Chapter 668: Changing Back_3

Yeah.

Ash's experiences in the Blood Moon and Gospel were no safer than those in Senluo, and were even more brutal and bloody—At least in Senluo, Ash was a Holy Sanctuary Mage, but in the Blood Moon, he was a death row prisoner, and in the Gospel, he was a slave.

He had plenty of reasons to change in the past; if he were to change, he would have done so long ago.

But just as he held back the fallen Sword Maiden and protected the insane Witch, the Sword Maiden and Witch also pulled him back from the edge of the Abyss.

Their relationship of mutual redemption was already solidified, leaving no room for anyone else to intervene.

She actually thought she could take Ash away from them...

Suddenly, Weiser saw the Sword Maiden beckoning to her. When she walked over, the Sword Maiden tightly held her hand, as if trying to demonstrate their unity.

Your hand, just now, touched Ash's face...

Just as Weiser was slightly distracted, she noticed the Sword Maiden writing a word on her palm.

It was the word "danger".

Weiser looked toward Ash, who, in great pain, rested his head on the Sword Maiden's chest and gestured with his eyes.

The Nightmare Inheritance poses great danger.

Although Ash had left the long-lost Observer State, the thoughts from that state had not dissipated. He suddenly realized a problem—the Nightmare Angel is an Evil Mage!

Look at the other two Evil Mages, the King of Time and the Ghost Prophet. Although the former opened the Eternal City and did not ban Technique Spirit and Magic Power, a new rule was added: Mages inside the Eternal City cannot destroy Technique Spirits and cannot leave the Void Realm.

In simple terms, even if a mage gains the Time Heritage, they must leave the Eternal City the same way to return to reality. If they die in the process, their belongings drop at a 100% rate, and they can't destroy their Technique Spirits to prevent benefiting the enemy!

It is imaginable how severe the mutual killing in the Eternal City is, not to mention that the challenges in the Eternal City are inherently difficult. It is conservatively estimated that nearly ten thousand Two-winged Mages have died in the Eternal City in the past month!

And this is exactly what the King of Time wants—he's not a real-world being but an ancient Elf who hates mages. Although it's unclear why he left behind a heritage, he absolutely hopes for serious casualties among real-world mages!

As for the Ghost Prophet, his intentions are even more blatant. He pretends to offer something like the 'Ghost Key' as an exit tool, but once a mage boldly attempts to progress, they encounter deadly traps like 'Dream Bound' and 'Return to Childhood', from which escape is impossible!

The Ghost Prophet is aware that Holy Sanctuary Mages are cunning, so he offers bait upfront to lure them further in, only to lead the younger mages to gruesome deaths.

This is a very normal line of thinking: they're Evil Mages who originally sought personal gain. If they weren't nearing their end without an heir, why would they leave any heritage? Even so, they won't let successors have it easy and are likely to devise deadly traps for their inheritors.

The rationale requires only three words: Why should it be?

Why should I die, while you gain all my life's legacy?

Yes, I have to leave it behind, but how can I vent my resentment without ensuring you suffer thoroughly?

In comparison, the Nightmare Inheritance seems astonishingly lenient!

There are no tests; getting there means gaining, even extending Divine Being and Heavenly Kingdom, though severe for outsiders, from the Nightmare Angel, one cannot demand too much.

But just when Ash thought the Nightmare Angel might have had a change of heart before dying, the Nightmare's actions just now shattered his delusion.

Setting torment keywords, consuming their souls to sustain the Truth Mage—these actions prove that the Nightmare Angel remained rotten before dying, hating to see younger mages fare well, quick to torture and kill them!

If the Nightmare Angel were benevolent, even if Diya misspoke, a warning would suffice; why would it resort to immediate torment? If the Nightmare Angel retained the gentle nature of an Evil Mage, he could have taken someone from the Ghost Inheritance to act as their soul fuel; how could they directly treat them as consumables?

Most importantly, the Nightmare has never treated them as heirs, only viewing them as 'Truth Mage and consumption tools', providing no tangible benefit!

Given that the Nightmare Angel is bad, yet so generously offers the inheritance, it only proves one thing—the inheritance carries an Enchantment.

At the very least, they are definitely not the true beneficiaries of the Nightmare Inheritance!

Only with this understanding can we explain the Nightmare Angel's generosity and brutality—for Tool Men, of course, the tools are given generously, and brutality is used to drive them!

If they genuinely create a god obediently, at best, they will be toiling for nothing, at worst, they will be eradicated by the Nightmare!

But Ash couldn't say it directly; the Nightmare Angel likely set related keywords, and once triggered, the Nightmare would surely destroy them.

Weiser pondered for a moment, glanced at Ash's hand resting on the Sword Maiden's thigh but ultimately wrote a few words in the Sword Maiden's palm.

Sonia was somewhat puzzled, but conveyed it to Ash anyway.

Ash frowned slightly but soon relaxed, reaching out to Weiser.

The two clasped hands tightly, with Sonia sitting in the middle, placing her hand on theirs. Diya found it amusing and joined in.

Moments later, the Nightmare suddenly said, "Five minutes is up, back to work."

Sonia looked down at Ash in her arms, the ruby eyes filled with inquiry—Kid, what's wrong? Haven't you been pain-free for five minutes?

Ash, however, shamelessly hugged her and took a deep breath on her neck.

This was the first time he acted so intimately in front of everyone, the awkward Sword Saint slightly blushed but returned the hug. However, seeing Ash also embraced the Witch, the glow on the Village Girl's face quickly faded.

But at this moment, the golden hall suddenly shook.

Everyone looked up at the ceiling, their expressions changed dramatically. The Nightmare, unemotional, simply urged again, "Begin working."

Outside, a rested Igula returned to the Distant Realm.

He looked at the dense black dots gathered around the golden bubble with a grave expression:

"Could only delay until now..."
