Los Angeles Legendary Sleuth

Chapter 123 Trading

Reid Community.

Luke slept until twelve noon.

His head still felt a bit dizzy; without sleep at night, even making up for it during the day would leave one quite uncomfortable.

He felt a bit more refreshed after washing his face.

Not in the mood to cook, he ran to a restaurant in the community square for a meal.

The restaurant's name was "Home Cooking."

Luke ordered a dish of spicy boiled beef, a dish of cucumbers fried with shrimp, and two bowls of rice.

One dish was light, the other strong in flavor; he found the meal particularly satisfying.

After the meal, he drove to work.

Although the case of perjury had been solved, the murderer who killed Abu Gela had not been caught yet, and the city authorities were still pressing hard for an arrest.

When Luke arrived at the police station, everyone except Little Black was there.

Just as David had said, Luke and Little Black were the only two in the squad fond of slacking off, and they had ended up being paired together.

Luke brought beef burger meals for David and Raymond; he, Raymond, Jenny, and Susan had not knocked off work, almost working around the clock.

It was truly exhausting.

After taking a large sip of coffee, David nodded towards Little Black's desk, "That kid needs supervision; he's just slacking off at work now, but if no one manages him, he'll soon start coming in late and leaving early."

"Do I qualify for that?" Luke shrugged.

In terms of rank, Luke indeed had the authority to supervise Little Black now, but he did not want to.

If Susan really wanted someone to manage Little Black, she wouldn't have arranged for him to be under Luke.

The assistant captain, David, and Raymond were all much stricter than he was.

David shook his head, "Exactly, you're as unreliable as he is; you might be the first one to start coming in late and leaving early."

"Who knows about that," Luke chuckled.

If Luke eventually became a great detective, being late or leaving early wouldn't be an issue.

Of course, he didn't have that luxury just yet.

By two o'clock in the afternoon, everyone had arrived.

Susan called a meeting with all the staff.

Jenny said, "This morning, the victim's parents rushed to the police station; I took them to identify the body and also took their statements.

According to the victim's parents, Abu Gela had dreamed of becoming a star since he was a child.

At the age of twenty, he came to Hollywood to make his mark, hoping to achieve something significant.

He had a good appearance, but his path to stardom was not smooth, and he had not received any good opportunities.

Because he looked a lot like Lucas, he became Lucas's stunt double, thinking it would give him access to the higher-ups in a production and might lead to more acting opportunities.

His parents said that Abu Gela cherished this opportunity a great deal; he hoped this was the start of a new phase in his career in the spotlight.

Unfortunately, that dream never came to fruition," she finished.

Raymond continued, "After affirming the perjury charge, Rossi Bill, Bell Gru, and Inosa Soster were also subjected to physical examinations, and no bite marks from the murderer were found on their bodies.

For now, they can be ruled out as suspects in the murder of Abu Gela."

Luke made a brief note in his notebook, "It looks like you've all been busy while I got a few hours of rest."

"I was busy too."

Matthew, who was also attending the meeting, raised his hand, "I've found that Abu Gela was once implicated in a fraud case, though he eventually reached a settlement with the victim and was not prosecuted or jailed.

The victim is named Conna Simon, a local from Los Angeles."

Susan assigned tasks directly, "Luke, Marcus, the two of you go talk to Conna Simon.

Assistant captain, Raymond, David, Jenny, you talk to the people from the production, verify the victim's movements before his death, see who he had been in contact with."

"Yes, captain."

...

Saint Moni Beach.

This place is one of Los Angeles's famous attractions, with beautiful scenery, a blue sky, soft sand, and seabirds skimming the waves.

Not far off, there was a small amusement park featuring a miniature roller coaster and a Ferris wheel.

The roller coaster might be one thing, but riding the Ferris wheel here, the view must be beautiful.

Luke loved the place at first sight.

He hadn't really enjoyed Los Angeles, except for that boat trip with Daisy.

He adored the ocean and the beach and envied those who could lie on the sand soaking up the sun.

The view was beautiful, and so were the people.

Luke removed his sunglasses, scanning the beach, "Are you sure the fraud case victim Conna Simon is here?"

Little Black's eyes were wide as he swept his gaze over the bikini-clad girls, "Does it even matter?"

"Then let's start looking," Luke said with a smile.

They strolled along the beach from the west end to the east, looking around as they walked for about twenty minutes.

Luke glanced at his watch, "Call her to confirm her location."

Little Black took out his mobile phone and called Conna Simon, "I've asked, she has blond hair, wearing a blue bikini, around thirty years old... wow, I'm kind of looking forward to this."

They continued their search for the blonde in the blue bikini.

After searching the whole area, they finally located a woman who they suspected was Conna Simon.

She had blond hair and was wearing a bikini that matched the description, but her age and weight far exceeded their expectations.

Not far away, a blanket was spread out on the sand with a middle-aged woman lying on it, roughly 175cm in height and weighing at least 200 pounds.

Luke gestured to Little Black to go forward and ask.

Taking a deep breath, Little Black said, "Hi, are you Miss Conna Simon?"

The woman looked up briefly, slowly sat up, her layers of flesh stacking up, "You're Detective Marcus."

Little Black was taken aback for a moment before he slowly replied, "Yes, I am, and this is Detective Chief Luke. We'd like to talk to you about Abu Gela."
