"OK, I thought we could save some trouble, but it looks like we have to continue," Luke had already thought of the questions he wanted to ask. "Boris, when was the last time you saw Courtney?"
Boris hesitated, his conflicted expression evident on his face. After a good while, he finally said, "April 15th, I came to Los Angeles to visit the set."
"Where were you between the evening of April 30th and 2 AM on May 1st?"
"I was at home?"
"Which home?"
"Las Vegas, Conte Avenue, number 13."
"Did you come to Los Angeles between the evening of April 30th and 2 AM on May 1st?"
"No."
"Are you sure?"
"Yes."
"On the afternoon of April 30th, Courtney had a meeting with the producer Rossi at a hotel, both stayed in the hotel room for nearly two hours. Were you aware of that?"
Boris looked down, "I didn't know."
"Do you know Ikaline?"
"Yes, she's my ex-girlfriend."
"We found out through hotel surveillance that Ikaline was also at the hotel at the time and followed Courtney. She must have seen Courtney meeting with another man. She told you about it, didn't she?"
Boris retorted, "What does that prove? Women are independent individuals. I don't see any problem with Courtney meeting with colleagues during the day."
"So, you lied. You did know about this."
Boris glanced at his lawyer and sighed, "Yes, Ikaline told me about it. So what?"
"What were you planning to do about it?"
"A man should learn to be generous first. That's the greatest tolerance and the best love for a woman. I trusted that Courtney wouldn't do anything to betray me, and that was enough."
"I thought you'd immediately return to Los Angeles to confront her."
"Don't try to trap me with your words. I didn't go back to Los Angeles. I returned to Los Angeles by plane on the morning of May 3rd. Courtney's death has nothing to do with me. I loved her; I would never kill her. You got it wrong."
Luke smiled, "Nice save, I was almost convinced you had no motive to kill."
Attorney Port corrected, "My client indeed had no motive for murder. It's normal for his girlfriend to discuss business with other men. This so-called motive is invalid."
Hope chuckled, "Attorney, does your wife also frequently discuss business with other men in hotels?"
Attorney Port pointed at Hope, "Hey, no personal attacks."
"You think that's a personal attack?" Luke countered, "That means you also believe it wasn't normal for Courtney to meet the producer at the hotel."
Attorney Port objected, "What I think is not important. What matters is how my client sees it?"
Hope burst into laughter, "Boris, does your lawyer think you're the Green Arrow or something?"
The lawyer asked back, "What do you mean?"
Hope explained, "Boris is just like the real Green Arrow; his beloved girlfriend and his best buddy cheat on him, yet he still looks out for his friend with a broken heart... Disgusting. Absolutely terrible."
Boris got angry, "Fuck, you're the Green Arrow, you guys are the worst. I bet you've never even seen your own dad."
Hope's eyes fixed on Boris, fury mounting.
Luke stepped in to mediate, "Attorney, tell your client to stop personal attacks. Let's not stray from the topic at hand. I ask, Boris answers, OK?"
Luke confirmed again, "Are you sure you didn't return to Los Angeles between the evening of April 30th and the early morning of May 1st?"
"Yes."
Luke took out a photograph, "What is this?"
Boris and the lawyer took the photo to examine it.
Boris's face changed color instantly.
Attorney Port took a glance, "What are you trying to suggest?"
"This was taken at 1:08 AM on May 1st at an intersection near the York community. The man in the video is Boris."
Attorney Port pointed at the photo, "The driver in the photo is wearing a hat, and you can't see his face. How can you prove that's Boris?"
Luke responded, "This car belongs to the Regal Casino in Las Vegas, and Boris is an executive of this casino. We've asked the relevant departments, and the car was borrowed by him on the evening of April 30th and wasn't returned until 9 AM on May 1st, which fits the timeline of the crime."
Port looked at Boris, took a deep breath, and said, "That still doesn't prove the driver was him."
"Boris, take out the hat from your pocket and show it to the lawyer."
Boris acted as if he hadn't heard.
"That hat is now part of the evidence. Hand it over, don't make us take it by force." Luke signaled to Hope with his eyes.
Hope stood up, looking like trouble was on the way.
Reluctantly, Boris took a hat out of his bag and threw it on the table.
The lawyer looked at the hat, then at the photo, his expression turning sour, "Uh... That hat isn't custom-made, others could wear it too."
"I knew you'd say that." Luke pulled out another photo, "This photo was taken in the outskirts of Los Angeles, far from the York Community. At that time, Boris was not wearing the hat, and his face is clearly visible.
Lawyer, can you come up with any more excuses?"
Attorney Port stroked his chin, glanced at Boris beside him, and proposed again, "I'd like to talk to my client in private."
"Give me a reason."
After some thought, Attorney Port said, "I will help my client make the right decision. I believe you also don't want this case to drag on."
