Otherworldly Trials [LITRPG Adventure]

Vol 4 Ch 13: Massive gains

"Good to see that there weren't any issues in me living here."

Cerulean said with a happy grin, already packed up and arrived in just a single day after making her decision to live here.

Only a day passed, and they already found the daughter of the Lord of Arcelot, a Master Mage that has lived decades fighting monsters far beyond their levels, completely dressed in simple clothing of a blouse shirt and loose-fitting pants with hiking boots ready to make a living here.

Even worse than that, her sense of style was not only decent, it accentuated her now suddenly normal appearance that still carried her otherworldly beauty, but nothing compared to being in the presence of a Master. If Zeke were to be told that this wasn't really Cerulean, he would actually believe them were it not for the slight crimson hair that reminded her so much of her mother, Cronus' wife Isabelle.

The otherworlder journeymen were, of course, the ones to greet her first. The lower-level otherworlders were at the housing, getting through their training regimen as promised, but that didn't mean neither of them were looking forward to having a new resident living here. Lyle kept looking at her as though he was staring at a new creature, looking left and right before eventually asking the real question.

"M-Miss Cerulean–"

"Oh, just Ceru is fine with me," Cerulean, or Ceru in this case, waved her hand with a grin. "I don't like using my full name for folks I meet most of the time. Only my Dad calls me by my full name just to look presentable."

"Oh, Ceru then," Lyly quickly adjusted, honestly impressing Zeke as he continued. "I can't help but notice how… normal you look. I mean, no offense, but I swear I can actually mistake you for someone that's less than a Journeyman."

It was a very good question, something that apparently Ceru beamed at as she explained.

"Let me tell you something interesting. Have you tried toning down your auras? Just stamping down on your magical, kinetic, and even life energy?" When Ceru received nothing but shaking heads, she continued. "It's like trying to hold your breath in some cases. Except it's straight in your soul. It can be pretty painful, and can actually damage you if you do it wrong. But with enough practice, you too can live among the masses without anyone busting your balls over why someone so high-level is among you."

"Is that usually bad?" Mikella asked. "We lived somewhere where Journeyman aren't common, but we didn't get in any trouble or anything. Actually, we got praised for it."

"Those are usually normal. But there are some towns and villages across the continent that just despise people who leveled higher than Expert. They considered those people almost god-like, and having them around would bring nothing but trouble for them. After all, all they did to level up was kill monsters. What good are they to a simple village trying to make do? Crafters are fine, but anything higher than Journeymen just makes people nervous."

Zeke understood that logic. Sure, it sounded like the opposite of elitism, also known as populism, but he can't blame people for getting nervous around others who had enough power to kill you with a single finger. Hell, he can definitely see his own world having that same mindset in some places.

"So that's why you look like… this?" Janet said before quickly raising her hands. "I mean, you still look beautiful! You just look… lesser than what you normally do."

"Aww, thank you!" Ceru took the words in like a sponge with a big smile. "And that's why I look like this. I can't have otherworlders fear me when I'm just trying to learn from them."

"You're actually serious about this, aren't you?" Mikella asked with crossed arms. "You seriously want to live here and learn from us?"

"Of course, I fully intend to provide for myself. And you don't have to worry about feeding me. I may look like this but I don't have to eat anything at all as long as there's a healthy amount of energy around here. And if you want me to pay up, I can do that."

"Please, don't do that," Zeke raised his hands. He already feels weird enough as it is having a Master live here. Having her pay rent would sound nice in theory, but that sounded like a ticket for bad headaches later. "Just the original promise is good enough. And, well, we don't want you to alienate yourself either. You can join us to eat because, well…"

"We're social butterflies," Lyle answered easily. "And I'm pretty sure the otherworlders want to know more about you than you do about them. If you don't mind getting crowded by them constantly asking questions, you're alright in our book."

"Obviously, that also goes to avoid hurting anyone here," Mikella said. "I know this is ridiculous, but this needs to be said. We will not accept our otherworlders getting harmed in any way. That also goes with messing with them mentally and stuff like that. I don't know what kind of skills you got, but please be careful."

"You have my word and my core that I will not do anything to harm the otherworlders," Ceru said, and the sound of the system accepting her oath filled the air around them which got Mikella to nod. "I know where my limits are, you got my word. Now–where am I living?"

Just like that, the Journeymen introduced the Master to the housing the otherworlders are living in, and introduced everyone to Ceru. Despite the situation, the otherworlders don't even appear nervous or hesitant. They were, of course, careful in greeting her, but her appearance was already enough to settle them down and ease them to her presence.

While all of that was happening, Zeke and Mikella watched the scene, Cerulean getting along and even speaking animatedly with the otherworlders, with a strange feeling formulating in their guts.

"Is this the right thing to do?" Zeke asked, not even assured of what to do now.

"I mean… it doesn't look like things are about to explode in our faces," Mikella said honestly, shrugging. "Plus, having a Master around us at all times doesn't sound like a bad deal. Also, she's kinda cool, y'know?"

"Yeah, pretty cool," Zeke admitted.

"Are you still angry at her breaking your simulation room thing?" Mikella asked.

"No, I'm fine," Zeke shook his head. "And Tir is fine too. It's just that everything is happening all at once, and I'm still trying to wrap my head around it. With Tir it got easier, but at the same time, it still feels like it's happening too fast."

"True…"

Mikella said, noticing Cerulean already making jokes and getting the otherworlders to laugh in a jovial mood. She was dangerously too sociable with the masses to be normal.

"Zeke! I got some news to tell you!"

Zeke flinched when Tir's appearance showed up at the corner of his vision, immediately shouting at him for his attention. Mikella noticed, looking worried before he calmed her down saying that it was Tir.

"What's up? Is everything alright? Are you okay?"

"Oh, I'm fine. Sorry about that. I guess I should put on an alarm or something when I want to talk to you out of nowhere?"

"Maybe not an alarm…" Zeke somehow recalled hearing an annoying bell ringing in his ears. "Something soothing and very low just to make me notice you? But please, no bells."

"Right-o!" Tir answered with glee. "I just wanted to tell you that I finally got enough understanding to get some level ups coming in. I just wanted to let you know before they all appear out of nowhere. Oh, do you want me to use the new alarm for it now?"

"The what?"

"Actually it's probably better for me to just do it now. Coming in hot!"

Before Tir could explain any further, a notification dropped in front of him, surprising him at the contents on it.

Buffering. Please wait.

"Zeke, what's up?" Mikella noticed his confusion, and he pointed at the notification in front of him.

This story originates from a different website. Ensure the author gets the support they deserve by reading it there.

"I don't know. Tir was saying something about levels and now I got a notification saying that it's buffering."

"Buffering?" Mikella hunched her head back in shock. "That only happened when we tried checking our stat caps. What is Tir trying to send you?"

"I was about to ask when–"

Buffering complete.

His mind turned blank at the sudden increase of energy rising up within him. His mouth slacked as even Mikella felt the intensity, her eyes widening and even twisting over as though in pain.

Zeke went through the same process, except his head felt like it was about to break and his body was ready to blow up from the intensity behind the incoming influx of power.

And the extreme rise of notifications plaguing his vision.

He swore nothing but pure screeching static rang in his ears, his head unable to comprehend the massive number of notifications filling his vision telling him all of these incredible things.

Yet, all he could do is try to figure out whether he was dying from overdose. The system energy fueled him to the point where perhaps The World can't even reach. His muscles twitched and fumbled, and his body couldn't work properly thanks to the influx of energy fueling him straight into the veins, into the marrow of his own bones.

When he eventually slapped his face onto the magical construct of his emergency housing, all he could try to do is notice how everyone panicked when they saw him. Their eyes widened and even Ceru looked at him in alarm. Mikella was no better, though she had it better as she only knelt, holding her head with her hand.

It was so painful. Yet it was also addicting. It was pure agony and bliss, all colliding together into a frenzied storm of emotions swirling within his chest, deep inside of his core.

Darkness encroached his vision from the sides before eventually losing out to the pain and pleasure mixing together in his body, entering into a deep sleep.
