Los Angeles Legendary Sleuth

Chapter 143: Restoring the Scene (Additional 17/21)

Subsequently, Luke and Xiao Hei returned to Theodore Cain's home to inquire further.

Theodore's girlfriend opened the door and said coldly, "What else do you want? Are you going to take me away too?"

Luke gestured for Xiao Hei to speak.

Xiao Hei cleared his throat. It was not that he was embarrassed, but such matters required tact to discuss, otherwise, it was very easy to be sued for harassment.

"We suspect that Theodore was involved in a murder case."

"Bullshit. Although we haven't been together long, I understand him. Petty theft, maybe, but he doesn't have the guts to kill someone." Theodore's girlfriend crossed her arms, and Xiao Hei felt his eyes were about to sink into her.

Good.

"How long have you two been together?"

"About two or three weeks. Why, do you really want to pursue me?"

"No, I have a girlfriend. I just wanted to ask, do you know Josie Alisa?"

"Yes, his ex-girlfriend. They were together for a while, I heard she was even a high school cheerleader captain, but I don't care.

Now I'm the one by his side, I won."

Xiao Hei was stunned. This was different from what they had understood. "They dated?"

"Yes, he told me himself."

"How long were they together?"

"I don't know and didn't ask. Why make myself unhappy? Are you here about his ex-girlfriend?"

Xiao Hei honestly said, "Josie Alisa was killed. We came to find out more."

"Wow, are you serious?"

"Yes, we are from the Robbery and Murder Department, we aren't interested in petty theft or brawls. Tell your brother to stop pacing in the living room. Even if he steals right in front of us, we might not care.

Of course, it mostly depends on our mood."

Luke whispered, "Stop talking nonsense and focus on the matter at hand."

"Your name is Triss Lier?"

"Did Theodore tell you that?"

"Answer directly."

"Yes, what about it?"

"Josie Alisa was killed. Theodore had a conflict with her, and we need to confirm his alibi.

He said he was with you yesterday afternoon from three to four o'clock."

"Yes, we were together all day."

"What were you doing at that time?"

"We went out for a drive."

"Where did you drive to?"

"Highway 1, right by the ocean. The scenery was great. Other than the car being a bit old, everything was fine."

"The exact location?"

"I don't remember, but we did stop at a gas station called mourta. You can check it out."

"According to Theodore, yesterday afternoon you two were in the car..." Xiao Hei didn't finish speaking when Luke interrupted, "Okay, let's leave it at that. Let's go."

After they left, Xiao Hei quietly asked, "I haven't asked about the time yet?"

Luke smiled, "Those two or three minutes, whether true or false, don't matter much. It won't delay anything.

Taking the risk of being sued by this woman for harassment is not worth it.

Besides, if Theodore lied... he definitely wouldn't mention just two or three minutes."

"You make sense.

If it were me, I'd start with at least half an hour." Xiao Hei chuckled and probed further, "What about Theodore and Josie dating?"

"He was definitely bragging!" Luke knew without thinking.

They returned to the car and inquired again. Theodore's details about the drive matched the time and location.

Additionally, as Luke had guessed, he lied about his relationship with Josie.

A cheerleader captain would definitely not be interested in him.

Now that Theodore had a new girlfriend and an alibi, at least from the current situation, he wasn't a major suspect and was released.

...

After work.

Luke went to his mother's house for dinner, mainly to check if his nephew's emotions were stable.

During the meal, his nephew asked about the shooting case.

He described what he could about the situation.

He also inquired about Josie's circumstances.

His nephew knew about the black cheerleader captain Josie, but he wasn't very interested in black girls, so his knowledge was quite good.

After dinner, Luke watched TV for a while with his mom and nephew before heading home.

He planned to study profiling skills today.

When Luke first arrived in Los Angeles, he approached his days with the intention of just getting by and wasn't very committed to investigating cases.

But recently, his life had changed dramatically, as had his mindset.

Being a policeman in Los Angeles gave him status and power, as well as a substantial income. He wanted to establish himself in the police force and even become a high-ranking individual in Los Angeles.

Simultaneously, he realized his shortcomings. Criminals in Los Angeles were more complex and harder to deal with than back home.

Most people in his country were hustling for a living with relatively straightforward thoughts. The reasons for committing crimes were mostly uniform, generally for profit or love, either for money or women, with fewer psychopaths.

Americans were different; their minds were filled with more thoughts, not implying they were smarter, but rather because of better welfare and less life pressure.

Once people are well-fed, they tend to think about all sorts of messy things, essentially from having too much free time and liking to engage in unnecessary complicated activities; their motives are hard to guess.

Cases involving such messy and often psychopathic elements were more numerous.

Since his arrival, Luke hadn't encountered any particularly bizarre cases, but it was possible he would in the future.

Criminal profiling was a powerful skill that would definitely be useful in future investigations.

Luke had purchased books on criminal profiling in advance. He had read some related content before, but always felt it was like scratching an itch through a shoe, unable to apply it in practice.
