IMMORTALITY STARTS WITH A GUN

3 ~ The Gun (3)

Liu Xing submerged himself in the river's cool embrace. As a cultivator with a superhuman physique, he could hold his breath for an extraordinary length of time. But he eventually resurfaces, breaking through the water to greet the moon hanging high in the dark sky. Moonlight bathed the world in silver, transforming the river into a ribbon of liquid jewels and diamonds.

Liu Xing slumped against a massive boulder. He closed his eyes, focusing on slowing his racing heart. Initially, he had tried to dismiss the vision as a vivid dream, but the gun he'd tucked it into his robe, made denial impossible. The gun is a gift. A gift from another world, delivered to him here, in this xianxia world.

What was happening to him? Liu Xing felt certain the scenes shown by Nui's fragments were glimpses into other realities. Nui, Joni, and Mamat were likely not engaged in those exact moments of combat or bizarre experiments. Yet, this logical deduction did little to settle the turmoil in his mind.

Encountering a familiar face after transmigrating to this world was beyond anything he could have imagined. He mentally replayed every detail. Nui's words, Mamat's defiant stance against the colossal snake and its swarms, Joni's detached observation of the purple creature, and the overwhelming sense of foreboding that clung to the message about a darkness spreading through every world.

Was this "darkness" a metaphor, a symbolic representation of some abstract evil, or was it something tangible, a person, a creature, an entity? And why would darkness spreading in this world amplify darkness in another?

Lost in thought, Liu Xing remained by the side of the river as the moon traced its arc across the night sky, and the first rays of the rising sun painted the horizon. Birds began their morning chorus, and fish stirred in the shallows of the river. More than ten hours slipped by unnoticed before a sense of resolve finally solidified within him. Nui's fragmented message, despite its cryptic nature, pointed clearly to one thing: he needed to confront the darkness in this world. Nui had subtly implied that Mamat, Joni, and perhaps even himself, needed help.

Did Liu Xing want to help his friends? The answer resonated instantly and powerfully within him. They were his friends, bound by a connection that transcended universes. He would help them. He had to.

He remembered Joni and Mamat's half-joking conversations about the isekai trope in anime and manga. Joni had declared, "If I get isekai'd, I'm grinding day and night to become the most powerful being in the world! Then, I'll build a harem! Cat girls, angels, busty receptionists, guild girls, sexy succubi you name it, I'll collect 'em all! Mamat, promise me you'll build a harem too!"

Mamat, had laughed off the harem idea, they all knew about his crush on a girl from another class.

"And you, Will?" Joni had turned to him. "What's your isekai ambition?"

"I'm not sure about a harem," Will had chuckled, "but I'd at least like to become a legend."

"Nice! Me too, me too!"

Recalling that lighthearted conversation filled Liu Xing with a surprising sense of purpose, as if a veil had been lifted from his eyes, granting him a clarity he hadn't realized he'd been missing.

"Right," he said aloud, the word echoing in the air. "I want to become a legend. And what better legend than the powerful cultivator who defeats the darkness threatening the entire world?"

Liu Xing stood and began to walk, his steps firm and purposeful. His path was now clear. He knew what he had to do.
