Los Angeles Legendary Sleuth

Chapter 279 Said McKin_2

Luke seemed to guess something, "You're paying alimony?"

"Of course, Lindsay has started rehab, but jobs aren't easy to come by, and this alimony ensures she can live normally."

"Is the pressure high?"

"Not really. Lindsay and I may be divorced, but we're still friends; I still care about her.

I'm willing to give some money to help her.

She needs support now to truly move on.

Only I can help her."

"If you need money, remember to tell me."

"You've found another way to make money recently?"

"Exactly, I'll tell you when there's a suitable opportunity."

"I'll treat you to a drink then." David stood up and left the office.

...

Norvett Hospital.

Room 704.

Petrov lay in the hospital room with both hands and feet bandaged, missing parts that were obviously necessary.

When he was brought to the hospital, the doctors tried to reattach his thumbs, but it was too late to operate optimally.

For a gang member, being without four thumbs essentially made him half crippled; he couldn't run fast, jump high, fight strong, or hold a gun steady. How could he compete with others?

If he were to represent the gang in any task, he would be the laughingstock.

"Knock knock." A knocking sound came from outside.

Petrov didn't react, still lying listlessly, seemingly having lost interest in the outside world.

"Creak..." The door opened.

Luke and Little Black walked into the room.

"Hey, boy, are you okay?" Little Black greeted as if he knew him well.

Petrov glanced at both of them, still silent.

Little Black walked to the bed and casually sat down.

"Ah! Move your ass, you sat on my foot!" Petrov cried out as he sat up, screaming in pain.

"Sorry, I didn't do it on purpose." Little Black's face lacked sincerity.

"You're the real asshole." Petrov trembled with anger.

"Wow, praising me right when we meet, I'm almost embarrassed. Can I sit on the right side of the bed?"

Petrov quickly pulled back his right foot, "No, don't sit on my bed."

Little Black shrugged, "You're too unfriendly, we just wanted a good chat with you."

"I don't want to talk to you."

"OK, then we'll go." Luke turned around, pretending to leave.

"Hey, stop." Petrov called out, somewhat helplessly, "What do you actually want?"

Luke counter-questioned, "Didn't you ask us to leave?

We do have something to do; there might even be a mission tonight, so we need to catch some sleep."

"Damn it, I've been unlucky enough. Don't threaten me any more." Petrov was on the verge of a breakdown.

"No one's threatening you; it's your attitude that's not right.

You're already worthless, the Furry Bear Gang no longer needs you. Cooperating with the police is your only way out.

I'm talking to you to help you, if I walk out now without saying anything,

what do you think the big boss of the Furry Bear Gang will do to you, you know without me having to say."

"Fuck, I'm so unlucky to encounter Novina Jones, that harbinger of disaster. If it weren't for this damn woman causing trouble, I wouldn't have ended up like this."

Seeing Petrov bring up the victim, Luke took the opportunity to ask, "OK, let's talk about Novina Jones, what's your relationship with her?"

"Before I say anything, I want an immunity agreement."

"You start talking first, if the issue isn't serious, just related to drug dealing, we might not press charges against you."

"Uh… Novina Jones was one of my drug dealers. She was young, beautiful, innocent, very popular; a lot of customers liked her style, and of course, some were more aggressive and could become violent.

Novina Jones had been beaten more than once, but it was only that, I never thought she would be murdered.

I don't know who did it."

Luke asked, "When did you find out she was dead?"

"Our last contact was on the evening of September 15. Typically, we'd meet the morning of September 16, when she would hand over the money to me.

But she didn't show up the next day, and I couldn't reach her."

At first, I thought she was hiding, but by the afternoon, there was still no news. Worried she might have run off, I went to check her place.

Then, I encountered him…" Petrov pointed at Little Black and hesitated,

"They chased me, and later I jumped from the car to escape…

I was preparing to hide away, had just packed my things, when I heard noises in the house. Armed with a gun, I went to check, and then I was attacked by a black man wearing a mask, the same sadist who tortured me."

Petrov showed an angry expression, "That sadist thought I had killed Novina Jones, then began torturing me, asking questions about her.

His methods were ruthless; I couldn't hold on and told him everything.

But he still wouldn't let me go, leaving me crippled."

Luke knew he was hiding some details about the Furry Bear Gang, but according to the previous agreement, Luke didn't pursue it. "Did he have a gun?"

"I didn't see one."

"Then how did he attack you?"

"I was packing in the bedroom. When I heard the noise outside and realized the living room light was off, it was somewhat dim…

I took the gun to search the house and was near the sofa when he suddenly appeared from behind it and knocked me unconscious.

He was very swift and well-trained."
