Los Angeles Legendary Sleuth

Chapter 306 Catching Soft-Shelled Turtles_2

A few moments later, the door opened, and a blonde Caucasian woman stood at the doorway, tall and wearing casual loungewear.

"May I call you Jenny?"

"Of course, although it's our first meeting, I have seen many reports about you, you are an amazing woman."

"Thank you, I'm also pleased to meet you. Can you tell me about any recent plans for the community?"

"Could you step out a bit? I'm not used to talking to people through a door."

"Sorry, that was my oversight," Muriel Baldini stepped outside.

Jenny sized her up and found nothing unusual, "Is there anyone else in your house?"

"No, why do you ask?"

"I apologize, Mrs. Baldini, but I lied just now."

"What do you mean?"

"I am not a community relations committee member." Jenny flashed her badge, "I am a Los Angeles police officer."

"Police?

What happened? Why did you pretend to be a community relations committee member and come to my house?"

"It's a bit complicated, I'll make a long story short.

We're investigating a group of robbers with prior convictions. In the dashcam video of one of the robbers, we found that they have been following you recently.

We suspect you might be the robbers' next target, so I came to ensure your safety."

"You're saying someone wants to kidnap me."

"Yes. Have you noticed any suspicious people recently?"

"No, I rarely pay attention to such matters, our community has always been very safe, oh my God, this is terrifying.

What should I do? Will the police protect me?"

"Don't be nervous, this is just police speculation, the robbers might not necessarily make a move.

Besides, the police will protect you covertly, and we hope you will also be more vigilant."

"You're right, I have indeed been negligent in this respect before, I will be careful."

"But don't act too out of the ordinary, if the robbers see through it, they might become alert."

"I understand, thank you so much.

Where are your people? I'd like to pour some coffee for you."

"Thank you for your kindness, but the robbers might be watching secretly, too; my colleagues will protect you better from the shadows."

"OK, once the robbers are caught, I will definitely go to the police station to thank you personally."

"Make sure to lock your doors and windows, here is my business card, call me anytime there's an issue." Jenny handed over a business card and then left the house.

"Thank you." Muriel Baldini called out after Jenny's departing figure, then turned and went back inside the house.

...

Jenny returned to her car, and Little Black asked, "How was your chat with your idol?"

"She's impressive and has a strong personality, which I respect, but she's not quite my idol, at least not for now." After speaking, Jenny said to Luke beside her,

"Captain, I've talked to Muriel Baldini. She hasn't noticed any suspicious individuals. I reminded her to be cautious and informed her that the police would protect her covertly."

Luke nodded, "Even though everything seems normal at Muriel Baldini's home for now, we can't let our guard down. I suspect the robbers might act at any time.

They could also be observing Ms. Baldini's home from the shadows."

Jenny inquired, "Captain, what's our next step?"

Luke had a feeling that if the robbers were going to act, they wouldn't wait too long, "Everybody work hard tonight and take turns keeping watch.

The three of us will watch the front entrance of the villa while Raymond and Jackson cover the back entry."

Afterward, Luke started the car and parked the Mercedes a little farther away.

Jackson parked the BMW behind the villa.

If the robbers made a move, the police would be able to detect it in advance and carry out the arrest.

Standing watch at night is a grueling task, Luke took the first half of the night, followed by Jenny, and finally Little Black.

Relatively speaking, Luke had the easier shift since he was the captain and needed to maintain good mental condition to command the operation effectively.

There were no abnormalities in the first half of the night.

In the latter half of the night, it was Luke's turn to rest, but he slept lightly, ready to respond immediately if a situation arose.

However, the anticipated incident did not occur, the robbers did not act.

At seven in the morning, Luke yawned, judging from his experience, the likelihood of the robbers acting during the day was not high.

Muriel Baldini was a professional woman; if she was abducted during this time, it would be quickly noticed as unusual, whereas acting at night provided a longer timeframe to operate.

Jenny called Muriel Baldini, and everything was normal; she was also planning to go to work as usual.

Luke began to redeploy the team.

He had initially thought that the robbers were likely to act last night, but since they didn't, Luke couldn't just wait indefinitely. If the robbers changed their target or simply fled, he would be caught off guard.

Luke sent Raymond and Jackson to retrieve community road surveillance data to check for suspicious vehicles within the community.

Luke, Little Black, and Jenny were responsible for escorting Muriel Baldini to her company.

Chen Kelin brought the second team for support; they were responsible for continuing surveillance at Muriel Baldini's residence to prevent robbers from sneaking in during the day.

At nine o'clock in the morning, Muriel Baldini drove a Maserati away from home.

Luke followed in his car.

Little Black shook his head and remarked, "Indeed, every rich person is a liar. She even has a Maserati in her garage, and yet she dares to speak about environmental protection."
