Los Angeles Legendary Sleuth

Chapter 491: Fake?_2

Sofia slowly shook her head, "No, but I feel a sense of familiarity when I see you."

Kelly Lax interrupted the conversation between the two and asked Sofia, "Do you still recognize me?"

Sofia carefully observed Kelly Lax and shook her head, "I don't have any impression."

"Your name is Sofia?"

"Yes."

"What's your surname?"

"I had a head injury before and lost my memory."

"Do you remember your father?"

Sofia nodded, "In my impression, my father was very tall and gentlemanly... I can't remember anything else."

"To every child, their father is tall," Kelly Lax said, then took out three photos from her pocket and placed them in front of Sofia, "Which one looks like your father?"

Sofia looked down at the photos and shook her head, "These photos don't match the image of my father in my mind."

The deputy took the three photos to look at them, frowned, and said, "These three photos don't have Sofia's father in them. Mrs. Lax, your questioning method isn't very friendly."

"Sorry, I just wanted to make sure she is the real 'Sofia'."

The deputy handed the photos back, "What did your results show?"

Kelly Lax took the photos, placed them in her LV backpack, and looked at Sofia again, "She does not resemble the Sofia in my memory." After speaking, she turned to Sara Santos, "You've interacted with Sofia more, what do you think?"

Sara Santos clasped her hands together, looking somewhat nervous, thought for a moment, and said to Sofia, "Can I look at your back?"

"No, I refuse.

I've been brought here by you all in a daze, inspected like an animal.

I still don't know what you want to do, you say you were my babysitter." Sofia looked at Kelly Lax again, "Then what about you?

Do you know my father? Where is he?"

Kelly Lax said, "Once we confirm your identity, we'll naturally tell you."

Sofia spoke firmly, "Impossible. If you don't explain clearly, I won't cooperate with you any further, and you'll never hear another word from me."

Reid sighed lightly, "Let me explain."

"No, I'll say it," the deputy interrupted Reid, recalling, "Ten years ago, there was a kidnapping case in Los Angeles, investigated by the FBI, and our detective bureau assisted.

The kidnapped hostage was a ten-year-old girl who disappeared after playing in a community park near her home after school.

Soon after, her father received a ransom call from the kidnappers, demanding five million US Dollars in diamonds.

Concerned about his daughter's safety, the father chose to report the incident to the police.

The FBI began investigating the kidnapping case.

The next day, the kidnappers called again, detailing the trade time and place.

Under FBI protection, the girl's father placed five million US Dollars worth of diamonds at the agreed location.

Shortly after the father left, someone arrived at the trade location to take the diamonds, and the FBI promptly arrested that person, who did not admit to being the kidnapper, claiming to be a black market diamond trader.

After extensive investigation, this person was indeed a black market trader.

Before the kidnapping case, someone approached him to sell five million US Dollars worth of diamonds, at the very location specified by the kidnappers.

But the black market trader did not know where the kidnappers were, nor could he contact them.

Since then, neither the black market trader nor the families of the kidnappers have received any more calls from the kidnappers, and no one has seen the little girl again."

Sofia furrowed her brow tightly and muttered, "The kidnapping case you're talking about is very similar to our criminal methods.

But this case has nothing to do with me; I was just a teenager at the time, how could I be involved..."

Then Sofia paused, seemingly realizing something, "Are you saying... I am that kidnapped little girl you mentioned?"

The deputy nodded, "Ten years ago, the kidnapped little girl was also named Sofia."

Sofia seemed somewhat bewildered, her face full of disbelief, "How could this be? I was kidnapped?

And then kidnapped using the same method? How could there be such a coincidence?

Are you all lying to me?"

The deputy said, "Everything we're saying is true.

This lady is the kidnapped girl's stepmother.

The Asian lady is Sofia's babysitter.

They came here to verify your identity."

Sofia asked, "Where is my father then?"

The deputy sighed, "Three years after the kidnapping case, your father died from excessive grief."

Sofia's eyes became moist, "So, I was originally a victim of the kidnapping case, then cultivated to become a new kidnapper, is that so?"

Reid said, "Your situation is quite special; I believe the judge will consider leniency in sentencing.

As long as you're willing to assist the police in the investigation, we will help you negotiate a favorable plea agreement."

Sofia seemed confused, "Am I really that kidnapped girl?"

The deputy replied, "We've already conducted a DNA sample comparison, which is why we invited Kelly Lax and Sara Santos to identify your identity, and hope you can cooperate with us.
