In less than ten minutes, the army had cleared up all the monsters around the library, and the portals had closed up.
Jake watched the whole thing from the hole in the wall. After all the monsters were dead, the people inside the library began rushing out.
Jake took that as his cue to leave as well. He walked out and followed the crowd, holding Ophelia and followed by Crypt.
"Hey you, stop," the man with the greatsword yelled and pointed in the direction of Jake. Everyone that was there began looking around, pointing at themselves to find out if they were the one.
Jake, on the other hand, kept walking. He didn't pay attention to what was happening.
"You, I said stop!" the man yelled and charged at Jake. He stretched his hand to grab Jake, but before he could, Crypt grabbed the man's hand. Using his momentum against him, he threw the man over his shoulder.
The man flipped through the air and landed on his foot and one knee. He skidded for a few meters, digging his fingers into the ground and forcing himself to a stop.
"You know you shouldn't try to touch people out of the blue, right?" Jake said.
"Hmmm," the man groaned. He looked at Crypt behind Jake and let out a small frown.
"You are quite strong, so why did you do nothing to help when the battle was happening? I saw you standing there doing nothing," the man said and got on his feet.
"Ummm, whatever I do with my time is my problem, so please get out of my way," Jake said.
"I hate people like you, filled with power yet act blind to the chaos around them," the man said.
"For someone that wears so much black, you sure are a shining knight, but that's none of my business, so please let me go," Jake said.
The man frowned as he heard what Jake had to say. He pulled out his sword and charged forward, planting his feet and slashing.
Crypt stepped forward and blocked the attack with only one hand. Boom. The ground beneath them cracked immediately. The shockwave sent some of the people around falling.
They got up and all ran away, giving them space. Crypt looked at the man. "Is this the strength you want to use to touch my master? Pathetic."
Crypt added more strength behind his spear and pushed the man back. The man was shocked by the strength that Jake had shown, but he wasn't going to allow it.
He attacked again. "Dark Wave," he called out as his sword came down. Crypt looked up and stabbed upward. "Raging Tornado," he said and thrust the spear upward. The tornado collided with the Dark Wave and threw the man back. He slammed into a building and broke through the wall.
Crypt pulled his arm back and, without hesitation, threw the spear. But a magical barrier blocked the spear. It cracked after the spear hit it, but it didn't get through and hit the man.
Crypt and Jake turned immediately when they saw that the spear was blocked. The female mage was the one that had blocked the spear.
She and the last lady looked at Jake and Crypt with eyes that said if they moved, it was going to be a full fight here.
Suddenly, all the knights around rushed and pointed their swords at Jake and Crypt.
"Stand down!" they yelled at Jake.
"Stand down? What did I do?" Jake asked. He held Ophelia's hand tighter to make sure that she didn't get pulled away or something.
"Stand down!" The man in black armor came out of the building and yelled. "This fight belongs to me."
He gripped his sword tighter and pointed it at Jake.
"Why the hell are you even fighting me?" Jake asked.
"Because you stood by and watched people get attacked!" the man roared and charged at Jake.
"Crypt, stop him, but don't harm him—yet," Jake said.
Crypt nodded and stretched out his hands. His spear appeared. "Raging Tornado," he roared and stabbed into the ground.
Booooooom.
The ground was ripped up. The blast pushed the man back again. When the smoke died down, Crypt was already behind him with the spear pointed at his back.
The knights immediately closed in when they saw this, but the man raised his hands. "Stand back," he said.
The man lowered his sword, meaning that he gave up. "You won for now, but it doesn't change the fact that you refused to help," the man said.
"Urghhhh, God, you are really a justice-stuck-up asshole. Even if I didn't want to be part of all this, I don't have a choice," Jake said and raised up his hand, showing his mark.
The moment they saw his marks, all the guards moved back, scared that something would happen.
"You... you are a Chosen?" the man asked.
"Yes, I am. And before you guys dragged your asses here, I was inside that library battling not only the monsters but other Chosen, so PLEASE, for all that is good, allow me to be," Jake said.
"You said you fought other Chosen. Where are they?" the man asked.
"Dead," Jake replied without hesitation.
"The monsters killed them?" the man asked.
"Are you dumb? I said I fought them and I killed them," Jake said and started walking away.
"You just killed them? They were human!" the man yelled.
"Yeah yeah, and I'm a Chosen. I don't have the luxury of being good when I have this mark," Jake said.
"Nothing is an excuse to kill people," the man responded.
Jake looked at the two ladies, as if looking for help. They looked away, not wanting to be part of their partner's delusions.
"Arghh," Jake turned to look at the man. "So what if the trial says to kill Chosen—what do I do then?" Jake asked.
The man opened his mouth to say something, but nothing came out. He opened it again, and again, but no words came out. He didn't know what to say.
"Exactly," Jake said and walked away.
Everyone watched him walk without saying anything. After all, who wanted to deal with a Chosen right now? They would probably kill them without batting an eye.
Jake walked through the streets, and after getting far away from the knights and their whole fight, he finally thought he could catch a breath.
But the trial had other plans, as right before his eyes, another portal formed—and this time, it wasn't a small portal. It stood at almost ten feet tall.
"Crap," Jake cursed. He had not seen what was coming, but he could already tell that it was bad.
"Something strong is coming. You should prepare yourself," Drake told Jake.
He immediately took a few steps back and waited to see what was coming.
Boom, boom...
Footsteps came from the other side of the portal, and finally, an eight-foot-tall Minotaur walked out. The moment Jake saw it, his eyes widened.
"You have to be kidding me," he muttered.
The Minotaur had a massive war axe in its hand. Immediately, it came out and locked eyes on Jake—it attacked, swinging down at full force.
Crypt immediately intercepted and blocked the attack.
"Master, move back," Crypt said.
Jake pulled on Ophelia, taking her far from the portal.
"A Minotaur... this was unexpected," he said. He looked at Ophelia to see if she was scared, but she wasn't.
'I'm not sure I can keep dragging her along. The trials are getting worse, but the moment I leave her somewhere, she might die if I'm not there. I can't take that risk.' He removed the thought of leaving her anywhere from his head and focused back on the fight happening.
Crypt was pushed back by the Minotaur. It swung at him again, but he leaped back and dodged the attack before pushing forward with a thrust. The Minotaur parried the spear.
"Rooooooar!" it let out a roar and pushed Crypt back. It swung down at full force. Crypt leaped out of the way. The axe slammed into the ground.
Boom! It cut deep, debris flying in all directions. Crypt leaped into the air, flipped, and threw his spear.
"Raging Tornado," he called out. The spear spun like a vortex. The Minotaur blocked the spear; the force blasted it back, almost sending it through the portal, but it stopped itself and pushed forward, charging toward Crypt.
It lifted the axe and slashed down. Crypt parried the attacks and pushed forward again, but the Minotaur still managed to escape every attack.
The both of them were locked in this back-and-forth for a few seconds, until out of nowhere, a spear shot through the air.
"Raging Tornado!" Jake yelled as he threw the spear right for the head of the Minotaur from the top of a building.
He had climbed up a building and lined up the perfect shot, and when it was right, he attacked. The spear shot through the air, right for the Minotaur's head.
