Los Angeles Legendary Sleuth

Chapter 474: New Neighbor (Part 2)

"However, I still hope the family can travel together.

So, I can pay for the airfare to get there, but as for other expenses, you will need to cover them yourselves."

Linda asked, "Dad, where are you planning to travel to?"

"Of course, to Hawaii, is there a place more suitable for a family trip than that?"

Val was excited, "Dad, you're right, it's perfect there. Besides, I haven't been there for a long time.

But the cost there is very high, and the return ticket is also not cheap."

Luke said, "Since Grandpa is covering the tickets to Hawaii, I'll cover the cost of the return tickets."

Val laughed, "Cool, problem solved."

The chubby kid showed an expectant look, "Mom, let's go too."

"No, you still have to go to school."

"I can ask for leave from school."

Linda took a bite of vegetables, shook her head, and said, "No, I don't think that's a good idea." She turned to Luke on the side, "Aren't you busy with work? How do you have time for a trip?"

"Work is never-ending.

Like Grandpa said, traveling with family is the best, and I don't want to miss such a great opportunity." Luke was on paid leave for a period after shooting a drug dealer while arresting them.

However, to avoid worrying the family, he didn't mention it.

"Mom, you're not going to leave me alone, are you?" The chubby kid was somewhat dissatisfied.

"We'll talk about this at home, OK?" Linda picked up her wine glass, took a sip of red wine, and looked at the chubby kid a bit sternly.

Luke asked, "Grandpa, why did you suddenly think of traveling to Hawaii?"

"I just feel life is a bit dull and want to go out and have a change of scenery." Robert took a sip of wine and asked Luke back, "Has your new house started construction?"

Luke said, "The old house has been completely demolished, and the foundation might be laid tomorrow. I am planning to go and check it out."

"If there's anything you need, call me anytime."

"I will."

Then, the family began discussing the travel plans to Hawaii.

In the morning the next day, Luke cooked a packet of instant noodles, a fried egg, and a grilled sausage after getting up.

It had been a long time since he had instant noodles, and having them once in a while, they tasted good.

After eating, Luke went to the yard, brewed a pot of Tieguanyin tea, and enjoyed the leisure time.

Unconsciously, it had been a year since Luke came to Los Angeles. Many things happened during this year, and he also grew a lot.

A few days ago, the real estate agent renting this apartment to him called to ask if Luke wanted to renew the lease.

Luke thought for a moment and renewed it for another six months.

By the end of May, his new house could be completed, and after being aired for a while, he could move in.

[Ding Dong, Congratulations to the host for solving the shooting case, the car accident case, and earning 120 points as a reward.]

In this case, Luke used a Bullet-Proof Card, an Accuracy Card, and an identification card, using up 70 points and replenishing three cards.

Adding the previous remaining fifty points, the Detective System now has one hundred points.

Unfortunately, there were no new card rewards this time.

Luke guessed it might also have to do with the difficulty of the case.

At ten in the morning, Luke went to a Chinese supermarket to buy some coffee and sweet pastries.

Then, he drove to the Palisades Community to check on the construction progress of his new house.

Luke parked the car outside the yard and heard the "woof woof" of machinery; the new home was under construction.

After getting out of the car, Luke carried the bag and walked into the villa's yard. The old house had been completely demolished, and the large yard looked more spacious.

A cement mixer was on-site, and there were probably about a dozen workers busying around, mostly Chinese faces, which is also why Luke brought the pastries. If he had brought donuts, they probably wouldn't like them.

Of course, some tea would be more suitable at this time, but the new house didn't even have a place to boil water, which wasn't very appropriate, so buying coffee was more convenient, and these Chinese folks were also accustomed to drinking coffee.

The person in charge of on-site construction management was Zhang Jianmin. He hurried over when he saw Luke, speaking in Chinese, "Captain Li, you're here."

Luke handed the bag to him, "Director Zhang, I brought some snacks for you guys, please help distribute them."

"Thank you." Zhang Jianmin took a cup of coffee, placed the bag on a table next to him, and shouted, "Everyone, take a break from work.

Mr. Li brought coffee and snacks for everyone, there's some for everyone."

The workers were also tired. They walked in threes and twos to the dining table, took their share of coffee and pastries, and found a shady place to rest.

Luke wandered around the construction site. A large pit had been dug underground, and the foundation was being laid with many steel bars inserted in it, with some already filled with cement.

Luke turned and asked, "Director Zhang, is the construction going smoothly?"

Zhang Jianmin walked over and replied, "Pretty smoothly. It's estimated that the foundation can be finished today. Once the assembled parts from the factory are delivered, we can start building the structure of the house."

Luke nodded, "With this progress, can it be completed by mid-May?"

Zhang Jianmin thought for a moment, "According to the contract agreement, completing it by the end of May is definitely not a problem.

If work can continue on Saturdays and Sundays, the construction period could be advanced to mid-May."

Luke asked, "If there's overtime work on Saturdays and Sundays, would additional costs be required? Like overtime pay or bonuses."
