Magic is an accessible form of magical energy that enables a person to cast a Spell, to Summon, or to create Sigils and other magical constructs. It is a flexible and malleable force, allowing for applications that Mana cannot provide, as Mana cannot be shaped or transformed as readily as Magic.
Mana, however, retains many uses beyond serving as a source of energy from which Magic can be distilled. It empowers innate abilities such as telekinesis, telepathy, enhanced physical attributes, shifting, and even direct elemental manipulation and creation—such as the manifestation of lightning or fire. Whereas Magic requires the application of formulas, Mana is often instinctive or intrinsic. Possessing an abundance of Mana does not necessarily grant the ability to cast Spells unless the individual also possesses Magic and an affinity for it.
One might compare Mana to uranium or fuel, and Magic to electricity.
Magic, through the use of circuits and proper structural design, can power a vast array of devices—much as electricity is used in your world. Uranium or fuel, however, cannot serve the same function directly; they require transformation and manipulation before their potential can be harnessed. Mana functions in much the same way…at least for the Mortals.

The distinction between Mana and Magic is crucial to understanding this world where both have become increasingly scarce. There is, naturally, a causal link between their gradual disappearance, for Mana cannot be replenished easily except through Divine intervention. Magic, on the other hand, can return so long as Mana remains abundant, for it can be created through the evaporation of Mana.
As previously mentioned, Humans in this world differ from ordinary humans elsewhere. The first and most significant difference lies in their biology. Magirians possess a Mana Heart, located at the center of the chest, which processes Mana within their bodies and even produces Magic in the course of its operation. This organ also forms a permanent Mana core known as the Stonyl Heart, which is considered by most as the mark of true Nobility. In Nagasmar, only those who possess a Stonyl Heart may become Nobles, unless they descend from very specific Noble lineages that do not require one to process Mana.
In addition to the Mana Heart, the Magirian human heart contains a small component with a function similar to that of the Mana Heart. This secondary structure processes primarily Magic, though it also works with Mana.
The organs we just described are vital to the Magirians' ability to wield both Magic and Mana.
