What is an immortal?

Chapter 523: First Arrival on Immortal Island

Yuan Ming gazed at the increasingly distant figures of Yan Xiang and Lei He, took a deep breath, and took out two high-grade Wood Attribute Spirit Stones to replenish his Mana as he continued forward.

After about an hour, Yan Xiang and Lei He had flown far ahead, visible only as two indistinct black dots.

The prohibitive barrier above the lake did not affect Divine Sense, so though Yuan Ming was slower in tunneling speed compared to Yan Xiang and Lei He, he was still clear about the situation ahead.

In the past hour, two Dragon Tooth Crystals appeared ahead, with Yan Xiang and Lei He each snatching one. No more appeared afterwards.

Yuan Ming felt unwilling in his heart, but he kept pushing his Mana forward without stopping; the replenishment from the Spirit Stones was simply not fast enough. He was now showing signs of weariness, and the distance to Yan Xiang and Lei He was growing larger, let alone vying for Dragon Tooth Crystals.

His concentration divided, the protective shield around his body began to tremble, and an inadvertent gust of wind swept from the side, pushing him back several yards.

Yuan Ming quickly stabilized his mind and barely managed to stop his body, struggling to maintain the protective shield.

He wiped the sweat from his forehead and looked again at the still distant Immortal Island, sighing inwardly.

His ability to contend with Nascent Soul cultivators relied on the sharpness of his Soul Cultivation Divine Power and Magic Treasures, but against the relentless towering winds, his Soul Cultivation Divine Power and those few Magic Treasures were useless, and the gap in Mana between him and Nascent Soul cultivators was undeniably exposed.

At this rate, solely relying on his own Mana, he might not be able to cross this lake.

Yuan Ming came to a halt and simply stopped to ponder a strategy.

Considering the situation when he approached Yan Xiang and Lei He earlier, summoning Lei Yu would only increase the wind force.

The only plan for now was to rely on himself, in other words, he had to think of a way using a Magic Treasure.

Only his Magic Treasures were earmarked for combat, which offered little effect against this natural disaster.

Yuan Ming's eyes suddenly brightened, and with a pat on his Storage Bag, he took out a green round orb.

"I had almost forgotten about this Wind Stabilizing Pearl after putting it aside for so long," he said with a smile, pouring his Mana into the pearl.

In a flash, rings of green light rippled out, covering an area of several yards around him, weakening the oncoming fierce wind by ninety percent.

The remaining ten percent of the wind pressure was no longer a concern for him.

"The Wind Stabilizing Pearl really is useful!" Yuan Ming exclaimed joyfully, flying forward.

At that moment, however, his body suddenly paused, and a thought emerged in his heart, "Could this Wind Stabilizing Pearl from the Six Desires Venerable have been meant specifically for use here?"

He immediately shook his head to dispel this somewhat absurd thought and accelerated his speed toward the Immortal Mountain.

Thirty minutes later, Yan Xiang and Lei He, who were struggling to move forward in the wind, simultaneously turned their heads in disbelief to look at Yuan Ming, who seemed to be strolling leisurely through the wind.

"In my earlier years, I was fortunate enough to acquire a Magic Treasure that provides wind resistance. I just remembered it. If the two venerables have something similar, it should also greatly reduce the pressure," Yuan Ming bade them cheerfully with a cupped fist salute, then continued to fly ahead, easily widening the not-so-short distance from Yan Xiang and Lei He.

Just at that moment, a flash of white light ahead revealed another Dragon Tooth Crystal.

Yuan Ming's tunneling light intensified, and he doubled his speed in an instant, capturing the Dragon Tooth Crystal into his bag.

Yan Xiang and Lei He intended to snatch it, but Yuan Ming had already secured the crystal.

A flash of helplessness crossed Lei He's face, while Yan Xiang clenched his fist in secret, a flash of coldness in his eyes.

However, soon Yan Xiang took a deep breath, adjusted his mood, and flew toward the left front, widening the distance from Yuan Ming in hopes that a Dragon Tooth Crystal would appear there as well.

The golden summit seemed so close ahead and became increasingly clear, yet the distance was far greater than any of the three had imagined; regardless of how they flew, there was no sense of getting closer—it felt very much like a fool's errand.

Fortunately, aside from the fierce wind, there seemed to be no other danger over this lake.

Clenching their teeth, the three of them persevered and finally reached the golden summit on the third day.

Yuan Ming was the first to set foot on the golden lake heart island. The moment he left the lake surface, he felt that the spiritual energy of heaven and earth in the void around him was much richer, and the Mana he had just exhausted seemed to surge back to fullness.

He sat down cross-legged to practice Breathing Control, and after a while, his Mana was fully recovered, returning to the state he was in three days before.

In that short period of time, Yan Xiang and Lei He also set foot on the Immortal Island, sensing the primordial Qi around them. Their gloomy and weary faces brightened slightly.

In these three days, Yuan Ming, relying on the Wind Stabilizing Pearl, had gathered most of the Dragon Tooth Crystals into his bag, and even though Yan Xiang and Lei He spread out, their harvest was still scanty.

After all, they did not possess a treasure like the Wind Stabilizing Pearl and could only blame their bad luck.

Of course, this was also because Yuan Ming, although at the Core Formation Stage, already possessed the power to battle those at the Nascent Soul Stage and could protect himself even if not victorious. Given the current situation, Yan Xiang and Lei He would not dare to fall out rashly because of various entanglements, otherwise, how could Yuan Ming dare to snatch the treasures right from under their noses.

Yan Xiang and Lei He collected their emotions and turned their gaze to a large stele not far away.

The stele was inscribed with four flamboyant golden characters - "Golden Sunflower Immortal Island."

"It really is Golden Sunflower Immortal Island." Yan Xiang and Lei He showed a hint of a smile on their faces. After a brief breathing control, they headed toward the stele.

Yuan Ming had already reached the stele ahead of them. Before they could get close, he stepped over the stele.

As Yuan Ming stepped over the stele, he immediately felt as though he'd passed through an invisible curtain. The scenery before his eyes dramatically brightened. The original vista had vanished, replaced by a world bathed in gleaming gold.

Right in front of him lay a mountain forest. As far as the eye could see, trees and plants were all a golden yellow color. It seemed as if a layer of gold juice had been poured over the leaves of all the trees, reflecting a metallic luster that made Yuan Ming instinctively raise his hand to shield his eyes.

Accompanying the dazzling golden light was a wave of intense heat, as if he'd suddenly returned to the volcanic area where the Earth Core Fire Lotus was located.

Wisps of vapor evaporated from every pore on Yuan Ming's body. His throat began to itch, and even the air he exhaled from his nostrils seemed particularly scorching.

He looked up to the sky and saw three enormous incandescent fireballs hanging above, arranged in a line, continuously emitting scorching brilliant light.

"There are actually three suns here..." Lei He's lips also felt dry from the heat, prompting him to speak out.

After speaking, he took out a round jade pendant and hung it around his waist.

As mana flowed into it, the round jade pendant began to ripple with blue waves, akin to water, transforming into a clear light that enveloped him completely.

Yuan Ming also produced a piece of blue jade belt magic treasure, forming a blue protective shield around himself.

This blue waist belt, taken from the Qingtong Storage Bag, was of high grade and had some fire resistance and cooling effects.

"I've never seen such an abundance of spiritual power before, it's truly invigorating." Yan Xiang spoke with ease, not bothered by the intense heat.

The spiritual power on Golden Sunflower Immortal Island was indeed bountiful, surpassing even that of Fusang Island, except here the balance of nature's spiritual energy was severely skewed. Other types of spirit qi were thin, with only the Fire Attribute Spirit Qi being excessively dense.

Being a cultivator of fire techniques, Yan Xiang felt especially invigorated in this place, enjoying the sensation immensely.

Yuan Ming ignored him and turned to glance behind him. He could still see the lake outside, which seemed to be not entirely blocked off, so he took a step toward the outside.

However, the foot he lifted collided with an invisible light screen, stopping him in his tracks.

Lei He glanced over, stepped forward, and touched the invisible light screen with his hand, then said, "There's a barrier. It seems to be one-way; we can come in but not go out."

Yuan Ming lifted a fist and directed his mana at the invisible light screen.

With a "bang," a muffled sound echoed.

Where his fist collided with empty space, a layer of golden ripples spread, and a pale golden light screen emerged, rising hundreds of feet upward, with no end in sight.

Yuan Ming slowly retracted his fist, now roughly understanding the situation. The barrier was exceptionally sturdy, not something brute force could shatter. At least, he couldn't manage it.

"Who would have thought that Yuan not only possesses remarkable divine skills but also cultivates his physical body," Lei He said, evidently surprised.

"Years ago, I happened upon a body refining technique by chance, and I cultivated it rashly, hardly reaching any height of sophistication. This barrier is extraordinarily tough. It was easy for us to enter, but it seems difficult to leave. Do either of you have a method to break through?" Yuan Ming spoke casually, deftly steering the topic back to the barrier.

"Considering retreat as soon as we enter, isn't Yuan being overly cautious? Instead of thinking about that, we should explore ahead. There might also be a way out further on," Yan Xiang said indifferently, his words laced with sarcasm.

"Senior Yan Xiang is right. With that said, let's move forward," Yuan replied, not taking offense.

Yan Xiang cast a glance at Yuan Ming, then turned and strode toward the front.

"Fellow Daoist Yan Xiang, since the three of us entered together, it's natural to stick together. We are all ignorant of this place, and traveling together can provide mutual assistance, preventing situations like before where we were trapped in an array and unable to escape," Lei He caught up with him, with Yuan Ming following in step.

Without stopping or objecting, Yan Xiang seemed to agree with Lei He's suggestion.

Thus, the three of them walked deeper into the island in silence, the conditions on the island unknown. They chose to walk on foot rather than flying.

After walking for about an hour, the three finally emerged from the golden wood. However, a gentle slope not far ahead rose to reveal a vast peach forest with fiery red colors.

Yuan Ming looked up at the sky, where the three blazing suns hung high, each like a fiercely burning white orb. The surrounding temperature seemed to rise even more, and despite the blue belt's protection, he felt uncomfortably warm.

Yuan Ming quickly withdrew his gaze and looked toward the fiery red peach forest ahead.

This peach forest was immense, extending in both directions with no end in sight, seemingly much more vast than the golden woods.

The distribution of the peach forest appeared methodical, as if it hadn't grown naturally.

Having encountered too many strange things on the way, they dared not be careless and thus stood still in front of the peach forest, not daring to step into the woods immediately.
