs, and strange black patterns emerged on its leg bones.

"The spirit beasts by your side seem to have a remarkable origin and great potential. If they can absorb a lot of Demonic Qi, their cultivation might even advance faster than yours. When I ventured out to sea back then, I collected quite a bit of Demonic Qi, which I have now given to your spirit beasts. It should help them advance further," Shura Master explained.

"Thank you, Senior," Yuan Ming expressed his gratitude.

"The Demonic Qi in this land of Yunhuang originates from Overseas. Where did the Demonic Qi in these two demon beasts of yours come from?" Shura Master suddenly frowned.

"I once spent some time in the Southern Border and accidentally entered a place called Snake King Valley. There was an Underground Palace beneath it where some Demonic Qi had accumulated, and these two spirit beasts absorbed the Demonic Qi there," Yuan Ming explained.

"Snake King Valley? I seem to have never heard of it; perhaps it has changed its name over these three thousand years? Well, it doesn't matter now that I cannot leave this place. Even if I knew, it would be of no use. However, if you have the chance in the future, you should still check it out. Places with Demonic Qi always have something extraordinary," Shura Master noted.

Yuan Ming nodded, taking the advice to heart.

Seeing that there were no other matters to discuss, Shura Master then raised his hand, and a door surrounded by a faint white glow materialized before Yuan Ming.
