Los Angeles Legendary Sleuth

Chapter 152 Good Captain_2

"Cough..." Little Black cleared his throat softly, feeling a bit uneasy.

Reid seemed to have remembered something, "Right, there's also Marcus, he did a great job this time and deserves recognition."

Marcus grinned broadly at everyone.

Then, Reid made a few more polite remarks, "Of course, everyone worked hard on this case, and its successful resolution owes something to each of you, which I have all noted.

Keep up the good work.

Captain Susan, could you describe the case?"

Susan nodded and said to everyone, "First, let me talk about Herman's situation. After a day and night of emergency treatment, he is temporarily out of danger.

According to the doctor, if he had been brought to the hospital half an hour later, he might have died from excessive blood loss.

His parents are very grateful to Luke and the police."

Little Black said, "Herman is not exactly a likeable guy, so this may serve as a lesson for him."

David said, "That's quite a lesson, I'm afraid it's going to leave him with lifelong consequences."

Little Black said, "Better than being dead, I believe this lesson will cause him to change."

Luke actually agreed with Little Black's words. If Herman had not tried to use the school shooting publicity to benefit his college applications, perhaps he wouldn't have provoked Benson again so quickly, and the second shooting might not have happened so soon.

One could say he reaped what he sowed.

Susan continued, "The Internal Affairs Department interrogated school policeman Selt Polis, and he confessed to lying during the shooting incident.

As for the reason...

He was afraid of getting shot.

That's also why he left the LAPD in the first place.

He thought staying on campus would keep him away from criminals, away from shootings and danger.

But he never expected a shooting to occur at Maraboya High School.

Not knowing how many gunmen there were, he didn't dare confront them head-on and hid inside the science building. There, he discovered the victim on the rooftop and fabricated the shooting scene on the third floor.

The third-floor windowpanes were also shattered by his own gun, and the falling glass injured a student. That idiot really made a mess of things.

Afterwards, fearing accountability, he chose to lie and fake the scene, making it appear as though he had chased after the gunman but was unsuccessful."

Clint felt somewhat resentful, "We were all deceived by that jerk.

He's a cop too, we trusted him and never expected him to fabricate a scene.

If not for him... this case wouldn't have dragged on so long."

Susan tilted her head slightly, "Luke, how did you figure out the school cop was lying?"

Luke was about to say it was intuition.

Little Black spoke up, raising an eyebrow, "He's been learning micro-expression analysis recently, studying it secretly on his own."

Susan said with a smile, "It seems the study is paying off."

Reid said, "Isn't that what Anthony is most proud of? One of these days, you can challenge him. If you can beat him, I'll buy you dinner."

"I will try my best," Luke smiled.

Reid added, "Oh and Anthony wanted me to pass on his thanks when he left, thanking you for catching Fannie's killer."

Luke asked in return, "Why didn't he say it himself?"

Reid laughed, "Do you think that guy's character would allow him to say such a thing?"

Susan joked, "I never thought Agent Anthony could be embarrassed; I really wish I had been there at the time."

The deputy team leader, somewhat dissatisfied, spoke up, "Guys, this isn't the time for commendations. Let's focus on the case." The deputy team leader stood up, placing a document on the projector,

"According to Benson's testimony, the whole thing started because of an anonymous account. He posted some inappropriate comments on it, such as 'If an average-looking girl thinks she's a beauty, I'll flatten her.'

This anonymous account is completely different from what he usually posts in his circle of friends.

His social circle posts are all positive and loving, such as supporting women and opposing discrimination, and so forth. The content between his two accounts is vastly different.

Benson is the textbook definition of a two-faced individual, a politician's façade.

Unfortunately, he's not mature enough; anonymous accounts are far from secure. Even if Herman hadn't reported him, there would've been other ways to track him down.

Of course, he's only seventeen, so it's understandable.

Yet give it another ten, twenty years, when he's matured and composed, uncovering his true face won't be so easy.

He would make a qualified politician.

Luke, thank you for ridding Los Angeles of a scourge twenty years in advance."

Luke said, "We're a team, this is everyone's accomplishment; I was just a little luckier."

In essence, the school shooting was a vendetta sparked by a certain kind of conflict, but the case became complicated due to the involvement of FBI Agent Fannie and the accidental injuries to two football players.

The meeting ended.

Reid called Luke to his office and poured him a cup of hand-ground coffee.

"Luke, I don't want to go on about praise but... you really did well, you're one of the best detectives I've seen in recent years."

Luke took a sip of coffee, "Thank you, it tastes good."

"I have another task for you, and if you can accomplish it, I will nominate you for promotion to deputy team leader at the city bureau."

Luke wasn't overwhelmed by the sudden offer; the bigger the pie, the harder it could hit, "What's the task?"

"The two school shootings have cast doubt on the security of Los Angeles from the outside, greatly affecting the city's image.

At the same time, the Los Angeles Police Department is under fire from public opinion, with many citizens feeling that the police are inactive and losing trust in the department's capabilities."
